(S07E07) Okay, this was the first time I ever watched Smallville and had my jaw drop. Seriously. Why? Well, I'm glad you asked. Let's examine the facts: Lana and Clark are deep into dating mode. Plus, she's been staying at the Kent farm with him ever since she's returned from the dead. However, they've apparently not be able to um ... consummate that relationship because of Clark's superpowers. I guess if he gets amorous with someone, he might accidentally hurt them. Not to mention burn the place down, which he used to do when he'd get turned on.
While it's not clear how they've been getting around this, they sure didn't have to worry about it on this episode. Clark gets struck by lightning while close to some kryptonite, and his powers get transferred to someone else. Yes, again. However, this time he gets to keep his powers, and Lana is the beneficiary of the souped-up abilities. How do they celebrate this event? By knocking boots. Literally. They have such powerful sex that it causes seismic waves across Smallville. In fact, they practically destroy the Kent farm in the process. Holy cow.
Anyhow, besides Clark and Lana getting it on, we also find out that Braniac himself, Dr. Milton Fine, might be returning to the show. One of Lex's crony scientists presents him with some findings that some of the "dust" left over from the last encounter with Fine, and it's slowly been liquefying and becoming sentient. He leaves Lex with his findings, and a beaker full of the liquid, kept in check with vials of Kryptonite.
So Lana gets Clark's powers, and along with it comes an amped up dose of aggression. She goes on the warpath against Lex hardcore in this episode. Not only is it finally revealed to Chloe and Clark that Lana has been spying on Lex all this time, she also decks Lois in the process and sends her to the hospital. She also beats the crap of out Lex and uncovers all of the research he's had going on tracking the Kryptonians and Fine's spaceship.
Of course, Clark stops her in the process, and she whips out some super-powered karate on him, kicking his butt a bit in the process. However, the beaker full of black goo and kryptonite rolls near her, and brings her to her knees. Clark smashes it open and shoves an electrical cable into his chest, which sucks the powers right out of Lana. Glad it's so simple, right Clark? Why doesn't he just charge up and zap his powers into someone like Chloe, who he trusts, or use it to take Kara's powers away when she's acting up?
Besides the superpowered shenanigans, you've got Lois in the hospital from her run-in with Lana. Luckily it only left her with a wrenched shoulder, although wrenched badly enough so that she has to strip down and put on a hospital gown. Grant visits her with some flowers, and a warning to stay away from the Luthors. Plus he and Lois do some hardcore flirting. Was this just a hormonally charged episode or what? They revisit this flirting at the end of the episode, while Grant surreptitiously deletes all of her Luthor files. Plus he had a mysterious phone call with someone, assuring them that everything was taken care of. Lex? Lionel? I'm sure we'll find out soon.
The things we found out about Fine and Lex were decent, but did we really need an overcharged Lana to come into the mix? Not only was she mega-aggressive with Clark, telling him, "You can do anything, and all you've done is hide out on a farm!" but she also made out with Lex for a bit. Something is clearly going on with her beyond simple revenge, and now that her little surveillance operation has been shut down, we'll have to see what else she has up her sleeve.

horrible episode. at least they had the balls to reference that they ALREADY USED THIS PLOT DEVICE...of course except now, for no explicable reason, the powers copied instead of transferred. If it's that easy, I agree, he should loan them to others.
and no shit about that hospital. someone's there almost EVERY EPISODE. they should do a light-hearted episode where a social worker investigates or something, like Buffy. and how do these people pay for these hospital visits? must have damn good insurance. i know it's not ALL realistic, but when you insert themes about humanity and conscience and saving lives, you should at least, you know, not beat the hell out of everyone every week and then they pop back up fresh as new the next day.
i catch most of these episodes in passing and i'm glad i gave up watching this consistantly a few years ago. that whole lana/witch/france plotline did me in, and the continued destruction of the superman franchise, even as they "re-imagine" it, is sad. i'm glad they're moving lois into more of a reporter; hopefully it signals that they're realizing it might be time to wrap things up.

Smallville has not been near the top of my list for a few years now. I wonder what would revamp the storyline for me.

Why on earth would he "loan" his powers to anyone. As the episode made perfectly clear, bad things tend to happen to the people that end up with powers like Clark. His strong upbringing by his parents is one of the few things that keeps him grounded, and not everyone has had that benefit. Giving his powers to anyone is a recipe for disaster.
The hospital thing always bugs me. A small town like Smallville has an amazingly well-funded hospital. That said, I can understand the need to reuse sets to keep the budget under control, so I've learned to get past it. But still, I bristle ever time there's a scene in SGH.
That said, this wasn't a great episode, but next week should be back on track. More Helen Slater!

AC, it's a lighthearted reference to Mallrats - the super sperm would blast right through Lana's human birth canal.

Which is actually also a nod to Larry Niven's classic essay, "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex"

The whole sex thing is beyond stupid. Has been from day one. But this points out an issue that I've been having with the show for years: I'm tired of Clark not having better control over his powers. It's time to be done with that. I wish the writers (when they're not striking) would get Clark off the farm and into college, or whatever he needs to do, to become the "mild-mannered reporter" he destined to be. Moreover, Tom Welling is 30 years old and it's starting to show. If this show comes back next year, and I'm OK if it doesn't, it's time to move the mythology forward on this show.

Wow, no offense to the fans of this show but it is episodes like these that make me glad I stopped watching back in season 2. I can see this as an episode written to somewhat progress the storyline as well as to please fans (did guys get to see some skin from what's-her-face when she getting it on with what's-his-face?).
I really, really, really hate that whole transfer of power via giant electrical charge thing. It sucked the first time and it will always suck. Superman is Kryptonian, and that is he reacts differently to our yellow sun. Did they change this? Have they even established this yet? I realize "der, the sun is yellow, that's why he has powers" isn't very scientific and thus is open to the writer's imagination what they want to do with it. Still when it first happened it upset me because it implied that A) Clark's powers are not innate but instead something that can be lost permanently and B) the writers were phoning it in. Then I think they did it one or two more times after that first time.
But now it happens again except Clark gets to keep his powers. Why? Because it was a convenient plot device to get the two into bed, to get Lana to reveal some of her secrets, to get some of Lex's secrets out? Gah!
Sorry, I had to rant. It just upsets me (as a huge fan of comics) where this show went.

Ok, I love Smallville. But I am so sick of Lana. Go away! All she has is one facial expression; that doe eyed stare. What is it with the writers of this show and their love for Lana???? Retch.

I'm pretty sure they have had sex before, Lana and Chloe were talking and Clark goes "You guys talk about that", this is just the first time they had "super sex".

Clark and Lana have only had sex before when he was without his super-powers. The lost their virginity to each other, but somehow it was great rather than immature fumbling culminating in at least one of them being disappointed. When Clark got his powers back he stopped having sex with her out of fear that he could hurt her (or turn her head to ash with an ill timed burst of heat vision) if he lost control.

Usama- they've established the yellow sun being the source of Clark's powers, had a whole episode in season 3 'Perry' showing that. And in 'Bizarro' it plays a major part.
And you should probably watch season 3 as it's better than season 1 and 2, but everything else after that is crap.
Clark didn't lose his powers because the transfer wasn't complete, like in 'Leech'. Lana was only standing next to him, they weren't touching.
In that episode, it was so much better because he lost his powers. It demonstrated that he really could become Superman, and took full responsibility for Eric's actions.
They've messed up Superman, making him a mopey Lana obsessed emo who won't accept his destiny.
Season 1 Clark could have become Superman, bring him back.

If the Daily Planet is in Metropolis why would Lois end up in Smallville ER 3 hours away ?!??!
Couldn't they just dress the ER as Metropolis General?
