(S01E07) "You've got to stop this vendetta. It will destroy your family" --Pancho

Now, why would Alex stop trying to get revenge on Joe Samuels when things are just getting really good? This episode was great. And that's the first time I said that. As I watched the previews for next Tuesday, I was, for the first time, excited to see what happens next on Cane.

I need to make one comment before I start the real part of my review though. I think this show would be more popular if it was on at 8 or 9 p.m. I say, get rid of the musical acts (it's not The O.C.) and move to an earlier time slot.. CBS could have a show with the same success and longevity as Dallas.

So where to start with recounting the good things that happened tonight? Let's start with Frank because he's my not-so-secret favorite. At first, when Frank was arguing so strongly with Alex at the dinner table, I thought they were changing Frank's feelings for Alex again. First Frank hates Alex, then he's all of a sudden on Alex's side. How many angle changes does this character need to suffer?

But thankfully, it all came together for Frank shortly after that first dinner conversation. I loved seeing Frank finally confront his father. He's doing a lot of work with the present money-maker for the company: rum. Also fantastic was Frank pointing out that he was the better man for the job not just because he is Pancho's natural-born son but because he is at Duque Rum day in and day out.

I think audiences can really sympathize with Frank's position and I'm glad that Cane's writers are finally keeping Frank on his own family's side. In the beginning of the season, it seemed like he would try to usurp Alex and in doing so make his own family vulnerable to the machinations of Joe Samuels. I don't think that will happen at all now, especially now that Frank knows the truth about Lucia's death. (That conversation was a long time coming too.)



Speaking of Duque brothers, I loved Henry in this episode too. His banter with Alicia Keys was funny and his failed pick up of the new master blender was good too. I can't forget to mention Henry kicking the crap out of that punk who videotaped his niece.

Henry is being brought into the fold of the Duque family (finally). For a while there, I thought he would just be on the peripherals: running his club, sleeping with celebs, trying to keep Katie out of the club, and whining at family dinners.

I liked Ellis's parts in this episode too. Frank and Ellis's confrontation in the Samuel's meeting room was suspenseful and the question of Ellis's knowing what her father did could have even been answered next episode. From the last conversation with her father, it seems like there is more to the background story between them (particularly about the details of her mother's leaving).

Finally, Alex as the Cuban official was priceless. His affected accent was perfect. I love his plan to have Joe Samuels arrested for buying Cuban land. However, Joe probably will find a way to get out of it. After all, how will Cane operate if the only real villain is in jail and unable to harm the Duques?
