First it was Bobby, then Silvio and now Satriale's.
Last month, the familiar building that served as one of the hangouts for Tony Soprano and his crew was demolished. Manny Costeira, owner of the property, told people, "We whacked the pork store" after selling the empty building and the property it sits on.
The well-known "pork store" had been closely identified with The Sopranos for the entirety of the show's run. Unfortunately, after the show's cancellation, the empty building became little more than a tourist attraction.
Plans to construct nine condo units on the property where the building once stood are in the works. Costeira said that construction will begin on the new development, called "The Soprano" in the spring of 2008.
For fans of the show who need something physical to remember the show by, Costeira has been selling chunks of the store on the internet. Pieces of the building have been mailed to fans as far away as Ireland and New Zealand.
The loss of the store has forced the proprietors of the Sopranos bus tour to replace that stop with a trip to Holsteins, the real-life restaurant where the final scene of the series was shot. Tour members spend time sitting in the booths, eating onion rings and keeping track of how many locals go insane from hearing the tourists continually complain about the series finale.
