Good news for Doctor Who fans, in particular fans of actress Billie Piper, who played the part of Rose Tyler from the show's return in March 2005 until July 2006.The British actress will be returning in no fewer than three episodes in the forthcoming series -- set to air in 2008 -- giving the Doctor three companions over the course of series four.
Piper's character was stranded in an alternative universe (forever, it seemed) at the end of season 2, but she will now return for a three-part story arc -- and with a bit of luck, we'll see her team up with Martha Jones to vie for the Doctor's affections.
Before that happens, Doctor Who is set to return to our screens on 25 December in a Christmas special entitled 'Voyage of the Damned' -- so stay tuned to TV Squad for a review.

I thought next Dr Who series would not air before 2009, due to David Tennant playing I don't remember which Shakespearian hero?

On one hand I am thrilled for this. I love Rose and can't wait to see her interact with her two "replacements." However, I feel bringing her back cheapens the sacrifice that had to be made at the end of Series 2.

I wonder if this will affect her role in Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

*nods to gwangi* Series 4, airing in 2008, is normal. Then in 2009, there'll be 3 or so specials filmed around David's schedule in Hamlet. Then in 2010, Series 5 will air, and will be normal length once again.
According to the BBC's site (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/) it looks like "Voyage of the Damned" will actually air this Saturday, rather than 25 December.

Good news. Shows have brought back a lot less interesting characters than her. Solid player too.
Will be fun if she works with the other fems. Can only hope they don't fade her yet again. That would tip it for me long term.
Later shows did have some good themes.

To the person that wrote the original story.. If you read bbc news and keep up with things, when Martha returns, she won't be interested in the Doctor anymore. They're changing the character dynamic. It won't be a competition for affections AT ALL. Fortunately. That stuff has gotten old. I was glad when they announced that when Martha returns to Dr Who from her stint on Torchwood that she will have lost the puppy dog affection stuff.

As for "airing this Saturday"...
Read closer. It says "ADVENT" on Dec 1st. They did the same thing last year. They had little tidbits they showed on the site as a "countdown" of sorts to the Christmas episode.

What is with the love affair with the horrid Rose??? Kill her off already. Can the writers come up with nothing better than a tried retread?? She left the show - why let her come back?
So, WTF was the point of stranding her where they could never meet again, and then bringing her back?

Thanks gwangi & jun, I must have misread an article some months ago.
Anyway, I love Billie Piper character, and can't wait to see her back on the show for a couple episodes.

OH MY F-ING GOD!!!!! You have NO CLUE how happy this makes me!!!!! OMG! When I first got into "Doctor Who" I thought that David Tennent and Billie Piper were THE perfect on-screen couple and their charecters were abso-fricking-lutly MENT to be together! When I found out what happened to Rose in "Doomsday" I literally cried!!! Now that she (Billie Piper) is coming back just makes me want to do my little happy dance! (YES! I am 17-years-old and I have a HAPPY DANCE!)
AND..............
In response to everyone who says that bringing Rose back after "Doomsday" will "cheapen" the ending of the episode..... I think your wrong. OR at least you could be. It really all depends on how the writers decide to do it. If the use some lame cop-out like "Oh yeah, well, there is this one thing that could be done, he just didn't think of it, and now, poof- she's back!" THAT would be lame. BUT if they used something like "Love brought them back together" that would be okay by me.
Another thing that you would have to take into consideration, the above article says that she "will be returning in no fewer than three episodes" means that she's not back permanently. Wouldn't The Doctor's losing Rose, finding a way to be with her again, and losing her once more be more heartbreaking than just losing her once?

Rose fans email me at flowersforthejudge@live.com to talk about how Rose should b reintroduced to Doctor Who. And if she doesn't stay full-time by the end of her appearances in Series Four, let us hope she isn't given a farewell like in Doomsday. If they bring her back now they should leave it open from now on. No more definitive ways to get rid of the companion or enemy like the Daleks, Cybermen and Master!!!

You know... it just says that she'll be back. It's possible that Jack, working for Torchwood (who will also be back, along with Sarah Jane), will be able to communicate with Rose in the Alternate Universe, but not physically travel. Another possibility is that Rose will be: an andoid, a replicant, an alien shapeshifer, a memory, from another point in the Doctor's life, brought into some sort of 'temporal purgitory'... the list goes on and on. I, for one, just hope it's not cheesy. I too hope it's not this "oh yeah, there's this one small crack..", and I also hope it's not something as lame as 'love' (I'm sorry, but I'm not a shipper and don't care about romance between The Doctor and his companion).

One scenario is that the Doctor and Donna met Rose of the past. This way, the real, present Rose is still in the parallel universe. What do you think?

Oh, PLEASE let her return for good. God, I cried at the end of Doomsday. Don't care if it cheapens the sacrifice - it's like she said - "Can't you come through properly?" "The whole thing would fracture. Two Universes would collapse." "So?"
