Desperate Housewives: If There's Anything I Can't Stand

Desperate Housewives
(S04E04) "I hope we can live up to your stereotypes." - Lee to Susan.

This week's episode marked the arrival of Desperate Housewives' first official gay adult couple. Bob and Lee didn't have a major impact on the Wisteria Lane residents yet but they sure made Susan go out of her ways to be liked!

Susan

It seems that Susan will never learn. The woman must be liked by everyone and is willing to do stupid things anything in order to reach her goal. I was a little surprised at her reaction when meeting Bob and Lee. Isn't she the same Susan who caught Andrew and Justin making out in the pool? Therefore, she knows a bit more about homosexuals than what cable airs. But then again, having watched Susan put her foot in her mouth countless of times over the years, her reaction also doesn't surprise me. After clumsily introducing herself to Bob and Lee, Susan continues to dig herself a grave by telling them she "gets it" thanks to cable and that "you folks can't have kids," by giving them warmed up store-bought cookies that may kill Lee, and by keeping Raphael (who was first named Mr. Barkley in previous script versions) in the garage while searching for him with Lee. Even if the last mistake will cost the Delfinos $2,000, I doubt that Susan will learn. It's pretty much a given that Susan will try to be liked by Bob and Lee in the future.

Lynette/Brandi/Candi

Desperate HousewivesLynette got a wake up call thanks to her ripped wig. If it hadn't been from the wig itching her while trying to have sex with Tom, I'm sure that he wouldn't have found the courage to eventually tell his wife that she never asked him how he felt throughout this cancer ordeal. I think Lynette was a bit hard on herself when saying that she was the "cancer bitch" and "one of those whiny self involved sick people." This storyline highlighted how it is important to not forget the spouse (and kids) supporting the person with cancer. Tom and Lynette got their groove back thanks to Brandi and Candi, but, ultimately, Lynette won back Tom's heart and mojo.

Crabs

How funny was it to hear Edie list all the bullets she's been trying to dodge for years? It definitely shows the type of life she lived before. Although, she forgot one: pregnancy. Even if Edie has a kid, we know that it's a bullet she's been dodging since her son was born. Edie got crabs and, since she's only been with Carlos in months, I tend to believe her when she says that she got it from the tanning salon. After learning the news from Carlos, Gaby taps into her creativity to find a way to give Victor the treatment for crabs. Even if watching Gaby has the nurse applying the stinky cream on Victor was mildly amusing, wouldn't it have been easier for Gabrielle to tell Victor that she got crabs from the tanning bed and that he may be infected? Gaby was able to treat Victor without him knowing but his new "cologne" raised suspicions in Edie's mind. Somehow, I don't think that this new discovery will have Edie cancel off the fake engagement. I think she may use the affair to torture Carlos a bit more. "You wouldn't want Mr. Mayor to know of the affair, right Carlos? So buy me a bigger engagement ring." If and when Carlos breaks up with her, I'm pretty sure she'll run to Victor and spill the beans.

Lillian

Even though Lillian Sims only appeared in this episode (although she could return for flashbacks), she made quite an impact on the Mayfairs. This old woman may be on her death bed but she hasn't lost her memory and is ready to tell Dylan the truth at all cost. Sadly, since she can't leave her bed, there isn't much she can do. Dylan eventually comes upstairs and Lillian begins telling her that there is a reason why she lost her memory. But Katherine interrupts them. Lillian's days are counted and may be shorten by Katherine who wants to keep the truth hidden. I wonder if Lillian died of natural causes or if Katherine had something to do with it. We have to give it to the women, Lillian find a way to get her message out there. Thing is, will Dylan be the one getting her hands on that piece of paper? I sure can't wait to see what Lillian scribbled before giving her last breath and going to heaven (or hell) with a clear conscience.

Andrew

Desperate Housewives Andrew warned Bree that he wouldn't take part in the fake pregnancy lies anymore. This week, he showed her what he was capable of (although he showed us what he is capable of in the past three seasons!). Andrew seized the moment and helped the ladies throw a shower for Bree, thus putting her on the spot. Not only did he help plan but he invited Phyllis! Mwhahaha Andrew must have some tiny horns. He truly is his mother's son because what he did was 100% Bree-like. Thanks to his grandmother's behavior, Andrew's punishment (you can bet Bree won't let this go) was put on hold for a few hours. I hope we see the aftermath of this. Andrew and Bree are so fun to watch argue!

Phyllis

Desperate HousewivesNo wonder Bree and Phyllis never saw eye to eye, they are way too alike! Even if Phyllis is a tad saner and is less Martha Stewart-y, she still has a neurotic side. Since Bree started to pretend to be pregnant, I envisioned how different people could learn of the subterfuge and how they would react to it. I never thought Phyllis would be the one making the discovery. Her reaction and the Rex-centered face off that followed were long coming. Bree and Phyllis had never talked that truthfully before. I'm not sure Phyllis decided to say "I'm leaving" instead of spilling the beans because she wanted a second chance. I think, as she changed her mind, that she was thinking of what her next move would be (as in taking Danielle away from the convent). I wonder if she plans on bringing Danielle back to Bree's home or if she will have Danielle stay with her (Phyllis) for a while. We can surely expect another Bree/Phyllis showdown in the near future!

Did Lillian die of natural causes?
