According to this AOL article, Stephen Colbert has picked a running mate for his "presidential run". In keeping with his presidential theme of the ludicrous, the person in question is Senator Larry Craig, who is being investigated for a sex scandal in an airport men's room. The concept of a celebrity running a fake campaign for public office is nothing new. Howard Stern did a brief run for governor a few years ago. Ronald Reagan, a former actor, became president and Fred Thompson seems to be trying to follow in his footsteps.
Admittedly, it's great publicity for Colbert. One could argue that he doesn't need the additional promotion but it's nice to have the occasional shocker like this one to prevent treading towards the road to obscurity (although I personally don't think that would be a problem for Colbert for a generation).
Or maybe he's just doing it for fun.

The article you are linking to actually says: "Comedian Stephen Colbert insisted on Sunday that his ambition to run for president was no joke and said he was considering Republican Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho as a vice presidential running mate." He didn't announce his running mate.

What is there to investigate? He pleaded guilty months ago. He also came out and said that he didn't have sex with boys in 1982, which means that he did have sex with boys in 1982.

Oreo, it could also mean that he DIDN'T have sex with boys in 1982 (maybe his puppy died and he wasn't up to it) but did in 1981, 1983, 1984, etc, etc.
And he DID plead guilty but now he's trying to un-plead guilty. He just has happy feet! But that's where the happiness stops.

Howard Stern was REALLY running. He filed and everything. The ONLY reason he dropped out was they were going to make him turn over all personal financial data, and he was simply not going to do that. So he officially dropped out and threw his support to Pataki.
I was AT the Libertarian convention in Albany when he got the nomination. It was real.

He should have picked Admiral Jim Stockdale, who was Ross Perot's VP candidate.
He was a fine man who served our country, but was a terrible candidate. Who could ever forget his debate performance, "Who am I? Why am I here?"

Are Reagan and Thompson's campaigns fake now?

Stockdale died in 2005.
It's too bad Colbert is picking Sen. Craig as a running-mate. I thought he would have gotten a lot of votes otherwise.

"Considering" is not the same as "confirming". Typical corporate media spin, if the news isn't interesting enough, just make up sh*t !

It was pretty clear on his appearance at Meet the Press, which the AOL article is based on, that the mention of Larry Craig as his running mate was a joke (a joke within a joke, what tangled webs Colbert weaves).

Joey: thus my first comment.
Brad: could you change the headline of your article to be: "Colbert Announces Running Mate - PSYCH!" or..."Colbert Announces Running Mate-not really, actually...uh - nevermind"
That would be a little more accurate.

ehh. Bad choice. Not even that funny. A good running mate can be the "butt" of amazing abuse. How about Kevin Federline?

Has Colbert chosen another South Carolina Favorite Son as his running mate?
