Some interesting news coming out of ABC today, one of which is a surprise, the other of which isn't:First the non-surprise: Both TV Week and Kristin Dos Santos at E! Online are reporting that Pushing Daisies has been picked up for the rest of the season. That means 22 episodes of non-contact cuteness from Ned and Chuck. Ratings for the first three episodes have been solid, and -- at least based on the fun third episode -- worries about how the show might operate with budget restrictions have been so far unfounded.
The surprising ABC news: The former Ms. Veitch is also reporting that three more scripts have been ordered for Bruce McCulloch's Carpoolers, bringing the total order to 12 episodes. Despite the pedigree, the show hasn't been all that impressive so far either in quality or in the ratings. This makes me wonder if ABC is ordering more scripts in case there's a writers' strike.

I'm a little surprised by Pushing Daisies just because the ratings have dropped 33% in three weeks. I have a feeling it will be a one season show that the last 6 episodes will be thrown out in the summer.

Glad on both fronts. I've been pleasantly surprised with Carpoolers, it's turned out to be more than just another middle-aged-man-has-floundering-marriage-rife-with-communication-issues. It's got this strange, almost surreal gloss to it that makes it a treat for those of us with highly dysfunctional humour tastes.

Great news both ways. Pushing Daisies is a show I don't think will last more the one or two seasons, but it doesn't need to. It's a great show.
And carpoolers has made me laugh consistently for the first three episode. The Come on Eileen bit using Onstar to get the right lyrics? That was great.

I don't get the dislike of Carpoolers. I think it's a pretty funny show. In a similar vein, while The Big Bang Theory is primarily absurdly stereotypical geeks jokes, I still find myself laughing despite being a non-stereotypical geek.

Yeah for Daisies, it's great to see the support there! And I don't get the appeal of Carpoolers but then again, how many seasons was According to Jim on?

According to Jim will be entering it's 7th season I think in the spring. It was canceled and then came back because ABC hates us.

When I first read the Daisies concept I found it charming and interesting. I thought, however, that it could be a difficult format to sustain beyond the first two or three episodes. After viewing the first episode I loved it but I knew that it couldn't last. Over the last three episodes the sweet concept has become, predictably, tiresome. As a result, the 33% drop off is not surprising. Although the word is that it has been picked up for the full season, I doubt that it will hold up that long, let alone be picked up for another season.

I thought PD had a drop of 30 something percent, but I was wrong. It was ONLY a drop of 26% in three episodes.

My feeling is that Carpoolers has a crappy lead-in from the Cavemen thing. On its own, it's pretty good. Maybe they'll let it break free to see if it can capture a real audience.

I for one am very happy to see that "Pushing Dasies" is getting a full season. It shows that ABC is behind this quirky show. Let's hope now that they pick it up for a second season, hate to have a great cliff-hanger season finale that never gets resolved.

Pushing Daisies' pickup was a no-brainer. It's one of the few good new series of a lackluster fall. Though I'm still not 100% sure that it has the legs to last multiple seasons. It needs to keep that "Avengers" vibe going.
Of what I've seen of Carpoolers, it's not bad compared to some other comedies that on the tube right now. ABC should give it a chance.

Now all ABC needs to do is pickup Dirty Sexy Money for a full season order, even if they move it to the Big Shots time slot, its a great show.

I'm glad ABC is putting some faith into Carpoolers. I really like it - which kind of surprised me. Considering that Cavemen is the lead-in, I think it's done quite well.
I love the older son still living at home; and seeing only the legs and feet of the black guy's wife is a hoot - even at the party.

I've watched Pushing Daisies so far, and I've tried to like it, but it's just too far out there for me. I like more 'mainstream' humor ( is that the right term?) I'm really enjoying The Big Bang Theory and How I met your Mother. I am glad to see Daisies got the season order, though, because a lot of folks on this and other boards have said that they're really liking it. It's nice to see the network keeping something people like, for a change. I still don't get why they cancelled The Class last season, there was a lot of interest in it, too, but they canned it. Who knows how they think anyway.

I'm glad about PD also! Love that show - and we really haven't gotten into Chuck's aunts or the Chenoweth character that much yet. You don't cast Swoozie Kurts to sit on a couch wearing an eye-patch. There's lots of good stuff to come.
Oreo:
The PD premiere was watched by something like 23 million viewers. Those are American Idol-like ratings. No one expected it to maintain that audience level. A one -third drop means that now about 16 million viewers watch. Not too shabby. When initial ratings for the premiere are so through-the-roof, losing a third of its audience sounds a lot worse than it is - and it's pretty much expected.
This is what's posted on The Futon Critic about PD ratings for last week:
ABCs "Pushing Daisies" Wins its Third Consecutive Week Across Key Adults, Outpacing its Closest Competition in Wednesdays 8pm Hour by 19% in Adults 18-49
$$ka-ching, ka-ching$$
I think there was a huge curiosity factor for PD's premiere which blew the ratings through the roof. Now that they've settled down to "normal" the show is still a big hit. And most importantly it's a hit in the most lucrative demographic for the network.

I'm really glad for Pushing Daisies. It's a fantastic show that has such a unique and different feel to it, I love it. The casting on that show has been spot on. I love the visual style of the show and the dialogue is great but my only concern is, are they spending TOO much money on the special effects. I realize it's part of what makes the show so unique, but I wouldn't mind seeing more scenes in the Pie Hole that were purely dialogue driven and less scenes with fancy effects.
Carpoolers is getting a meeeh from me. It's not bad but it could be better. It's got a great premise but there's just something missing... that ... IT thing, you know?
