(S02E08) Peter Petrelli: "I remember...I remember everything." Adam Monroe: "Good, then...Shall we save the world?"
So, if you're a hero, a lot can happen in four months. And, apparently, a lot is going to happen in the next three episodes as our favorite heroes have to save the world (and probably the cheerleader) again. From those scenes from next week's Heroes, it looks like there may be a stand-off coming between the two father-daughter pairs on the show (Noah/Claire & Bob/Elle). I can't wait to see that.
Some may disagree with me, but I thought this was a great episode. I know nothing really moved forward in the "present-day plot" so to speak, but we got a lot of much-needed answers about some of the key players on the show. And, most importantly, Peter Petrelli got his memory back. Brainless Peter was just annoying.
The episode was bookended with scenes in the Montreal warehouse. The beginning scene was basically the same one from last week. Peter throws a lightning bolt which is consumed by Adam's hand. They clearly know each other, but how? They are clearly comrades and this is their rendezvous point, but in what way, and why? By the end, we are back in Montreal and everything (well, almost everything) makes sense.
But in between the show took us back to the first time the heroes saved the world and explained a lot about how we got to where we are now. Most of the episode, much to the dismay of cheerleader fans and Hiro fans, focused on Peter. But I think we needed it . We needed to find out what happened in between Peter saving the world and losing his memory.
Peter and Nathan
I'm sure everyone remembers Nathan flying Peter into outer space to save the world (well, really just New York city). Apparently, Peter told Nathan to let go of him so he could explode, reanimate, and fly back to catch his dying brother. Whoa, I wonder if the cheerleader or Adam exploded, could they reanimate that quickly?
Peter brings his brother to a hospital (because I'm sure regular hospitals can cure a man who has been charred by radioactive energy). However, his plan doesn't go too far because he gets zapped by the sadistic Elle. I was happy to see her back this episode.
Peter (during his stay at the company)
Peter is brought to the company headquarters (presumably the same place they are holding little Mollie and crazy Nikki). At first, Peter completely subscribes to what Bob and Elle are telling him: they can help him by turning off his powers. He even finds out some background information about electricity girl. She burnt down her grandma's house, she shut down a few counties with a blackout, and she has lived at the company headquarters for the better part of her life. She is lonely and eager to get to know Peter. By the way, her version of getting to know him is zapping him everyday and getting a kinky pleasure out of it.
Peter thinks he is being cured but then he starts talking to Adam who says that the company is full of it and convinces Peter to break out. I think I really like this duo. I like Adam Monroe more than I liked Kensei too. Unlike the drunken uncaring Kensei, Adam takes ownership of his powers (clearly he is an evolved version of himself). The two finally meet face to face after Peter regains his powers and walks through the cell wall. Adam uses his blood to heal the crispy Nathan and the two make for their escape.
But, Elle catches them and disables them with a bolt of electricity. She goes to take care of Adam and sends the Haitian to grab Peter. The Haitian locks Peter in the shipping container and tells him that he deserves to choose his own fate. See, if I could choose my own fate, I would choose to keep my memory, but that's just me. To sum up, we found out how Peter ended up shirtless and dirty in a shipping container with no recollection of who he is or how he got there.
D.L., Nikki, and Micah
So, D.L. is not dead. No, wait, he's dead again now. What was the point of bringing him back for forty minutes? We know he loves Nikki. He took a bullet for her last season. Yet our first scene of the super family is at the hospital with a doctor telling Nikki and Micah the good news. Here's why I think they brought him back. Paying the hefty doctor's bills is a good way for Bob to worm his way into Nikki's heart. This way he could make his offer about coming in for tests to get her wacko self under control. I'm still waiting to meet the intelligent side of Nikki's personality. Sure, go run some tests with the company. They are very trustworthy.
Of course Nikki doesn't accept Bob's magnanimous offer, but tries an at-home remedy instead. The three go back to their lives and try to pretend like they don't have super powers. (To clarify, D.L. and Micah have super powers. Nikki just has an infestation of crazy women who live inside her head--a step up from Maya's wonderful power, if you ask me.)
But living a normal life of a car salesperson doesn't last long because Gina (a new slutty personality) takes over Nikki's body. Gina goes to L.A. where she does cocaine and dances with a sleazy guy. D.L. is magically able to locate her in a matter of hours and comes to the rescue. But, alas, he gets shot...again....in the chest. Hopefully this time he will stay dead. Oh, but before D.L. gets shot again, he saves a little girl in a fire. A scene that was sweet but completely unnecessary.
Alejandro and Maya
Alejandro gets married much to Maya's dismay. He's only known the girl for four months and his bride is clearly still in love with Roberto. Maya finds the two having sex and when she threatens to tell her brother, Roberto starts choking her. Bad idea, dude. You don't want to find out what happens when Maya's mascara starts running. I called it right when I heard the conversation between Maya and Alejandro while they were dancing. I said to my husband, "She is going to find that bride cheating on her brother and kill the whole town." Not like this was much to be proud of because when those twins are around, people usually die by suffocation and black mascara. We didn't get too many big answers about them. We just got a bit more of their story (i.e. the first time she used her powers, the first time he brought her back from the "dark side," and how they became outlaws).
Mama Petrelli
So I have to bring this up. Does anyone else think that Peter and Nathan's mother has powers too? Has this been hinted at before? Did I miss something crucial (I think I may have.)? She is one of the key players in the company and Linderman had powers but that doesn't mean that everyone that works for the company is special. It just seemed like she was "persuading" Heidi to do her bidding in this episode. All those shots of Mama Petrelli touching her when she spoke were weird and kind of ominous. She does have two very powerful sons so it would only make sense that she too had some tricks up her sleeve.
Where we left off...

Yes, Mama Petrelli has a subtle power - she seems to have the ability to persuade (see the scene at the end with Niki/Gina/whoever). This was discussed last season on the TV Squad boards...
Thank goodness, an episode to move things forward! I didn't mind DL coming back, however briefly. Things are shaping up nicely. Just bummed that we're going to have 3 more episodes then bupkus...

Well, we have already seen Claire go from extra crispy to back to normal in a matter of seconds when Ted blew up their house, so the answer would be yes.
Great episode. Gave us some much needed answers.
I think they could have come up with a more imaginative way for DL to die. That seemed kinda weak to have him get shot.

Ok. So here's my bizzaro idea - Adam/Kensei is Nathan's father. It's a wild guess but - he's been in "jail/company's hold" for 30 years - perhaps he faked his death. But the whole "delusions of grandeur" thing his mom was talking about to convince Nathan's wife to stay away and the fact that Claire can heal herself as Adam can - it just seemed to be too much of a coincidence. I'm not sure if Peter is his son as well, though - not sure how old Peter is supposed to be. Since I don't think we've ever seen the father - this is purely conjecture. Did anyone else think the same thing after last night's epp?

I'm not necessarily sure that Elle is Bob's daughter. I don't think it's ever been said and Bob called her a colleague last night.

Did I miss something? Why could Peter fake taking his meds to regain his powers, and escape, but Adam could not?

So if the Haitian put Peter in the shipping container did he also leave the box with the picture/plane ticket/address?

While I enjoyed parts of the ep, it was still hit or miss for me.
First, minor nitpick: Sorry, but there's no way Nathan would have been able to grow that thick beard in three week's time. A more logical thing would have been to have the beard grow in all scraggily as all layers of his skin healed up.
Continuing on Nathan -- we still don't have a clearcut explanation as to why his political career has apparently tanked. Or why he and his wife are now estranged. Wasn't there a suggestion that he had started drinking? Again, three weeks seems like a very short time for all that to happen.
Also -- Sylar: Would have been nice to see how he really escaped.
I guess in the cases of Matt and Mohindar and the Bennett's the writers figured that we've already gotten enough information about them to figure out what they were up to the past four months. Still it would have been nice to have given them some kind of scenes. But I guess they gave us what they could within the hour time-frame.
On the plus side, looks like we may not have seen the last of George Takei?

Some may disagree with you? Seriously? Because I completely agree with you. Fantastic episode! I even liked seeing the twins, because it was kinda cool to see the whole town dead. And let's give it up for the beaucoup use of powers all around in this episode especially from Peter. Whee!

Zek,
Adam couldn't escape because he can heal/regenerate. He can't really use that power to escape.

Maybe Adam wasn't taking pills. Maybe he gets injections or some other type of way that he couldn't escape not taking his medication.
Either way this episode definetly filled some blanks.
Totally agree that bringing DL back was ridiculous, but I guess it was needed to get Nikki into the program and to let us see why Michah was left with people he barely knew.

ZEK- Adam can only reanimate, he can't walk through walls or absorb other people's powers like Peter.
Great episode though, glad all the ground has been set in the previous couple of episodes and we got some answers. I almost was starting to get to the point where I thought Heroes was going to fall off my rader, but now I look forward to the few that we have left!

"Nikki just has an infestation of crazy women who live inside her head"
No, she has super strength. One of the side effects of her superpower is the crazy schitzo women in her head.
@G: I'm not 100% sure, obviously, but I seem to recall that it's explicitly been said that Nathan and Peter have the same father, and that his suicide wasn't THAT long before the series started. I believe one of the flashbacks in Season 1 took place at his funeral or shortly after, actually.
@rulesaremyenemy: Peter put that stuff in his pocket as they were leaving the hospital -- the ticket, the passport, etc. He got it all from Adam/Kensei. I'm guessing the Irish dude is the one that took it all off him and put it into a box.
@Tom: Nathan and his wife are estranged because Mama Petrelli "persuaded" her to get away to protect his privacy (and because he's essentially "crazy"). And I'm thinking being near-dead after a crazy accident that was probably billed a suicide attempt killed his political career mighty fast!
@Ras Thavas: Totally with you on DL's death. I actually like the character, and to have some random dude shoot him because he "retrieved" his wife and then punched crazy dude in the stomach? Hardly seems realistic, even for L.A.!

Ok so, what about Sylar? What happened to him right after Peter exploded/how did he get to Mexico. And how was Parkman's recovery, his break up with wifey, and adopting Molly? There was also no Bennett family scenes of them moving to Cali. I was dissapointed.

For a "Four Months Ago" episode, this one was weak. There was absolutely no information whatsoever on Sylar, Parkman, the Bennetts, Mohinder, or Hiro. Didn't the ad at least say we'd learn how Sylar got away?
The episode in general was pretty decent, but the amount of content they left out was staggering. They needed 90 minutes for this one.

Yep, I'll disagree: I thought this episode was a huge bore. I mean, it was good to have some of the blanks filled in, but talk about some ridiculous plots! Peter's locked in a room for two months before he begins to question why? DL lets himself get shot point-blank? Elle's been in the "facility" for 16 years? Sigh... what a massive disappointment this show has become.

They showed him escaped when he killed the chick that can mess with people's minds visually. He bashed her over the head with breakfast then took off. He was in the middle of the jungle and walked out of it. The Wonder Twins found him like half-dead in the middle of the desert. That is how he escaped.
I like the idea of Adam being Nathan and Peter's father. However, what of the picture of the original Company? Was Adam in it? Was he next to Mama P? Did Nathan point out "that is my mother and father" when he saw the picture? I don't know. Just thought of that.

One more thing - anyone have a theory of the cockroaches that follow Sylar around? The two places I remember them is when he escaped into the manhole after being stabbed and after he killed the American kid in Mexico. Anyone, any thoughts?

Still no explanation as to who took Sylar or why. Otherwise, the only good episode of the season. If only the rest of them moved this fast.
And left out that mangina Suresh. Dream episode - Micah is killed by some kind of machine that churns up his bones and we never hear from him again. Nikki commits suicide and kills Suresh and that dumb fat cop before popping a cap in her own head. Ah, that'd be grand and then we could move on to the more interesting characters (ideally Hiro and Ando die soon thereafter too!).
Elle is the best character in quite some time. Thank god they've got someone interesting in the mix finally. Sylar's a decent bad guy but so one note; Elle's jacked in the head and amusing for it.
