(S04E04) "I hope we can live up to your stereotypes." - Lee to Susan.
This week's episode marked the arrival of Desperate Housewives' first official gay adult couple. Bob and Lee didn't have a major impact on the Wisteria Lane residents yet but they sure made Susan go out of her ways to be liked!
Susan
It seems that Susan will never learn. The woman must be liked by everyone and is willing to do stupid things anything in order to reach her goal. I was a little surprised at her reaction when meeting Bob and Lee. Isn't she the same Susan who caught Andrew and Justin making out in the pool? Therefore, she knows a bit more about homosexuals than what cable airs. But then again, having watched Susan put her foot in her mouth countless of times over the years, her reaction also doesn't surprise me. After clumsily introducing herself to Bob and Lee, Susan continues to dig herself a grave by telling them she "gets it" thanks to cable and that "you folks can't have kids," by giving them warmed up store-bought cookies that may kill Lee, and by keeping Raphael (who was first named Mr. Barkley in previous script versions) in the garage while searching for him with Lee. Even if the last mistake will cost the Delfinos $2,000, I doubt that Susan will learn. It's pretty much a given that Susan will try to be liked by Bob and Lee in the future.
Lynette/Brandi/Candi
Lynette got a wake up call thanks to her ripped wig. If it hadn't been from the wig itching her while trying to have sex with Tom, I'm sure that he wouldn't have found the courage to eventually tell his wife that she never asked him how he felt throughout this cancer ordeal. I think Lynette was a bit hard on herself when saying that she was the "cancer bitch" and "one of those whiny self involved sick people." This storyline highlighted how it is important to not forget the spouse (and kids) supporting the person with cancer. Tom and Lynette got their groove back thanks to Brandi and Candi, but, ultimately, Lynette won back Tom's heart and mojo.Crabs
How funny was it to hear Edie list all the bullets she's been trying to dodge for years? It definitely shows the type of life she lived before. Although, she forgot one: pregnancy. Even if Edie has a kid, we know that it's a bullet she's been dodging since her son was born. Edie got crabs and, since she's only been with Carlos in months, I tend to believe her when she says that she got it from the tanning salon. After learning the news from Carlos, Gaby taps into her creativity to find a way to give Victor the treatment for crabs. Even if watching Gaby has the nurse applying the stinky cream on Victor was mildly amusing, wouldn't it have been easier for Gabrielle to tell Victor that she got crabs from the tanning bed and that he may be infected? Gaby was able to treat Victor without him knowing but his new "cologne" raised suspicions in Edie's mind. Somehow, I don't think that this new discovery will have Edie cancel off the fake engagement. I think she may use the affair to torture Carlos a bit more. "You wouldn't want Mr. Mayor to know of the affair, right Carlos? So buy me a bigger engagement ring." If and when Carlos breaks up with her, I'm pretty sure she'll run to Victor and spill the beans.
Lillian
Even though Lillian Sims only appeared in this episode (although she could return for flashbacks), she made quite an impact on the Mayfairs. This old woman may be on her death bed but she hasn't lost her memory and is ready to tell Dylan the truth at all cost. Sadly, since she can't leave her bed, there isn't much she can do. Dylan eventually comes upstairs and Lillian begins telling her that there is a reason why she lost her memory. But Katherine interrupts them. Lillian's days are counted and may be shorten by Katherine who wants to keep the truth hidden. I wonder if Lillian died of natural causes or if Katherine had something to do with it. We have to give it to the women, Lillian find a way to get her message out there. Thing is, will Dylan be the one getting her hands on that piece of paper? I sure can't wait to see what Lillian scribbled before giving her last breath and going to heaven (or hell) with a clear conscience.
Andrew
Andrew warned Bree that he wouldn't take part in the fake pregnancy lies anymore. This week, he showed her what he was capable of (although he showed us what he is capable of in the past three seasons!). Andrew seized the moment and helped the ladies throw a shower for Bree, thus putting her on the spot. Not only did he help plan but he invited Phyllis! Mwhahaha Andrew must have some tiny horns. He truly is his mother's son because what he did was 100% Bree-like. Thanks to his grandmother's behavior, Andrew's punishment (you can bet Bree won't let this go) was put on hold for a few hours. I hope we see the aftermath of this. Andrew and Bree are so fun to watch argue!Phyllis
No wonder Bree and Phyllis never saw eye to eye, they are way too alike! Even if Phyllis is a tad saner and is less Martha Stewart-y, she still has a neurotic side. Since Bree started to pretend to be pregnant, I envisioned how different people could learn of the subterfuge and how they would react to it. I never thought Phyllis would be the one making the discovery. Her reaction and the Rex-centered face off that followed were long coming. Bree and Phyllis had never talked that truthfully before. I'm not sure Phyllis decided to say "I'm leaving" instead of spilling the beans because she wanted a second chance. I think, as she changed her mind, that she was thinking of what her next move would be (as in taking Danielle away from the convent). I wonder if she plans on bringing Danielle back to Bree's home or if she will have Danielle stay with her (Phyllis) for a while. We can surely expect another Bree/Phyllis showdown in the near future!

Susan is really starting to get on my nerves. I don't know how much more I can take of her being a dumb-ass.

I'm not looking forward to Phyllis entering the picture. I'm as annoyed as Bree is with her. We need Orson to run her over with his car.
Gay couple? Really? Can we say "cliche"? I guess we can expect Marc Cherry's personal stories to be tied into these plotlines. Good grief.

Why is a gay couple a cliché? Seems to me that the cliché is either a heterosexual couple (I think there are what, like, 11 of those on TV, maybe more) or a single gay men trying to find the right guy(s). You very seldom see committed gay couples on TV, except as the friends of the single gay man trying to find the right guy. Of course, this being Wisteria Lane, I am sure that they probably secretly kill puppies.

All Stupid Susan had to do was tell Lee she found his dog and put it in her garage because she was afraid it might get out again if she tied it up. uuugggghhhh
Although the outcome of a painted suit was better than the assumption I had made. I thought the dog was going to eat the paint and die.
Your excuse for Gaby was so much more plausible but then the wouldn't have had an excuse to put her in her underwear again. What kind of hell is Evil Edie going to lay on Carlos?
Oh and Lynette is not just a cancer bitch. She's a full time bitch.
I love Bree, Orson and Andrew.

Yeah I agree with edgore. How is having a gay couple a cliche? There's a lot of things in Wisteria Lane that is cliche, but that? Not so much.
Oh and Susan has always been such a loser. She's so dumb.

you know, i dont know how much i believe that Edie got crabs from a tanning bed. as much as she wants Carlos, she still isnt a one-man type of girl. also, i think there is a huge chance that Victor could be cheating. he married Gaby for his career, not for love. he could be humping prostitutes in dirty hotels. he could have been the one to start the crabs cycle. no matter how career minded he is, everyone has a downfall.
poor Lillian. she got starved to death. thats so sad. even though i am itching to know who finds the note, i can just about predict the outcome of it, and it involves another moving van and ambulance.

I am sick of Susan although I used to like her. Can't wait for something real from Tuc Watkins - he is truly funny. As for the Lynette/Tom storyline, it's actually a pretty real life story. I kind of felt like Tom was being a bit of a dog about Brandi, but I really got the sense that they are a couple who meant "in sickness and in health"....

I agree with how stupid Susan was in this episode! When watching it I am sure like me everyone guessed there would be disaster from the dog being locked in the garage. After "helping" him search for the dog she could not have then said she had found it and locked it in the garage (like a previous poster suggested) but Susan could have just acted dumb (not very hard) and just lied saying the dog must have ran in there when we had the garage door up and got locked in! Sorry but keep the dog tied from now on -- no way I pay $2000 for a suit not to mention the cost for the paint all over the garage that had to be cleaned up because your dog got loose.
As for Gabby....man was she hot in that nurses outfit!!!!!!!!! (I agree with another poster in that perhaps the crabs came from another and given to her through their little foursome). There problem I have with this story is: 1) why did Carlos, Gabby, or Victor not know they had them (where there not signs); and 2) this guy Victor is rich, a mayor, and wanting to run for Governor yet he does not shower good enough to take that medicine smell off him (come on?).
Why did Katherine even bring home the old lady? She is trying to keep a huge secret but brings in the house someone who knows the secret and whom might tell it. No way! And she died in what like 2-3 days after arriving? And Dylan is a teenager, but does not "sneak" back up there to find out what the old aunt was trying to tell her?
As I agree totally with what you said about Lynette (***"I think Lynette was a bit hard on herself when saying that she was the cancer bitch and one of those whiny self involved sick people") as I thought she was being sarcastic in here tone. I think someone going through her ordeal needs a little bit more compassion from the hubby! I also agree that it is important to not forget the spouse (and kids) supporting the person with cancer but this was a little over the top.
And Bree/Phyllis. I didn't think she would tell the secret so I was not surprised she made up something in her "speech". I did think it was interesting that she turned up at the convent -- so is she now wanting the baby for herself to have her "second chance"? And got to love those Andrew/Bree battles -- maybe he needs to be dropped off on the side of the road again?
And other than this 1 episode why have a new couple let lone a gay couple. Its obvious they want to keep to themselves, so what could they offer in a storyline? Don't we have enough going on with the characters we have without introducing more people!

Normally I laugh at Susan's antics, but this episode I just found her stupidly annoying. Seriously, get a grip.
The cliche in the gay couple? Lee was such a bitch. Ugh. I hope they're not so cliched as that.
The only bigger bitch might be Dana Delany's evil bitchness. She rocks.
Best line: "Which one (bullet)? The Clap? The Herp? The Syph?!"
