Most avid fans of Battlestar Galactica have likely already know about the advance screening of Battlestar Galactica: Razor in theaters tonight. I've already seen the movie via DVD last month, but is that going to stop me from heading to my local theater to see Galactica on the big screen? Frack no!
Personally, I'll be heading to the Framingham, MA location at 7PM and might have a few TV Squad T-Shirts to give away if you're there. Unfortunately it looks like registration for all Boston-area events have been full for weeks, so I hope you got lucky and grabbed a seat.
So, are you heading to the closest theater to you for this event? If so, which city?

I was going to, until I read the admission ticket they sent me and realized that half of the screening is going to be in-your-face ads for the "Mass Effect" videogame as well as XBox 360 and Zune commercials.
I'd rather wait and watch it on DVR where at least I can skip the loud and abrasive ads.
Note to parents: "Mass Effect" is rated Mature, so taking the kids to see this screening might not be the best idea.

I don't know what this is rated, but there are definitely a few shots that I wouldn't describe as "gore" but are definitely not appropriate for some children.

Alas, I'm not near any of those cities, so I can't go, and unlike JPN I'm not smart enough or stupid enough to steal it, so I'll just have to wait until it airs.

Seeing is this is a first come first serve type event. I will gladly wait two extra weeks to see it in the comfort of my own home.
And plus, its just a DVD copy they are projecting up on a big screen. No thanks.

These have been some of the lamest comments ever.
Yes its cross promoted with video games and stuff. Its a free event so how do they pay the bills? Do you think they will break into the screening with ads? Really!?!
Battlestar isnt for kids anyways.
And It will be the DVD version of the show, I highly doubt they use a actual dvd version to project it. There is a TV version of the movie and a DVD version of the movie.
Ugh don't bash BSG for the sake of having some comment that aims to take a stab at it.

I'm not sure why there's anti-theater talk here either. It's BSG -- on the BIG SCREEN. What's not to love about that? I'm not sure where it was mentioned that this will be a DVD being projected onto screens, but I guess we'll find out.
Like I said, I *already saw* this movie and to have the chance to see it on a big screen with other die-hard fans ... what's not to love?
You can wait to enjoy it at home, but be prepared for *gasp* commercials there, too!

I'm in Baltimore so no chance of seeing it before it airs. They couldn't even manage to screen it in D.C., which I would have made an effort to get to. Would have been nice to see it on the big screen (by the way Akbar - theaters are screening a lot of new films via digital projection nowadays, so don't assume it's going to be someone popping a DVD into a player and projecting that on the big screen at a lower resolution).

chris, you are incorrect.
The version being shown is the TV version. It will not be the uncut full version coming on DVD later this year.
What I meant by a DVD version being projected on screen is just that. The source material they are using is a DVD. This is confirmed by a friend who works at one of the local theaters showing this.

I'm w/ you, McDuffee.
I'm opting out of a scifi.com forum Razor viewing party in Los Angeles and driving over an hour away from the city just to get the BIG screen and BIG sound experience; I don't care if the source is "not in hi-def" DVD-based.*
And what can top sitting in a BSG fan-filled theater - sharing it with like-minded viewers?
If you were at San Diego Comic-Con's Razor teaser or especially at Arclight Hollywood's Cinerama Dome event** - then you know that there's nothing like being in the midst of a high-energy audience and experiencing the thunderous excitement of true fans.
Have fun, everyone. I gotta get ready for a road trip...

Hey everyone, I live in Beijing China, and I got the DVD last week and watched it. What can I say AMAZING, all the characters you love and a great story.
Although China has some issues, traffic, bad line ups, and polution that kills.
We have DVD's before they even air.

I know that China is a another story altogether - but when I was in college, a professor told me that you could get in more trouble for copy right enfringement than you could for selling crack on a street corner. When did it all change? What happened to paying for the product that others busted their humps to make?

Ok copy rights in China, you made me spill my morning tea, I have two DVD stores in my apartment, they sell fake DVD all night long, and this is the real kicker you are not going to like the cost is about $1,00 US. Sometimes we get moview before they are out like Spiderman for example, we had it in China about 10 days before the international openning.
For DVD's and and appearl fakes are everywhere!!! You don't have to look hard, trust me.
The copy of Razor I have has a small spot saying property of ..... (I forget) it pops on the screen about every 10 minutes for 2 seconds.

I was at the 7 pm showing in North Brunswick, NJ tonight. I have to say a few things about Razor.
First, it's a wonderful stand alone story, but it does manage to have some major impact on the series.
Second, I hope more shows take the lead from BSG and have theater events because this honestly was a fantastic and fun event.
It was a total geekfest, we discussed everything from BSG to Trek to Star Wars, Hex Torchwood Dr. Who.... it was great fun.
It was the television version of the film and halfway through they did show both a Mass Effect and Zune commercial. I didn't really care, nothing free is free... but this was as close as you can get.
There were some huge fanboy moments throughout this movie... I could spoil this but it's only a few days away.
Many things are explained (how Pegasus escaped the Cylon attack) and some things are given context but not excused (Gina's discovery capture and subsequent "interrogation").
Anyway if I keep writing I'll end up spoiling so I'll stop. I hope BSG brings the Season 4 Premiere and Series Finale back onto the big screen. I had such a good time I may hit up one of the city theatres instead and see it with an even larger audience on an even bigger screen.

Hey Chris,
I am in Beijing right now. What area of town did you buy your copy?? I am in around Zhongguancun. When I first got here I scoured the streets for BSG but to no avail. Ended up settling for Lost, which everyone is now hooked on. Now if I can get everyone hooked in BSG my work will be complete.

So I was at the 10 PM showing in Seattle. Holy Frakk balls - to all of our surprise about 15 minutes before the show went on, out came Jamie Bamber and the actress that plays Kendra Shaw (at least I think it was her - I walked in from the restroom while they were talking...and I didn't recognize her from the series). While they were in front of the theater they gave some lucky SOB an Xbox 360, randomly drawn from the audience. From what I saw Jamie and the girl didn't really say anything, but before they left some girl yelled "Take off your shirt Apollo" - then the presenter joked that it was Jamie's wife in the audience but then Jamie got on the mic and said judging from the accent he didn't think it was her. And then he said that he couldn't take off his shirt, that it was impossible. I was not expecting an Apollo appearance! Totally made my night.
PS the movie was awesome. As Ellory said it totally had its own story that explained certain things about the Pegasus that were only alluded to in the series, but at the same time gives you some unbelievably awesome info about the upcoming season. OMG and Cain really was a crazy cold-hearted bitch. But I loved it.
There was also an exclusive trailer at the end for Season 4 - which I totally can't frakkin' wait for (especially now).
So many fanboy moments in Razor btw!! There were several times the whole theater was cracking up. Oh and as we were leaving they gave out these little gift bags with some BSG swag. The bags have two Battlestar Galactica: Zarek comics, an old school pose-able "toaster" cylon figurine (I frakkin love it), a "Tin Man" comic book promoting the miniseries coming to SciFi in December, and two little promo BSG flyers promoting the new season and bsgarcade.com.
Commercialwise, there were like 4 or 5 zune/mass effect commercials at the beginning of the movie and 2 others about halfway through. We all kind of laughed when they started in the middle, but I don't think any of us really gave a frakk.
I honestly don't know how I'm going to be able to watch Season 4 not on the big screen now that I've seen BSG in all its glory. Anybody earlier that was making fun and saying that it was just a DVD being played obviously was mad they didn't live close enough to a theater showing it. The quality was perfectly fine and worked amazingly well on the big screen. Seeing BSG on a huge frakkin' screen with surround sound and a bunch of other BSG fanatics is the most amazing thing ever. Now if only they could do this every sunday once the new season premieres.... oh a boy can dream.
