This news is sure to upset fans of the NBC show Journeyman: the show will probably end with the 12th episode.
And just so you know this isn't a guess, this word comes straight from Kevin Falls, creator of the show. He says that because of the show's so-so ratings, and the fact that it doesn't look like the writers strike is going to end anytime soon, that episode will probably be the last one for the series. If it's any consolation for fans, Falls says that the episode does work as sort of a series finale and does answer a lot of questions. Though I would guess that those answers won't be enough for hardcore fans. It also leaves an opening for a second sesaon if that were to occur.
The 12th episode will air either at the end of December or early January.

So is the 10 PM monday slot now officially where good shows go to die on NBC. Studio 60, Journeyman, and Friday Night Lights all have had similar numbers residing in that slot. Only FNL was immediately rushed back to its original night and survived the cursed time slot.
I suppose that one must give credit to that utter crapfest that is CSI: Miami. Nothing can sway the American Sheeple away from bad acting and terrible writing.

Firefly
Space, Above and Beyond
Journeyman
I am sorry folks, but as soon as I decide I like a show it gets cancelled:(
With all the total junk on TV decent stuff just does not ahve a chance these days. Star Trek would never have survived these days.

The scariest part is the comment from Gordy, about the "older cast"...the leads are in their late 30's, early 40's? Scary that that's considered an "older cast". Somehow television is selling the idea that people of every expertise at all stages of life can all be in their early 20's because that's what works for the demographics. I imagine a day when scripted TV will be like "Logan's Run"--hit 30, and you're gone. (Although "CSI" and "Law & Order" and all their variants seem to have casts at least this old, if not older).

It's brought up every time a great show is canceled or abandoned, but M*A*S*H would not have lasted in the current programming atmosphere. It took M*A*S*H three years to build an audience. It ended up being one of, if not THE, greatest shows on television. I don't think Journeyman is as good as M*A*S*H, but I wish it would be given more of a chance - even Arrested Development got 2.5 years.

gah! Everytime I like a new show that as quality this happens...
Maybe it's just me, but I love the tone and complexity of the show, and it seems like they just scratched the surface. (I mean, surely Dan has some other friends to showcase besides his brother and boss)

I want to vomit at the idea of putting this dreck in the same boat as Firefly.
I recap the show for Recapist.com and I wanted to like it, I really did. But it is dreck. Bad show = bad ratings = cancelled. Its the way the world should be. Hell, take comfort in the fact that if there was no WGA strike this would have been yanked in five episodes flat.

Scott: Too right you are about the older cast comment. It's disgusting to me to watch a twenty something actor cast in a role that clearly calls for a great deal more life experience. (Didn't Tara Reid play a "scientist" once?)
I really doubt the age of the actors is the reason the show is failing.

This is one of my favorite shows this season. I really hope that NBC decides to keep it on the air. Bionic Woman wishes it was half as good as Journeyman.

If the strike ends at a point where it's too late to set up a new fall line up the show will probably return, then be dumped once a replacement is found most likely but the writers could wrap it all up.

Why can't the networks learn that ratings nowadays mean absolutely nothing? It's all about internet communities now. Shows that have high ratings are usually watched by older people hence why they're not the the websites and forums commenting on an episode.
I don't even know WHY networks even try to have new shows on. They could have the same 'hit' shows every single night and win in the ratings. It's fucking pathetic. Stupid American sheep. All they want is insane reality shows and procedurals. It's getting quite annoying.
An advice for network excecs: STOP MAKING SERIAL SHOWS, THE STUPID AMERICAN PUBLIC OBVIOUSLY DON'T WANT THEM. THEY'RE NOT READY FOR CHANGE!
So like every year i'm going to watch all my new shows get cancelled one after another because they're not a CSI spinoff or a dancing/singing competition.

This is hardly a shock as others have commented, the ratings were abysmal (like NBC's other new shows) and the impending specter of the strike was likely what kept Journeyman, Bionic Woman and Life on as long as they have been. I will live with the sacrifice of Journeyman if Life can get a 2nd season.
Maybe we can have a finale where Dan goes back to Rome and retrieves Titus Pullo and Octavius and takes over San Francisco.

As a crew member of this excellent show and the previous Studio 60:On the Sunset Strip, I must get this off my chest. And this is a shout out to NBC programming. Stop investing millions to launch new shows and then cast them adrift into a sea of neglect. If we've learned anything from the failure of Studio 60, The Black Donnely's and now Journeyman, the 10pm Monday time slot is OWNED by CSI:Miami. Clearly this show draws viewers that were cultivated over time and are committed. This is a status to be earned, not stolen.
Last season, NBC put all their guns behind Studio 60, which was a budget-busting Sorkin-think-tank that was never going to appeal to the massive audience it needed to keep it afloat and the minute our numbers dropped they pulled the rug from under us. First, they laid off the location department, preventing us from shooting anywhere but the confines of the Warner lot, then, all but the barest promotions ended and the blogestphere smelled blood. Critics, many of whom had an ax to grind with Aaron, bashed it mercilessly until final it was pulled mid season and replaced with The Black Donnely's; which pulled worse numbers than S60. The Real Wedding Crashers did even worse. (no surprise) In the final blow, the network announced our cancellation, AFTER which they finally moved us to 9pm Wednsdays for the final six episodes. Go figure, we did better numbers than we ever did; further proof that the 10pm/Monday time slot is the kiss of death. Don't get me wrong, S60 had problems, none of which were bigger than the Sorkin-factor, but none of which could not have been worked out if the show was given some time to ferment. We live in this generation of Immediate Gratification Television Programming where if you don't hit out-of-the-gate, then your done.
Journeyman, unlike S60, just gets better with every episode, with rich characters, mounting story development and intriguing concepts. Critically acclaimed
with a strong committed fan base. Even the network likes the show. It all comes down to numbers;and as MosquitoControl72 aptly stated, "This is business." And so it is. If your business hits a bump in the road, do you just shut it it down and call it quits? Hell no, you identify the problem, reconfigure and hit hard again. At the very least, NBC should be promoting this show as "critically acclaimed" and rerunning episodes in different time slots
during the week. Also, since Journeyman is science fiction and NBC owns the SciFi Channel....Duh?
All I'm saying is this; if NBC, and the critics, and the people who watch the show love it; then the answer is NOT to cancel it, but to PUMP IT UP. Pull out all the stops. Get MORE people to watch it.
Come on NBC put some backbone behind your investments. Hard work and COMMITMENT is what the creators, actors and crew put into this show, they should be reward with a little faith and ingenuity of your own.

If NBC dumps Journeyman, they will be making a major mistake. I see Journeyman becoming a sensation once it's released on DVD, much like what happened with 24 a few years ago.

Adding on to my post above...
I just read a Mediaweek article about the fallout from NBC's poor November sweeps. The advertisers are blaming NBC for putting too many male-leaning new series this fall. They say NBC should have followed ABC's lead with their feminine-oriented shows. But guess who convinced NBC to pick up those male-leaning series last spring? That's right, the very same ad men. This is a terrible joke. Madison Avenue is dictating what gets on the air. They want to sponsor shows that fit into the demographic they believe at the time will benefit them the most financially. Even if the demographic they're aiming for isn't ultimately that rewarding.
I read another Mediaweek article on Madison Avenue's reaction to the WGA strike. Gee, what a surprise, they're asking the studios for their money back.
This tidbit was a real hoot: Fox thought they would be sitting pretty during a prolonged strike because they had American Idol and the "youthful" demographics that the advertisers wanted.
Wrong. Madison Avenue is displeased over Fox potentially not having fresh episodes of either House or 24 this winter-because both shows appeal to upscale viewers. American Idol gets the youth demo, but not the upper classes that certain companies peddle their wares to.
I don't think the strike's going to last much longer. And unfortunately, we'll have Madison Avenue to thank.

This truely is the time slot where good shows are put to die. Nothing will suceed here until CSI shows are not doing well.
Might as well just put on another hour of Deal or No Deal, and move the good shows to a better slot.

I am female and I love this show. Yes, I do watch the CSI shows, but only when there is nothing else on. I also enjoyed Drive before it was canceled. I have always liked time travel shows (Quantum Leap, Sliders, etc...) and adventure shows. It seems to me that some one needs to look into the ratings system. If that many people are upset about a show being canceled, the ratings system does not work.

I'm very sorry to hear that this series might not last. It was the only show I watched on Monday nights, so much so that I came to look forward to it ("oh crap, it's Monday, but Journeyman will be good to see"). This probably means we'll have either have another comedy with dim parents and genius kids or, wait for it, a cop/lawyer/doctor show. Mr. McKidd and cast - thanks for making late Monday nights fun. Hope to see you elsewhere.
