When one of our favorite TV shows goes off the air, it can be devastating. However, many times, the cancellation is the birth of a spinoff. Sometimes it can be a great thing (Rhoda) and sometimes not so much (Tabitha). Here are some this month's spinoff ideas that I would love to see.
The Young Jason Gideon Chronicles
What is it that made Jason Gideon the enigmatic person he became? Watch and find out. See the events that turned a carefree young teenager into the sullen, contemplative FBI agent we came to know on Criminal Minds. See the part his parents (Michael McKean & Annette O'Toole) played in his transformation.
I Dream of Roger
After Tony Nelson retires from the Air Force to settle down with Jeannie and the rest of the Nelson clan, his buddy Roger Healy gets transferred to Washington DC and is put in charge of Project Blue Book. Along with his beautiful female partner (Tuesday Weld) who happens to be an alien, the two of them ferret out the real UFO sightings from the hoaxes.
Al and Gushie
When Dr. Sam Beckett fails to return from his latest leap, Admiral Al Calavicci and Gushie decide to go after Sam and bring him home. Together, the pair travel through time always seeming to end up at a crucial point in history. Whether they're meeting Ben Franklin before he signs the Declaration of Independence or running into Napoleon on the eve of Waterloo, they are always there to give history a nudge and make plenty of halitosis jokes. The late Dennis Wolfberg who played Gushie will be replaced by Gilbert Gottfried.
Adventures with Paris
After graduating from Yale, Rory Gilmore's "best friend" Paris Geller was determined to become a doctor. Fortunately for the infirm around the world, things didn't quite work out that way. Watch Paris as she finally decides to settle down in Boston and figure out what she's doing with her life. Paris' new best friend is Shirley, her contact at her temp agency (played by Megan Mullaly) who's life is only slightly more together than her own.
The Brian Tanner Mysteries
As a child, Brian was the closest confidant of Gordon Schumway (AKA Alf). As an adult, Brian spends his days and nights as a private investigator. With a lot of help from Alf, his associate inside Area 51, Brian uncovers the most complex government conspiracies. To satisfy the "hook" of the show, each week, Brian has a phone call with Alf while Alf disguises his voice. This allows different celebrities to guest star as the voice of Alf.

This is all a joke, right? In support of the strike? Trying to show that we really do need the writers?
If this isn't a joke, then this article just reinforces my belief that everyone that writes for this blog (and Cinematical) want to be a Hollywood bigshot writer/director.
It also reinforces my ideas about why you all write for blogs...;)

How about the "Susie Chronicles"? A scripted reality show/comedy/drama The Biggest Loser meets Curb Your Enthusiasm.
In each episode, Susie Green (played by Susie Essman) goes into angry, profane tirades each episode to help transform people's lives.
Call it tough love, but nothing is more powerful than calling people a "Fat Piece of Shit" or a "Four-Eyed Fuck" to help people confront themselves and make the big changes they need in their life.

I've love to see a Quantum Leap spin off, as that show ended pretty abruptly. I don't think visiting pivotal moments in history would be the way to do it though - they kinda tried to do this in season 5 to boost the ratings but it didn't work too well.
There was talk of a spin off last year, with some plans for a TV movie possibly extending into a series. Sam's (now grown up) daughter was to be the main character with Al as her advisor. Google search "bold leap forward" for more details.
I'd *love* it if this actually went into production.

How about Space 2099? An empty Moonbase Alpha careens around the universe, its crew long dead because there weren't enough breeders.
Urkel Matters: As U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Urkel tackles weighty issues such as AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa and genocide in Darfur. After hillariously failing to solve the Iranian nuclear issue, he inadvertently causes World War III. "Did I do that?" he asks.
Wesley the Crusher: Brought back to life in an arcane fashion by Willow, undead Wesley becomes a private investigator in a Los Angeles that looks a lot like Vancouver. He must balance his new super-undead powers with his tragic, unrequited love for a female demon who holds the key to something MacGuffiny.
Foreman, M.D.: Finally out from under House's direction, Foreman makes a brilliant diagnosis that turns out to be wrong, making the patient worse. He finally figures out the medical mystery in the last 7 minutes of the show after an unrelated conversation with a minor character. (This is not a synopsis of a particular episode; it's the synopsis of every episode.)

"The Jaded Weeks" A spin-off of "The Wonder Years", Kevin Arnold, now in his 80's remincesces about his life in the decade of the 80's. Divorced, a single father of two, he looks back, embittered and with far less optimism on Regannomics, and living in a studio apartment. (Total joke of course, just couldn't resist.)
