First Buffy, then Scrubs, eventually Ugly Betty and maybe House? TV Guide reports that the cast of FOX's House would like to do a musical episode. Jennifer Morrison, who plays Allison Cameron, claims that since most of the actors on the show have some sort of musical background, they have been poking the writers to have the doctors break into song! Here is a small glimpse at the cast's musical experience:
- Lisa Edelstein authored, composed and performed in the AIDS-related musical Positive Me.
- Omar Epps was a member of a rap group called Wolfpak and was a back-up dancer for Queen Latifah.
- Hugh Laurie performs as part of Band on TV, he plays piano and appeared in Spice World.
- Jennifer Morrison did musical theater, played clarinet in her high school's marching and symphonic bands and sang in the choir.
- Robert Sean Leonard performed on Broadway.
- Jesse Spenser performs as part of Band on TV, sang a song on the Uptown Girls' soundtrack, was in an Australian boys choir and plays violin, guitar, bass and the piano.

This growing trend just goes to prove that Cop Rock was way ahead of its time.

The problem is, the most believable way for them to do it is to make a patient hear music. Except Scrubs did that for THEIR musical ep. (which turned out to be an aneurysm. Why it took them half the episode to put someone in a CT scanner is beyond me...)

In any HOUSE episode, the patient has to be almost killed and have two seizures before the CT scanner is fired up...

whilst Hugh Laurie is an extremely talented Individual, He can play the piano, started his career won the Cambridge footlights etc etc. This Is the worst idea since Abraham Lincoln said " Im tired of staying in all the time why dont we go take in a show tonight"

Didn't Laurie sing in his British show? At least one of the clips I saw him in from those days had him singing.
This is such a fantastic idea. Maybe they can have Joss Whedon come in as a guest director to lend him expertise. This show is already so ludicrous, don't tell me that it will hurt their believability if they suddenly break out in song for 60 minutes.

It's really not like Shrubs or Buffy or Drew Carey, and it won't fit.
But why not? Might as well try. :)

Uhm, you do know what everybody was saying about the idea of a Buffy musical episode before it happened? There was widespread fear that it didn't work well and that it didn't fit the tone of Buffy at all (In the long run, Buffy was probably a more believable show by the end of its run, as its characters grew and changed, which doesn't seem to happen on House, other than Cameron). Most of the actors couldn't even sing that well, unlike House. But it worked out fantastically. I don't see any reason why it couldn't be done equally well, at least, on House.

I'm on board. If you think about it, the series has always had a musical quality to it. Edmund White wrote: "Like fiction, music is always promising an imminent conclusion and then introducing complications." Is this not a perfect description of House?

Just an FYI: I believe the actress who plays Dr. Cuddy is named Lisa Edelstein, not Linda Edelstein

Yes, please.
While I think it might not work, being a fan of the show, I would like to see how they do it.

I think they should do it, but don't give House any singing moments. A singing House is not a cranky House, so while everyone else is going crazy around him, he's the only one too focused on the case to sing, of course with Laurie's background its doubtful he wouldn't sing on a musical episode, but its not honest with the character.

Songs don't have to be cheery and delightful, he could be dour and depressed in song just as well in blank prose.

This is the most stupid idea I have ever heard. Musicals in general annoy me, and for a dramatic show to decide to be one for a bit gives me more than enough motivation to change the channel. Whenever "The Simpsons" or "Family Guy" does musical episodes, I do the same thing. Ack.
