Mark your calendars, schedule a sitter: the next X-Files movie will hit the theaters on July 25, 2008.The movie hasn't even started filming yet. The cast and crew will reunite in Vancouver on December 10th (hmmm... I think I need to make a stalker trip to Canada). Not much has been leaked about the plot of this second The X-Files movie. Creator/writer Chris Carter says it will be a stand-alone story, much like the MOTW (Monster of the Week) episodes that fans loved so much. All that's being said is it's a "supernatural thriller", or a downright horror movie, rather than advancing the conspiracy storyline.
The July release date puts the unnamed movie smack dab in the middle of the summer blockbuster season, so Fox is evidently counting on this movie to be pretty big. The first X-Files film, Fight the Future, made $30 million during opening weekend and went on to make $189 million worldwide.
X-Files fans know they're lucky to be getting this film at all. Creator Chris Carter was deep in a legal disagreement with Fox in 2005 over how much the network owed him for the series. Both sides came to an out-of-court agreement last year, opening up the possibility of another movie.

They always said the sequel would be more of a stand-alone episode. As a fan of the series I'm certainly alright with that, but this being a movie I hope its dark and creepy, like the best stand alone epiosdes of "The X-Files" always were. "Home" comes to mind. Truely a great example of "The X-Files" at thier creepiest. I expect and understand that the film will probobly aim for a PG-13.

OMG!!! that is just a great news!!! can't wait for it, but im wondering how the will pick out the story, because at the end they weren't FBI agents anymore. Maybe they will place the story in the past, wich will rule out a romantic story betwen them..., just curious, either way im a very happy fan to get mulder and scully back!!!!

I am soooo excited. I still watch the reruns on tv whenever I can and find the messages just as pertinent as ever. Maybe they might try to bring the series back, who knows. It sure beats the hell out of anything they're showing these days!

Rush job.
Are they worried that if they wait any longer no one will care. Because if that's the case someone needs to tell them the movie will bomb come July.

I have mixed feelings on it being stand-alone; I kind of hope for a continuation of the aliens mythology but then we are lucky to get another "X-Files" movie at all, I suppose.
"Home" was by far the creepiest and scariest episode of a TV show that I had ever seen. I couldn't sleep the night after I watched it.

Yay! I can't wait for this. I only just got into X-Files last year, so I wasn't around for all the fan excitement surrounding the first movie, and now it's my chance to experience that.
X-Files did some really funny stand alone episodes; Bad Blood for example. I hope it's like those episodes, that would be fantastic.
I'm so happy that this movie is getting made, but I'm a little paranoid now that they'll pull a Serenity and kill Mulder and/or Scully off in the movie. Hopefully that won't happen, and it'll be a nice happy ending.

I think this is AWESOME news! I still watch the X files religiously, and to hearing that theres gonna be another x files movie is just awesome. I just wish people would stop being so opinionated on if they think its a good idea or not, or how they were p!ssed off about the first x files movie. In my mind if you are a true X files fanatic then you'd appreciate any x files movie/show ever made.

What with all the legal problems and seeming indifference of the stars and creators, as an X-Files fan I never thought this day would come. I am so pleased all now seems to be moving ahead. Welcome back Mulder & Scully !!
I do agree with no.5 though: the show may have avid fans but it isn't blockbuster material. A July release may kill it. If it's a standalone story with maybe some horror themes, a Haloween 2008 release seems more appropriate.

OMG! I can't wait to see this! I have loved the X-Files forever! Still trying to get all the seasons on DVD so I can see any episodes that I've missed by watching it on SCIFI. I agree with number 7. Mel, I hope they don't kill any of them off. I was so ticked when they killed him on Serenity! Now all Fox has to do is make a Dark Angel movie and I'll be happy!!! LMAO

I am one of those strange odd people who love the conspiracy, which probably has something to do with why I'm just moderatly paranoid, especially with watching X Files with the government secrets and the state of the government now a days. Anyways, I'm excited about a new movie, and I did like the first one, cause of the killer bees which related to the bees from other seasons. I didn't start watching until eigth season, probably because I was too young before that. I couldn't watch avidly, though, until season nine, and I had no idea who Mulder was, and I thought Doggett was cool, then I saw Mulder, who is, accoring to his own words, "The sex magnet with all the chicks", and I had to watch everything I missed, because I realized on how much I was missing out. Not just because of Mulder, though, cause you can't watch season nine, and not watch everything before that. Not happening!

I have all the dvds but still enjoy watching the Files on Sci-fi, as I am now. Please don't get my hopes up if it's not to be. I've hoped for a second movie for years. When the final
season ended I felt like a close friend died.
