As if I didn't already have a dozen reasons to love Tina Fey, here's another: she has actually joined the writer picket lines in New York City.
While several celebrities have spoken out in favor of writers (most notably David Letterman on his show last week), this is the first celeb I've seen on the picket line. I wonder if more will follow.
Hmmm...I wonder if this could make it into an episode of 30 Rock? It's the perfect plot for them, really. Maybe the writers can be on strike and Jack decides that he and Liz can write the show themselves, or maybe Jack hires a bunch of scab writers who screw up the entire show. Hopefully someone from 30 Rock is filming Fey on the picket line.

I'm leaning in support of the writers on this issue. But seriously, all that crap they wrote into shows (like Letterman's) about how important writers are got nauseating pretty quickly. Which made me question how skilled the writers were that they couldn't write better pleas to gain support for their cause.
I wish I could go on strike to demand more money for being mediocre.

Exactly. Fey is a writer. Therefore, she's not just lending support; she's on strike. And if this *would* make a funny "30 Rock" episode, it will have to wait until after the strike to be written.

"Hopefully someone from 30 Rock is filming Fey on the picket line." Hey, why not. It's a writer's strike, not a cameraman strike, right?

It's actually a union rule that you have to picket for 4 hours a day. An acquaintance of mine is a writer, and she was explaining the rules to me the other day. It's not a vacation.

WGA DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION SOLUTION
Every digital file has a “Meta File” embedded into the file. (Digital Fingerprint)
In this “Meta File” you would have your name associated with an ID number.
Your ID number would be recorded each time the file or “Program” is Streamed, Downloaded, or an “Impression” is placed allowing a database to accurately count the number of hits and tabulating your total.
Every WGA, DGA, SAG, AFTRA, BMI, ASCAP member would have an ID associated to a program and would get paid for each hit. (Imagine when all union and associations including craft services will want an ID in the Meta File to get performance residuals. Lowered up front costs and a gamble on the back-end)
You would get paid in “Micro-Cents”, 5 hits = 1 cent, or 20 hits = 1 cent.
Establish this as the standardized digital embedded working model and you can negotiate a larger sum as time goes on. (Or make an impact and ask for $1.00 a hit!) © 2007 myspace.com/curtismacdonald

1) Tina Fey is a writer, so she's not just supporting the show's writers; she's one of them! (Not just an actor.)
2) Also, her character, Liz Lemon, is a writer on the fictional show as well. Therefore, your idea for Liz trying to write the show without writers makes no sense. Also, there already was an episode where Jack tried his hand at writing.
Do you even watch the show you're writing about, Bob?!

Tina Fey is also a producer and creator of 30 Rock, so I'm sure it's not as simple as "she's a writer."

Other producer/writers are also on strike.

It isn't quite that simple, because other producer/writers (showrunners), are contractually obligated to complete their non-writing duties regardless of what the WGA says.
I'm all for her actions though. The writers deserve a hell of a lot more than 4 cents a DVD!

I guess this means I will have to find other things to do besides depend on entertainment and just devote myself to music and other things besides tv...

Unions of any kind do not have a place in the 21st Century. Fire all those who strike. Don't show up for work, lose your job.

Jaymez, you're right. Currently, there is no place for the writer's union in the 21st century. That's precisely why writer's are striking: they make nothing from internet and dvd sales. You expect to convince me that this is how it ought to be?

There has not been a strike based episode of 30 Rock. Is it a potential comedy goldmine...? YES! But we will have to wait till the real one is over in order to get a fictional one.

Jaymez, my freind, YOU are the one living in the past. To enlighten you; unions have a very pertinent place today. Ask some of your freindly fire fighters, police, airline workers, automobile workers and writers who are either being totally under paid for their work or intellectual property and mistreated by 21st century robber barons (look the term up).
So, you're right, let's fire: all unionized employees, I hope: you can fly your own airplane (after you build it). Let's never give another raise to police, firefighters or those overpaid governmental clerks and school teachers.
That'll teach this country a lesson! Ask PATCO (look it up).
THANK YOU TINA AND ALL MEMBERS of your class and craft! Let jaymex watch reality tv 24/7.

The way I've heard it Tina Fey is a show runner, meaning that she also helps with prep, editing, and is primarily in charge of the show's creative direction. Which she does in addition to writing AND starring in the show. The fact that she's joining the picket lines means that *none* of those other jobs get done either. She IS 30 Rock.
God I love that woman.

Tina Fey is just awesome, someone who believes in and stands by the writers. I know she is a writer too, but that just makes it all the better...There should be more like her!
