CBS wants to see where a few of its under-performing shows are going before deciding their fate. The network ordered four more scripts for both Moonlight and Cane. Moonlight, a series about vampires in Los Angeles, is the net's lowest-rated show on Friday nights (it's in the 10 pm time slot). And Cane is ranked 8th on Tuesday nights. While I can't say much about Cane, I can say that I was mighty disappointed in Moonlight. I'm a big fan of Jason Dohring from Veronica Mars, but I found him horribly miscast as "the oldest vampire in LA" (or maybe he'll always be Logan Echolls to me).
We Squadders were having a little discussion on e-mail recently about Moonlight and, while a handful of us do not like the series at all, there are a few people who do. It seems that the allure is Alex O'Loughlin. But, can one hot guy keep the series alive when the story and dialogue are seriously lacking? Only time will tell, but I'm not betting on Moonlight to stick around for much longer.

Anna - I disagree with your assessment of Jason Dohring playing Josef. I didn't watch Veronica Mars, so don't have any prior acquaintance with the actor, but he seems remarkably self-possessed and confident in his portrayal, which is desirable when playing someone 400+ years old.
I'm glad there are at least some contributors to TVS who are willing to give this series a shot. While I wasn't impressed with ML's premier, the following episodes have improves and are becoming as good as most anything else out there. Moonlight's writing may not have found its center as yet, but there are several other series more deserving of your excessive criticism. In fact, one TVS writer said of Supernatural 's "Bad Day At Black Rock," It's all very reminiscent of Angel needing the Axis Of Pythia and fighting with Gwen to get it, which is a good thing I think. If you are going to echo plots from another show, Angel is a good one to work with." Apparently its very selective which series - in TVSquad's eyes - gets to emulate another with impunity.
That the majority of Tvsquad writers continue to single out Moonlight as its verbal-assault-dummy is redundant, unoriginal, and excessively one-note. It's your job to critique, but please, can we move on?

I couldn't believe how I didn't like Logan at all in this show, I thought he could pull off the brashness, and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that it's the writing since the rest of the show is painful, but my least favorite character was bland, blonde reporter. I guess I can go back to Angel reruns for the real deal.

I am grateful CBS is giving Moonlight a chance! I really feel this show gets better every week as the writers and cast get in stride. When I first saw Jason Dohring I didn't like his character but after reviewing the episodes and seeing him develop in more of them, I think he is doing very well subtly playing the wise but looks 30 advisory role.

I couldn't disagree more. Moonlight is a great show that just keeps getting better. It has an outstanding, well-selected cast. Jason is perfect as Josef and the entire cast plays off each other so well. It's a lot more than "one hot guy." The acting is superb, the chemistry is sizzling, and it perfectly mixes drama and wit.
Also, Moonlight's ratings this week showed an increase, according to CBS. It's number one in adults 25-54, tied for first in adults 18-49, and second in households. So I hope I'll be watching Moonlight every Friday at 9pm for a long time to come.

With comments like that, it makes me wonder if you really watched more than the pilot episode. I love the show and despite your dislike of it, their are alot of us that hope Moonlight is around for many seasons to come.

I must also disagree with your assessment of this show. Moonlight is the best show to come to television in a long time. No angsty teenagers, no demon of the week stories (a la Buffy, Angel, Charmed and the like).
Moonlight has gotten better and better with each airing, and I look forward to its continued growth and success.

I really like CANE but I think CBS doesn't have a chance making a show work in the Tuesday 10pm timeslot. More episodes are not going to draw new viewers, a new night will. I have read that the order for additional episodes had less to do with giving the shows a chance and more to do with CBS keeping an extra supply of fresh eps in case of the writers strike.

I'm glad to hear this. I knew neither series was doing very well in the ratings, so I'm both surprised and pleased they are getting a little more time. Seems like most of the comments so far have been from the ladies, but I'm a guy and I'm a fan of Moonlight, but mainly because I like vampire-themed series (thought, oddly, I never watched Angel, which everyone always said was great). But, at the risk of showing my age, I will admit to being a fan of Dark Shadows, probably the cheesiest ( and lowest budget) vampire series ever. I also watched the complete run of Forever Knight a couple of times. Yeah, I like vampires!
I also really like Cane, I'm dissappointed it's not doing well. Monday's show was great-Spoilers-
though obviously Alex wasn't going down for the hit on Quinones, I thought it was still a tense episode. I hope more people will tune in.

I'm disappointed that Cane isn't performing as well as I expected it to. I think it has all the potential to be a toned down network version of "The Sopranos" if it stays on. The show is loaded with terrific actors and actresses and talk about eye candy, whoa. I could do without the shameless musical guest promotion that seems to happen each week but at least most the guests have been pertinent to the story line and it isn't that much different that "The Sopranos" showing some nudity at Bada Bing each week the same way.
I think if CBS gives them enough time it will turn into another classic family driven epic like "Dallas" or "Dynasty".

Moonlight is the best new show of the fall season and I think that "Fever" was an awesome episode! I have watched it several times this week. Each week the episodes get better!
I am very glad to hear CBS has ordered more scripts and keep hoping for a pickup of the full season. The show is doing well and is increasing its viewer base. Moonlight has mystery, suspense, drama, romance, fantasy, witty dialogue, solid characters and humor. It is the best new show I have watched in a long time and I am anxiously awaiting each new episode.
It is a refreshing change from the standard detective shows and the chemistry between the cast members is phenomenal! Gorgeous Alex O'Loughlin does an excellent job in the portrayal of Mick St. John and beautiful Sophia Myles is perfect for her role. Mick also has a best friend named Josef, who is an old vampire, that has very different views on humans. Jason Dohring plays Josef and is a real plus to the show. Jason's delivery of Josef's witty, sarcastic comments is great.
I also really like the voice over narratives done by Mick; they really add to the overall feel of the series and helps the viewer to delve a little deeper into Mick St. John's life.
I am hoping that Mick and Beth do connect soon. I like how fast the relationship is moving between the two as this will allow for new intriguing storylines while they get to know each other and deal with the complexities of each others lives.
Bottom line is that I believe if the viewers start watching this show, then they will be hooked as well!

Moonlight is screwed. Friday night shows usually have a weak fate. Cane! Cane better stick around or I will be pissed. Switch it to another night, whatever. It's cool and refreshing.

I was anxiously awaiting the start of Moonlight and have been nothing but disappointed. The two actors in the lead roles are abysmal. Alex O'Loughlin spends more time showing off his pecs than acting and the blond lead is bland at best. (Sophia Myles?). As far as the "oldest vampire" goes, he's about as threatening as a poodle!! The acting and writing are at best....mediocre.

RE: CANE
This is a fantastic show and I hope CBS gives it more of a chance. The acting is just, well, great acting by ALL the characters. The episode from this past Tuesday night Oct.23 was the most interesting yet. The guy who plays SANTO deserves an EMMY! I TIVO'd this episode and watched it twice!!!! GREAT SH OW - I hope everyone tunes in. Jimmy SMits is the best!!!

Count me in the Moonlight is Crap camp. I was really hoping it would be great. Sadly - it just keeps sucking. And not in that good way. I can't believe they are giving it more of a chance. Cancel it now and Free Jason Dohring!

my question, and it is simple really, is why anyone would listen to a review by a person who quotes the wrong time a show airs? Hello...basic and simple research that can be completed at TVGuide.com, or by scrolling through the tv listings on just about any tv. If she can't even do that much research, then her opinion is irrelevant.
Paragraph one, it is NOT on at 10pm. So, if the basics of time are beyond this person, then I am guessing plot, story arcs, characterization and writing are something that wouldn't be recognized if they bit her.
Oh, and as far as betting on whether or not something will stick around, i agree with you. Moonlight will definitely NOT stick around...at 10pm on Fridays. But I think it's chances at 9pm are looking pretty good.

Anna. So I guess you want your name removed from the Moonlight fanlisting?
Sorry you feel the way that you do about Moonlight. Obviously you care about Jason Dohring and the character he plays, Josef. Soon there will be episodes centered around him.
One last thing. As far as betting that Moonlight won't be around much longer? You're on!

I think Moonlight is terrific! I haven't seen such chemistry between two people (Mick & Beth) since Catherine and Vincent (Beauty and the Beast). The show has adventure, romance, humor, good storylines, and (oh, yeah!) vampires. I hope this show continues for a very long time.

My husband and I both watch Moonlight, and we really like it. Sure hope it stays on. We like the fact that Mick and Beth finally have sparks flying. Go Beth !!!! Although, we feel that Beth should be turned by Mick, before any other vamp turns her, seems that would be inevitable and very cool. He needs a life mate, not a girlfriend. Now, that would make things very interesting indeed.
