From 1996-2000, NBC had a modest hit on their hand with The Pretender, a show in which main character Jarod used his abilities to assume other people's identities to help those in need. Kind of a Quantum Leap with identity theft instead of bodysnatching. Creators Steven Long Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle, also of Tin Man, reportedly told SCI FI Wire they'd like to bring back the show in the digital medium. The relaunch, or continuation, could even feature original star Michael T. Weiss in the title role again.
They've reportedly brunched Weiss and begun laying the groundwork for the project, so it seems it's a done deal, just what exactly it means and when and where we'll be able to see it remains unclear.
I wasn't able to find anything more about it on the web in the myriad press junkets the duo have been doing for Tin Man, but maybe it's already begun. Maybe one or both of them have already been replaced by Jarod, or maybe he's replaced a certain sub sandwich spokesman and that's the new digital platform. He'll infiltrate commercials and we'll watch him between other shows; I bet the advertisers would be on board for that one.

Considering that they never finished the story I think they should just make a TV movie and end it. The last movie was horrible and Jarod became Jesus Christ or something. Just end the story!

As much as I liked the show Oreo is correct. That last movie was an abomination.

I already forgot everything that happened though. Did we ever find out if Jarod and Miss Parker were brother and sister?

I would hope that they pretend (*snort*) that the second movie never happened, what a piece of crap. Either way though I'm excited about the prospect of this show returning.

I'm going to agree with everybody. The second movie was barely related to anything that happened prior. Aside from the characters being the same, it was out of left field and just asinine. But I would still like to see more. (And include the cute redhead near the end of the series that Jarrod liked.)

Michael is fu**ing awesome and The Pretender universe is still one of the most interesting in TV history. The first TV movie sucked, the second was better. But we have had enough TV movies - we need the show back. Online, on TV, whatever - just bring it back :)

They would have to be crazy to not include the original cast! The show wouldn't be the same. All the same it is exciting to know that something is coming....I just wish they would hurry and give us more information!

I would love to see closure in one form or another to this amazing series. However, I too agree that the original cast would have to be included for me to be interested, not just Michael. I invested emotionally in all of the characters over the years, not just Jarod. Miss Parker was always my favorite character. I would also hope that what ever form they decide to go with to add to the series, that it would also be released on DVD to add to our collections for repeated viewing.
Though the 2nd movie did go off in a different direction than I was expecting, I don't see where it can be ignored at this point. I'd like to see Jarod and Miss Parker finally get together. And you can call me crazy, but I'd like to know what on earth they had planned in those scrolls...

Is it only Michael T Weiss on board? If it didn't include Andrea Parker and some of the other main characters Don't think I'd be interested. After all how could it be a continuation of anything without the rest. Michael may have been "The Pretender" however he was not the show all by himself.

The Pretender was a wonderfully creative and well-executed TV show. Along with others, I wish we'd get some current info regarding the status of this much overdue project. There are so many story lines left unfinished that await closure. While MTW is essential as Jarod, I also fear that without the same lead actors, it would be a disaster. Who could imagine anyone other than James Denton, let alone, Andrea Parker in their respective roles. Here's to a timely and successful continuation. : )
