NBC greenlights new modern-day King David drama

NBC logoJust because there's a writers strike doesn't mean the networks aren't buying new shows!

Just before the strike announcement, NBC made a deal for a new drama titled Kings, which is described as "a contemporary soap loosely based on the story of King David, the Biblical king of Israel." There's really something funny about that description.

The pilot will be written by Michael Green, one of the executive producers of Heroes. The show will center on a man who lives in a small town who becomes involved with a rich and powerful family. And if these descriptions don't get your interest, Green also says that he's had the idea for a while, "to retell these sort of sex and war-crazed Bible stories for a world that's convinced the Bible is all about virtue." Oh, I'm sure they'll be nothing controversial about that at all.

In other NBC news, the network has also given the thumbs up to a Robinson Crusoe series. It will be like Lost, only with less people!
