The other day I had something pretty shocking happen to me. Literally. I got a bad shock in the bathroom. I touched the light switch with wet hands and got a pretty good zap. (I'm OK, thanks!)
And you know what I blame for the electric shock? The recent stock market losses.
I bring this up because of Marie Osmond's explanation as to why she fainted on Dancing with the Stars the other night.
Osmond says that she has allergies and that the horrible fires going on in California right now caused her to faint and hit her head. Isn't it enough that she's been dancing a lot? Couldn't she just use that as the reason? I'm sure that takes a lot out of you. Or how about that she's been on some diet (didn't I see a preview of The Insider or Access Hollywood that showed her eating celery?) that made her lose 20 pounds? Or maybe the stress from her marriage ending, or the anxiety that she gets performing live (she has spoken about this before)?
I can empathize with anyone who has allergies or is affected by their environment, but it's kind of an odd thing for a celebrity on a reality show to blame a natural disaster that has cost billions of dollars and destroyed hundreds of homes for a fainting spell.

It's very possible that the smoke from the fires was bothering her allergies.
I have bad allergies and even smoke from a candle causes me to get all stuffed up and feel like I can barely breathe.

My DVR somehow missed picking up last week's "Cane". I blame the six-party talks over North Korean disarmament.

I find it offensive that she would so cavalierly blame her little boo-boo on the destructive, deadly fires out there. But then, I offend easily. I blame O.J. Simpson and the 1969 lunar landing for that.

For crying out loud. She didn't say that caused her to faint. She was throwing out lots of possibilities because she really doesn't know why it happened. Way to blow something out of proportion.

Ok put yourself in her place. She blacked out in front of MILLIONS of viewers, came to, and had absolutely no idea what happened. I don't know about you, but mortified would be the word I would use to describe how I would feel. Then to top it off media coverage asking her what the heck happened like she's a doctor and she knows. What did you want her to say? I fell on my ass and I'm a lot older than some of these people who are training me like I'm going to the Olympics? For all you know she could just be repeating what her doctor hypothesized.

the air quality down here in so cal has been horrible. this doesn't surprise me at all. the sky looks orange/brown/light blue. you can smell the ash and everything. my allergies and my chest has been congested all week. :(
but marie osmond is kind of nuts. so i think it's a combo of all the above. :)

"I fell on my ass and I'm a lot older than some of these people who are training me like I'm going to the Olympics?"
Add in something about her sudden weight loss to ensure she looked good in front of those MILLIONS of people, and then you'd be very close to what she should have said. Or she could have simply said "I'm a washed up 70's act who has been clinging onto the fringes of fame for the past few decades and I'm currently on a show about rich people learning how to dance so why does anyone care why I fainted after a few minutes of physically exhaustive activity?" That'd be acceptable too. Or she can just blame the wildfires and global warming and evil abortion clinic doctors and whatever else she could conjure up in the pretty little head of hers.

Actually I can blame the fires on missing all programs on Monday and Tuesday. I live in San Diego and we've had nothing but wall to wall fire coverage, so my DVR attempted to record HIMYM, Chuck, the Unit and others, only to get shots of Larry Himmel (reporter for CBS 8 San Diego) doing a report from his driveway with his smoldering house in the background. Crazy stuff.

The person writing this article is not a journalist as he is "spinning" what she said. She SAID that through the years when she gets overwhelmed or excited she forgets to breath, PLUS the air quality right now is terrible. It is, isn't it? Trust me, people, Marie is NOT cavalier about anything that harms people. To the person that says they haven't seen her for years, where do you live at Mars? Plus she looks just like a slightly older version of what she has always looked like? Sometimes people can be so catty and jealous? I am just glad to remind myself that a very very very small portion of people come onto message boards and that is why everywhere I go, people are talking about her on the show (before and after the fainting) and are loving her. Oh brother, haven't seen her for years??? She is on tv and in magazines all of the time!!!!!!!!

Post 12 is correct. Marie did not say the fires caused her to faint. She said that when she gets excited she forgets to breathe, and the air quality IS terrible out here.
Post 4, she was NOT being cavelier about ANYTHING! Some of you posters are really offensive, especially post 11. Post 9, that picture is exactly what Marie looks like now.

All those who are thyroid patients and are on thyroid hormone replacement need to pay more attention to the level of their physical activities, such as Marie. She's a mom, owns a business, in the middle of a divorce, dancing, dieting, etc, etc, tons of stress to the old body, and she's burning up her thyroid meds a little faster than normal, stressing out the adrenals glands and boom down she went. Marie, more T4/T3, lots of unrefined sea salt and lots of Vit. C Marie. No question she went hypoglycemic, and lights out......

This is very possible. I live in Florida. The fires create intense smoke for miles much less like the horrible fires in California right now. Just going to my car affects my breathing and shortness of breath the rest of the day. Weak lungs and a tendency to be sensitive could very well affect her along with so much activity. Maybe not alone but I know what she means. Takes something out of you.
