(S06E07) This is the last new episode of Family Guy to be aired until the strike ends, whenever that is. After Meg nearly dies during the flash flood, in a change of character, Peter becomes overprotective of Meg when she starts dating a medical intern. In a B plot, Brian and Stewie buy a dilapidated house as an investment in hopes of fixing it up.
The show began with a rainstorm and some Hurricane Katrina commentary (which admittedly isn't exactly a hot topic anymore), particularly with Cleveland being shoved into the sports stadium. I also like the continued Superman references. This week had Dean Cain wearing a shirt with the emblem.
I enjoyed the Alien reference, particularly when the alien had the voice of that stringy, hippie guy. Also the mice in the wall sounded like Mickey. Another highlight of the episode was the argument between Fred and Wilma Flintstone. I don't know if they got the same voice actor, but it sounded just like the original Fred.
One of my favorite lines of the episode was spoken by Stewie when he was mentioning the potential investors in his house, including a guy named Matt Goldman. "But what does he know? He's only Jewish." "Okay, I'm in." Another was Peter saying "My daughter's womb is not a wildfire for you to douse with your adolescent seed."
Which brings me to a question: isn't Meg a little young to date a medical intern? She's sixteen on the show and your average medical intern is in their early twenties. Isn't that illegal? It's particularly illegal if they had sex (which they must have if Meg thought she was pregnant). Also, why didn't they go to a gynecologist or any sort of doctor to make sure she was pregnant? They just took Meg at her word. Also, as an intern, wouldn't Michael have recognized that she was pregnant? I can almost understand the Griffins not doing further investigation because they don't care about her anyway, but Michael? Excuse me, let me take my medicine and remember that it's just a cartoon.
Has anybody else noticed that whenever a character is killed or maimed on Family Guy, they lie on the ground with one of their legs at a funny angle? It seems as much a signature of the show as having a funny character with the hippie voice.
Other moments I enjoyed: the 72 virgins, the Iron Giant and the doll to show where the man touched you, the big parody movie explosion, and Doggy Hell with the vacuum cleaner.
The episode did have its over-the-top sick moments. The scene with the coathanger comes to mind. Also, "Officer Nasty" was a little much for me.
It seems that despite the one-episode reprieve, Meg will continue to be treated like crap by the rest of the family as evidenced by Lois' mumbled and incoherent "I love you" near the end. Ah, consistency.
I did enjoy this episode much more than last week's. That's all until after the strike. If this should end up being the last ever episode of Family Guy, you have to admit that they chose an interesting note to go out on. Conrad Twitty?

Meg has a history of dating older guys, including Mayor Adam West and the voice over guy for the Super Friends ("Meanwhile, under Meg Griffin's bra!")

The original voice of Fred Flintstone, Alan Reed, died in 1977. His replacement, Henry Corden, died in 2005. So, no, they didn't get the original voice actor.
Why aren't you looking this up yourself?

However old Meg may be, and whether the show implied statutory rape or not, it's been a basic piece of the fabric of the Family Guy universe that Meg is ugly and nobody will ever have sex with her (except for Neil Goldman, the school nerd). So, for a normal looking, older, male intern to suddenly fall for Meg and have sex with her (which I agree, it must have happened for her to think she was pregnant) is simply a break is basic FG dogma.
Anyway, I thought this episode was horrible. The writers have gotten so lazy. A random reference can be funny because it's random to what's going on in the show, but is still intrinsically funny within the confines of itself. However, a random reference that's nothing more than random and supposed to be funny due solely to it's randomness, simply is not funny (everybody get that?). For example, why Andy Garcia and the shoulder-twin? Either I'm forgetting something about Andy Garcia, or it's just not freakin' funny. Things like that give absolute credence to South Park's allegation that manatees write the show using reference balls. Clearly, the manatees picked up balls that said "conjoined twins" and "andy garcia" and "date" and suddenly we have a Family Guy skit. Trey Parker and Matt Stone couldn't have written a more unfunny, dumb, totally random, meaningless 15 seconds of wasted animatation.
I guess what pisses me off the most is that manatees are not members of the WGA and don't go on strike. So, if the level of humor on Family Guy is literally that of manatees picking random reference-balls from one side of the tank and dropping them into a hole in the other side of the tank, then there is no excuse for the writers, whatever species they may be, to be on strike. Not for Family Guy. You have to earn your worth.
After this episode (and the last few, as well), I officially withdraw my support for the striking writers of Family Guy. And I hereby reserve the right to support striking WGA members on a show-by-show basis.
I've never written anything, but if Fox is reading this, I'd be happy to cross the picket line and work as a scab writer for Family Guy. I can pick random words out of a dictionary, so I'm clearly qualified. I have a BA degree in English as well as a law degree (JD). Fox, let me know if you need some help picking random words for Family Guy. I'll cross this particular picket line without hesitation or guilt.

Man...for god's sake, stop trying to find reason, logic and consistencies in this show. You've been doing that for the past few weeks now, and always end it with some flippant remark about how "this is a cartoon". YES! We goddamn know that too.
If it's so hard to actually review find something to say, then don't, just describe what as much as you remember about the show. I'm sure people are willing to cut you some slack on the account that it's a "cartoon".

The age of consent in Rhode Island is sixteen, so it wouldn't be statuatory rape.

Mel, this show used to be fantastically funny and cutting-edge. There is never an excuse for anything to suck, particularly the mere fact that it's animated.

Bruce, Andy Garcia was born with a conjoined twin attached to his shoulder which was removed when he was born. And I'm willing to bet that the conjoined twin had a better sense of humor than you...at least he would understand and enjoy FG.

I didn't like the whole story about Meg that much myself, I may be bad but I like it much better when they just hit her, blame her, or kill her :)
There's also a few jokes that didn't work for me, like Andy Garcia or Alien.
But thank God not everyone was infected this week, and a couple of characters were true to their selves : Brian and Stewie.
Now that bit was just great, I loved the "over" discussion, awesome Stewie, and I realy laughed out loud at that explosion !!

Nosidam, I've been a huge fan of FG ever since the first episode. But I've been very disappointed with the last season, and this current season is even worse, so far. I have high expectations for a show that has proven it can be the funniest thing on TV.
That said, Andy Garcia really had a conjoined twin removed from him? I've never heard that before. I'll have to do some googling. Not saying it's not possible, but I can't believe I would have never heard of that before. If it is true, then the joke would make some sense and be above manatee-level.

wow, again, a family guy review that appears to be written by a high school student for an assignment.
the show isn't going to make realistic sense. and instead of telling us what you thought was and wasn't funny and what made sense and didn't make sense, give us a little background - find out if that was the voice of fred flintstone (it didn't sound like it though) or relate references to other episodes, etc.

It wasn't an incoherent "I love you", it was a very coherent "I a you too" that Lois said at the end.

Honestly, this season of Family guy reminds me of the Simpsons after season 11. You keep watching because you remember the glory days, but there are far more "please end" moments (like the brutal beating of the pretty girl or the overly repetitive explosion or the Andy Garcia part) than laugh out loud moments. I obviously watch Family guy to laugh, but these days I just don't really like it anymore. American Dad is FAR better nowadays, and I'm losing faith that Family Guy will return to its former glory ever again.

Good Call, Doug! Nice...
I thought the scene with Brian & Stewie on the walkie-talkies with SO FUNNY!
"When this thing is Over?"
"when this this is what? over."
"I didn't realize you had to say over when the sentence ends in over."
"When the sentence ends in what? over"

I thought the Andy Garcia conjoined twin head was pretty funny. That one giant tooth was a great visual gag. The rest of the episode wasn't that great though. Meg's funnier as a horrible character than as someone the family is interested in.
Individual lines though were great - like Lois not asking Meg to get an abortion, but to smoke and binge drink - but don't get cold feet or Chris comes out.
