A roundup of TV people from in front of the camera and behind the scenes who have passed away.
- Evel Knievel: He was the most famous motorcycle stunt artist, and he seemed to be on ABC's Wide World of Sports every other week in the 70s. His most famous jumps were his Caesar's Palace jump and his Snake River Canyon jump in a rocket. Though he made more than he missed. He died of complications from diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis at age 69. Oddly, just two days ago he settled a lawsuit with Kanye West.
- Mel Tolkin: He was best known as the head writer for the classic Sid Caesar variety show Your Show of Shows in the 50s. He also wrote for All in the Family, The Danny Kaye Show, Sanford, and was a producer on the Tony Randall comedy Love, Sidney. He also wrote material for Jerry Lewis, Danny Thomas, and Bob Hope. He died of heart failure in L.A. at age 94.
- Pauline Mercer: She started as a volunteer at Boston's WGBH in 1955 and then worked there full-time for the next 38 years. She worked on Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery! and was a producer for Elliot Norton Reviews. She died in Massachusetts at age 89.

If you were a young kid in the 70s like I was, you would know just how huge Evel Knievel was. And you know what, he deserved every bit of it.

I am a big fan of Evel Knievel, when I saw his death at: http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,,2220208,00.html , I was very sorrowful. What a pioneer! He was the best, I remember him fondly, he tried to jump the grand canyon and had to settle for the snake river. Truly a great showman. To a bunch of kids growing up back then, he rocked! I still enjoy watching the Knievel jumps on DVD (with that heavy bike he used) more than the X-games jumpers with all their sophisticated gear. One DVD---Absolute Evel, I like best. I found it with a good price here: http://dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=71333 , In my opinion this is a great record if you love Evel Knievel.
