Randy Jackson brings dance competition to MTV

Randy JacksonSo you think you can dance on "America's Best Dance Crew?" American Idol judge Randy Jackson and MTV certainly hope so. Or at least that you'll watch other dance crews try to earn that title. Variety tells us that Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew, or RJPABDC for short, comes to us in the first quarter of next year, the same time FOX drops American Idol. No word on whether Jackson will appear on the show.

The show originated at NBC, but when they considered it might actually bring in viewers, they passed it up to develop Law & Order: Central High: "In the public education system, the students are represented by two separate, yet equally important, groups: the hall monitors who catch rules violators and the principals who discipline the offenders. These are their stories."

RJPABDC keeps the groups intact instead of forcing each performer to go solo, and sticks to the hip-hop style these performers tend to excel in. That way we can enjoy those awesome dance troupes from So You Think You Can Dance without the painfully stiff Pasa Doble and Quick Step routines they tend to deliver. In a dance competition where the breakdancing "tricks" and "stunts" are what it's all about, these impressive acrobatic performers will really get the chance to shine.

Let's face it, how many of us would rather watch Hok, from SYTYCD, do a slow waltz over seeing him and his whole troupe fly around the stage, bouncing off their faces and dislocating their limbs. You know you get extra "street cred" points for bones breaking through flesh. A dude I knew got mad props for jumping off a four story building back in the day, doing a triple flip before landing on his neck. The crowd cheered for fifteen minutes while he twitched to the music. Then someone called 911.
