Yesterday, Variety reported that several writers from the Young and the Restless had crossed the WGA picket line in order to keep their jobs. After the article ran, a spokesperson for the WGA-East condemned those planning to cross the picket line and warned them that they'd "never be full members of the Writers Guild again."However, the Variety article isn't true, according to a memo sent out late Tuesday from the WGA-West and the Y&R writing staff. The Y&R statement reads: "We were incensed to read the incorrect information printed in Variety that several writers on our show sought financial core status...Our entire writing staff of 18 is united and we fully support our union."
United Hollywood is reporting that only ONE non-writing Y&R producer (with WGA membership from previous work) has chosen to cross the picket line -- "to the detriment of all the writers on that staff, and in this effort."
I linked to the story yesterday because I assumed Variety was a reliable source for information. With rumors flying, and stories coming fast and furious, it would probably be best if Variety does a better job of fact-checking their stories before they rush to publish.

It would be nice if they were still in talks. And Eddie the producers offered the writers nothing so they almost dared them to strike. This strike hurts everyone and both sides should be talking.

Well, I just have to say that with the stupid television shows like "A Shot At Love with Tila Tequila" and "American Idol", as well as movies as awful as "Gigli" that we've been subjected to over recent years, the writers should not only be denied a larger share of the revenues, but should consider themselves lucky to be paid AT ALL!

Their reps want to negotiate with the studios so the 4-5 cents they make on DVDs sold doesn't turn into 0 (that's zero), as the companies turn to advertiser-supported streams on their sites or iTunes downloads. Yep, the companies that sued Google for $1,000,000,000 for allowing fans to post clips online, are telling the writers they're not making any money online, so can't afford to pay them a penny.
I'm calling shenanigans on the deal. So should you, if you're really a TV fan.
Oh--and to the guy who suggests that American Idol and Tila Tequila are bad, guess what? Those aren't written by the writers on strike. And from what I've read, you're going to get a whole lot more of those as the big corporations try to hold out on the writers, trying to break their resolve. Personally, I just want to get my favorite show, House, back on track before they run out of episodes.
