(S01E10) Ladies and gentleman, what happened at the very end of Monday's episode of Life is what we call in the television world a "major plot development." I'm sure the producers of Lost are jealous.
Seriously, for those of you who thought that we would never get to the bottom of the Conspiracy, the revelation (which I won't be revealing until after the jump) probably came as a bit of a relief. I feet the same way. And I'm not too worried that this plot point will end the entire Conspiracy back story. Just because Charlie discovered this one thing doesn't mean that the entire mystery of his murder conviction is solved.
I mean, all that happened here is Charlie found the person who allegedly murdered his friend and their family, and made an alleged connection between the murderer and Jack Reese. But, just because he confronts the murderer in the next episode (which airs on Wednesday) doesn't mean all of the puzzle pieces will fall into place. The producers and the writers of Life seem like a pretty astute bunch of people, and I don't believe that they will close the Conspiracy up with the next installment. That would take some of the fun out of the show.
Although, from the way that Jack Reese is acting, he sure as hell looks like he is behind the whole Conspiracy. First, he was shown arguing with Ames before the retired detective's death, then he confronted Charlie about his Rachel Seybolt evidence. Now, he has practically threatened Lt. Davis after he found out that Charlie was removed as a suspect from Ames' murder. I take back what I said about Reese last week: Jack is one mean sumbitch.
Let's step away from the Conspiracy now (since I'm sure we'll be talking about it in detail after Wednesday's episode) and talk about this week's mystery. I'm sorry, but when I saw the skeleton of the murder victim embedded in the soil, a dead rose in his hands, my first reaction was 'Why isn't Temperance 'Bones' Brennan' out here investigating this?' This would have been a perfect assignment for her and the Squints at the Jeffersonian. Nevertheless, Tempy never showed up and it was up to Crews and Reese to solve the mystery of who killed this Zen master.
Charlie was in his element here as he encountered a number of suspects who knew about 'The Way'. His best encounter was with a physics professor who was a student of the Zen master. The man went on and on about how we are always moving, how objects that are there are not there. For the rest of the episode Charlie was looking around and saying that things were not there, including a white horse he bought for his wife to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary.
This brings me to the point that this was a pretty funny episode of Life (except for the end, that is). There were a number of moments when I actually laughed out loud at what Charlie or Reese said. One of those moments came when the detectives were at the home of two former geeks-turned-internet-successes. Their young wives asked if Charlie would like a beer and he responded something like he was on duty and his partner was a recovering alcoholic. Just the way he said it and Dani's reaction got a snort or two out of me.
Other moments that made me smile were the interrogation of the geeks, where Charlie went 'I don't know what pandering is, but it goes right with pimping', the purchase of a white horse for his wife, said horse ending up in Charlie's living room, the conversations between Crews and Reese on what he wanted to come back as when he was reincarnated, and his three-way meeting between him, Constance and Reese. That was an interesting scene because these are the only two women who are part of his life right now. And, from the way Crews was looking at Constance, it seems like his feelings for Constance may be changing.
After a long period of time, Ted is finally being utilized. I guess it took clearing off Charlie's Conspiracy Wall during the IAD investigation to get him involved. And, while he is still a bit of a milquetoast, you can see his inner strength coming to the surface. That was evident in his conversation with Charlie up on a roof overlooking the Bank of Los Angeles. During that talk he asked Charlie if he was Robin to Crews' Batman. With Charlie responding with a 'no' it was established that he and Charlie have an equal relationship.
On Wednesday's episode -- Crews confronts the murderer of the Seybolt family.

Does anyone know the music to this episode on Dec 3? I am interested in the first song, by a woman. Sounds like Fiest. What can anyone share? THanks, love this show

Why do I think the mother of the little boy looks so familiar? I feel like I've seen her somewhere before, but not from anything recent. What else has she been in?
I also agree about the lab tech, have we seen her before?

Another great episode. Maybe the should follow it after Heroes all the time. The father of the kid was the chief of staff on 24. Yes the mother does look familiar. I see the conspiracy stretching into next season. There will be more players than just Jack Reese. Ahhh i just love this show.

How did they find out he was the killer again? I am going to have to rewatch that portion of the episode, but I remember the key piece of evidence being really stupid. Somebody jog my memory.

That's it! Oh my god, that is the best they could come up with!!! I mean, the picture didn't even look that much like the guy's photo. What were they thinking!! I really like this show, and think it is probably one of the top 2 new shows this season, but that was an incredibly stupid move.

The mother of boy was in "The Majestic" as I recall, although you might also know her from "The Lst Skeleton of Cadavra," if you've seen that.

I loved how Charlie didn't say anything in the elevator when the redhead kissed him.
I know that I would've totally had said something and completely ruined it! Nice to know I learned a valuable lesson from TV last night: never say anything when a cute redhead stops an elevator to kiss me.

I was thinking the same thing about Bones :). This show is, in my opinion, doing an excellent job of mystery versus answers. I think everyone has learned from Lost, so they don't lose their viewers.

I... Love... This... Show...
At first I really thought the characters were kinda forced, but now they all seem so well done. I think the turning point for me was getting Charlie out of the Bentley and into the Grand National. I hope that's not the car he's driving in the car wreck we saw in the previews...

yes, the Redhead in the elevator was my favorite part of the episode. I think that Crews needs a more serious love interest before the eventual pairing with Constance or his partner, and I'm all for redheads!

Crews didn't state that Dani was an alcoholic or even insinuate it was her--he stated that one of them was a recovering addict and didn't even look her way as to put the onus on him. That's what Crews is all about.
I have never been this excited for a show (other than after watching the plot for Studio 60) and it delivers every episode. I'm glad they never make the cases too convoluted or complicated just to spice up the plots--that's what Crews' conspiracy is for.
I'm on pins and needles until Wed. night.

I still think Jack Reese will turn out to be a good guy, protecting some secret for the greater good. By trying to keep the attention on Crews as a suspect, knowing he had nothing to do with it, and thus knowing nothing will stick, he furthers his goal of diversion.

Hopefully they will make Crews come up with some key piece of reasonable evidence to tie the guy to the murders tomorrow, as the child's scrawl really doesn't do it for me.

I always find Crews and Dani and their whole thing funny. I love that the wall of conspiracy became the table of conspiracy.
I love this show, but I have given up on the cases, because I never know why the killer killed the killee. (Let's review: last eppy and this one). What I do love, is the quirky journey to the point of catching said killer.

This is probably just me, but for the first time, I got the distinct feeling that Ted is in on the conspiracy. I just didn't like how he kept jabbering on while Charlie was looking up such a vital piece of info. I felt like he was intentionally trying to distract Charlie to keep him from doing the search.
I don't think Charlie's feelings for Constance have changed. I think he's always had feelings for her. It's just that after his marriage fell apart, he respects the commitment and loyalty involved in a marriage. I think she will probably leave her husband. And since she is no longer his attorney, that leaves them free to date - unless he becomes a suspect again. But I don't see them getting together for a while.
I think it is hysterical 1) how women throw themselves at Charlie - you know they wouldn't do that if he was an ex-con cop who wasn't rich and 2) that Charlie knows how to work that to his advantage. He flirted with that redhead just to work her as a source for confidential files. She fell for it hook, line and sinker.
