24 may be on the back burner for Fox because of the writers strike, but ABC says it plans to air at least eight episodes of Lost in the mid-season. Lost executive producer and co-creator Damon Lindelof was on the picket line this week supporting his writers when he told Broadcasting & Cable about the network's plans. He said the eighth episode, which is already written, ends with a cliffhanger. So it could, theoretically, cap off a shortened season if the writers strike continues through the New Year.Lindelof didn't say whether this changes ABC's plans to run the season straight-through starting in February. I imagine that if we only get 8 episodes of Lost next season, they'll probably air in February and then in May for sweeps. Just a guess, though.
Lost's other high profile executive producer, Carlton Cuse, was also on the picket lines this week. He had a sign that said: "Do you want to know what the island is?".

Hmm, this is really strange when you factor in the way they already decided to shorten it and to hold off until January. I am glad they are airing them but it's a really odd way to watch a show, then again Lost is an odd show (in a good way).
Let's hope they are able to leave off (last show was amazing), pick up, leave off, and pick up the show again without losing a step or missing a beat.

Two thoughts on this...
(1) Last season was the loudly slammed two-part season with the long hiatus after 6 episodes. They'll probably have a similar kind of "cliffhanger" like that - meaning it also could air the next episode one week or 10 months later.
(2) They've already announced that there are 48 remaining episodes, broken down into three seasons of 16 episodes. Alot of fans complained that it should have been two 24 episode seasons. It looks like they may get their wish somewhat - as this could conceivably mean there are two 20 episode seasons remaining.

That's one way to report the new, but both Lindelof and Cuse have expressed their dislike towards such a decision, and said they were personally hoping that ABC would not do it, because it would break the whole season.
"It would be a lot like airing the six last year", said Lindelof.
And while I am a fan of the show, and I'm dying to find out what happens next, I really wish ABC would NOT air those 8 episodes alone, and I honestly cannot understand how Lost fans can be happy about it...
Lost is all about the story, do you really want ABC to butcher your show and break its story ? I don't get it.

It doesn't look like the strike will end anytime soon. With this, it looks like ABC will be the only major network with new episodes of a popular regular scripted series by that time. I don't see them NOT airing it (double negative lol). The fact is, if they were to hold off until next fall or spring that would be a 16-21-month wait for fans. Not airing it would mean several things:
-that ABC will pass on the opportunity to profit from being the only network to have new episodes of a great series.
-not taking the chance to try and nab new viewers by airing old episodes of the show.
-risk losing the viewers they already have by making the fans wait more than a year between new episodes.
ABC will do whatever is best for their bottom line obviously. Damon and Carlton are producers as well as writers so I am assuming that they'd also put the money issue high on their priority list. Lost isn't just about ratings for the show though because it has the distinction of being a cult favorite that gains money off of these rabid fans by selling in other areas i.e. games, cards, dolls, etc. It is a balancing act for sure. I personally will take new episodes of Lost as soon as I can get them but if it's ultimately bad for the show, and it seems now that the writers think this is the case, then I will side with them. I just don't want to wait that long. :/

I love LOST more than any other tv show out there. I don't like the idea of them airing eight episodes, and then us fans not knowing when the other eight will air. We've already waited for season 4 for several months. The anticipated wait was killing me, but now the strike has drowned out any anticipation of LOST returning. Now all I'm worried about is when the strike is going to end :(.
But! Several people, including myself, have joined a forum organized by DocArzt or DarkUFO. It's www.thefanunion.com. I think it's an excellent idea and forum! We're forming together to try to put a end to this strike. It may not work..but it doesn't hurt to try, right?
There's also a petition going around for supporting the writers that already has over 30000 signatures to it.
But, if you want involved like I want involved, you should check out the website and all, because it has a lot of information there.
I just hope this strike ends REALLY soon. It's killing me :(!

um... first , i don't like the fact that they strike but there is something more but its only my own thought...
listen,on the picture it says "do you want to know what the island is?" it makes me think that its "something" , not a place that really exist but something like every one of us have in mind but its only imagination. i think it may be something like this becouse of how the question is made "WHAT THE ISLAND IS" not something like where it is but what it is...i hope you get the point, but i wish its just my wierd thought and im and in the future i will watch LOST and discover everything like the producers made it and not by my own imagination... im out

I would do 1 of 2 things:
1. Air the 8 episodes that have been completed, then when the strike ends, have them get together to complete the remaining 8. Air those in the summer.
2. Air the 8 they have, start season 5 in January 2009, and make it 24 episodes instead of 16 just like 24 does The first 8 would make up what would have been the second half of season 4.
This strike sucks. On the other hand though, I'm behind the writers 100%.I'm a firm believer that if you have your name attached to something, you deserve royalties for it. These greedy production company people don't see it that way hence the strike I hope the writers truly get what they deserve because they work so damn hard to bring us great TV. Strikes are all about who's going to cave first and I hope it's the greedy suits.
WGA all the way!

I agree with you, Whitney. There are few shows in which I would be really mad if they were affected by the strike; annoyed, yes, but not all that mad. I watch a lot of shows, I enjoy a lot of shows, and I while I'll watch reruns if I really like the show, obviously new shows are much better. But Lost, man, I will be really pissed if the strike messes it up. We have such a long break in between seasons anyway and if I want to watch episodes again, I just pull out my tapes and watch them (yes, I still tape -video tape!- I know I'm way behind the technology curve) because I've taped them all anyway. And, my public library has the dvd's in for borrowing ( my library has some really good stuff!). So just for Lost, I hope this gets resolved quickly, though from everything I've read on Tvsquad and other places, it may be a long one.

It's sad that greedy corporate executives don't know how to share properly. I guess that's how they became greedy corporate executives. But to deny payment due to the way the content broadcast is absurd. If I have to watch commericals then someone is getting paid...spread it around to all the people who made that viewing possible. that includes the people who wrote the script!
I love lost but I am behind the writers 100% they deserve their props.

I think we should just give the writers the money they want, they deserve it after all the GREAT episodes of Lost. That is the ONLY show i watch and that i am devoted to. I even wrote my own Lost book about Edmund's partner Radzinsky and how he came to the island. If anyone would be interested in reading, E-mail me and i'll send it. Thanks for reading.

WGA strike sucks, here's why
Just watch this Video :
http://blip.tv/file/489668
And add to this, that this strike costs 33,000 non-WGA jobs and 80 millions per day to the community.
So yeah, while the writters are still whinning on the lines, non-WGA people weren't able to buy holiday gifts for their kids and families, and will probably have to sell their houses or freakin live in the streets.
Way to go poooooor WGA, rot in hell. I hope the AMPTP hires writters from canada/england to take up the jobs in their stead.
