It's no secret that Jorja Fox, who plays Sara Sidle on CSI, is leaving the show this season. She has a contentious history with the show and was even temporarily fired during contract negotiations in 2004. But, why is she leaving?Fox gave a quick interview to EW.com, explaining her departure. She's leaving to broaden her horizons. The actress has been on CSI for seven years and is looking for something else to do. She says, "If I thought the show was on its last legs, I would've tried harder to stay the course. But I feel like it's going to be around for a while, so I don't want some of those dreams to pass me by."
In past posts I've written about CSI, a lot of commenters have bagged on the Sara Sidle character and wished she would go. The sexual relationship between her and Grissom makes a lot of people's skin crawl (mine included). Personally, I would've liked to have seen a more beloved character leave, but this is good too. CSI definitely needs a shake-up since it has had the same cast for all eight seasons.
Jorja Fox has five more episodes this season, with her final episode in mid-November during ratings. Producer Carol Mendelsohn says that those episodes will focus on Sara and build up to her departure. The build-up begins tonight, with a marriage proposal from Grissom.

Normally when actors leave series to "broaden" their careers without a project they end up not having a career for a long time - a decade or two sometimes (David Caruso comes to mind as a good example of this).
When they leave because they have done so many other projects on their time off that their series is getting in the way, such as George Clooney or Bruce Willis they do well.
Jorja Fox does have an impressive resume of work she has done but, aside from landing on another TV show in the next five years, which would be an accomplishment, doing anything more challenging than she already has is, perhaps, unlikely as she doesn't seem get more than a supporting role in most situations. So why leave, really?

The Sara/Grissom relationship doesn't bother me, I've just never liked her character and am glad to see her go. It's nothing personal against the actress, just the character and CSI could do with a bit of a change.

And then the CSI boss says Sara will come back...

I'm tired of this "she's quitting, she's not, she is but will come back, etc." routine. Can they finally make an official decision and have her gone from the show and not say that "she will come back"? It's getting ridicule plus they are playing with fan's emotions (those who like Sara that is).

I like Jorja Fox as an actress on CSI, but I think the producers dropped the ball w/ the whole miniature killer plotline in not making Sarah the killer.
She had the foster kid background & her involvement with Grissom and her working for CSI would have allowed for a great arcing plot for the first part of this year leading up to her departure.
The freaky disabled cleaning lady was just a cop-out for the killer.

Funny Petersen is suddenly ok with CSI Miami enough to steal a story line from them. At least Caine's wife was killed and it was done and over with. Just kill Electra off and end the latent pedophile story arc.
The producers on this show have a way of taking a story line with great potential and flushing down the toilet. Perhaps they were afraid that Fox could not handle such a complex story line as being the miniature killer. To me anything I have seen her in has been pretty much one note - usually sullen.

So glad she is going, and hope she stays gone. The Grissom-Sara romance was unbelievable at best, and in very poor taste at worst. I don't know why the producers and writers are so invested in keeping this "ship" afloat. I would like to believe that Jorja herself is leaving to sink it, but it's probably just the old story of inflated ego.
Won't miss Sara's bizarre vocal pattern and her dull affect. Unfortunately, she has wasted two years of Grissom's life and ours.

My prayers have been answered!
The less we see of Fox, the better. Her 'acting' was a joke, and the valley speak got really old, like, really fast. The whole Grissom-Sarah story line was dragging CSI down anyway.

Jorja Fox is the best thing about that show - if she leaves, ratings will go down. First she is extremely beautiful and talented! This is NOT good news for Jorja fans or for the show!
It's a sad day!

I'll miss Jorja on CSI, Sara was one of my favorite characters on the show (after Gris of course).
The Gris/Sara moments were enjoyable. Gris falling in love enhanced his relationships with his team. Watch a season one episode on his communication skils vs a current season episode, and you'll see what I'm referring to.
I preferred the Gris/Sara romance over anything that Catherine ever dredged up. (Oops, now I've spilled the beans on my LEAST favorite character.)

its unfortunate for the viewers that jorja has chosen to leave, particularly now when her character has started to soften and develop more as a person, still i can understand leaving after 8 years too. fortunately, it appears that she will drop in now and then.
the negative comments regarding jorja fox have been i find rather strange in that everyone says that they want to see interesting and realistic characters on tv but when we get one and its played so well by the actor it seems that the nay-sayers start to weasel out. personally, i think miss fox is very talented and quite attractive but in a way that can be identified with. i find it rather sad that its mostly women who have been bashing her as not being pretty enuf. do we really need more emptyheaded bimbos who are identified by the bra size?

I really don't think she will be missed that much and it is no big surprise that she would wanna reach out and explore other venues so in saying that GOod luck and also I don't see anything wrong with Grissom & her being an item but again she always seemed to play a complicated person some people are like that maybe that is what he finds attractive?

I think her leaving might not be the last original cast member leaving the show, both William Petersen's and Marg Helgenber's contract are up after this season and I read where Catherine will get involved with the building of a casino her father started, also did you hear her comment after Grissom warned her about turning evidence over to the press at the end of the 'Carp episode this past week; and with Grissom having the fascination with the beehive and studying it to see why all these bees are dying I see him maybe traveling the world to see where the problem is coming from...also did anyone else catch that Greg wants to write a book about the 'Rat Pack' days of Vegas and Lily was more than happy to help him...makes you wonder if the lab rats might become CSI's in the near future.

Sad as it looks, and apart form the dislike most people seem to feel for Jorja's character-mainly, and shared, about her relationship with Will's- i kind of share the same feeling about her leaving, adding to David Caruso's allusion, one quite older: Shelley Long after Cheers.

I, and several of my co-workers, love Jorja Fox and always have. She is great with William Peterson (and he's hot). I probably won't watch the show much anymore with her gone. It reminds me of ER. You get to love the show because of the characters and then they take them away one by one and then there's nothing left of the show. It's not the same anymore.
