After what he did the other night, don't espect Jimmy Kimmel to pop up on ESPN's Monday Night Football again.
The show has banned the late night talk show host after his appearance two nights ago. During the Giants/Falcons game, Kimmel suddenly said "I'd also like to welcome Joe Theismann, watching from his living room at home with steam coming out of his ears." Theissman was let go from the show before this season started. MNF producer Jay Rothman called what Kimmel said "classless and disappointing."
The video after the jump has the joke about Theismann, but Kimmel also asked if it was Tony Kornheiser who got Theismann fired and joked about Kornheiser and Ron Jaworski betting on games.

I heard that live and although I generally find Kimmel to be a very funny guy, I agree it was a low blow kind of joke. At the same time, I respect him for having the balls to say that on national tv.

Huh? First of all Kimmel is anything but funny and I haven never associated him in ANY way with having "class". Second, Kornheiser got Theisman fired? Kornheiser is a useless waste of space on MNF. He doesn't know anything and brings NOTHING to teh table.MIke Tirico, Ron Jaworski and Kornheiser are HARDLY ungrades for on air commentary. AT LEAST JAWs played the game, K-heiser barely knows what kind of grass it's played on.Tirico? Thats a "push" at best.

The one who ought to be banned is that bland Tony Kornheiser. He is corny to the max. The team doing mnf is second rate, not coming close to matching snf.

It was very tasteless. People come and go but to stick a knife into them on national tv and say the things he did is very sad day in football.

That joke was AWESOME. Theismann is the biggest suck-up ass-clown EVER allowed on television. He makes that no-talent butt-licker Joe Buck almost seem tolerable.

SNF crew is horrible. Madden is a senile old fool and Al couldn't spot a play, a foul or the ball if you gave him 3 chances. We end up screaming crap at the TV because the two old fools in the booth are too busy jerking off to whatever talking points they picked for the night.
As for the MNF crew. Tirico is decent. Jaws rules - although they've obviously told him to tone down giving viewers actual information that's related to the game. Korny sucks and they need to replace him with the knowledge and skill of Dick Vermeil.

I don't pay any attention to the crew "hosting" MNF these days; if the game is on the radio I'll turn down the TV and tune it in there. If not, I just ignore the commentators. Too bad Kimmel got sacked for a simple joke, regardless of taste.

What'd it take to get ESPN to broadcast Monday Night Football without sound at all?

Wait, so when he asked Theismann last year how his leg was doing, that was okay?
Good for Jimmy. Screw Monday Night Football and screw ESPN.

"Jimmy, we'd like you to do a guest appearance on Monday Night Football. One thing, though: Can you try not to be funny?"
Idiots. If they wanted someone who isn't funny, they should have invited Frank Caliendo.

I agree 100%, Jim. You don't hire a comedian to do sports commentary and then get mad when he makes a joke. It's just like when everyone got their knickers in a twist over Dennis Miller. "He makes too many jokes." "He keeps making pop culture references." Dumbass, that's who he is! That's what he does!

It's kind of a cheap shot at Theisman, but it's funny cuz it's likely true. Yes, asking about Kornheiser getting Joe fired was appropriate because when the announcing changes were made the speculation was that Theisman was let go since he and Kornheiser didn't have good chemisty in the booth. Also some attributed/speculated to a tension existing between the two from the past when Tony covered Joe and the Redskins for the Washington Post.
I feel ESPN made a mistake of breaking up their Sunday Night team when they switched to Monday Night. Mike Emrick, Theisman and Paul Maguire were competent and entertaining. I like Jaworski and his game analysis but Kornheiser's humor is weak and Tirico is just plain dull.

Good for Jimmy. I've stopped watching MNF entirely because I can't stand the guys in the booth. I never watched the old Sunday night games before they moved to Monday for the same reasons. Can't stand ANY of them...
I met Joe Theismann once not that long after he retired and he was the biggest dick I've ever met. I've met and had long conversations with a number of former NFL players and nearly all of them have been extremely cordial and fun to talk to but not Joe. He is just a self absorbed, arrogant prick and I'm glad he's gone - even if I don't watch MNF. Kornheiser is another guy I've never understood even having a sports related job. He isn't funny, he's boring and now that he's on TV he's even worse.
There was a time when my Monday night programming revolved around watching MNF and everything else got taped to watch later. Networks were terrified to put anything strong on Mondays because their shows would get trounced in the ratings. How times have changed... I watch or DVR a grand total of nine shows on Monday during prime time and NONE of them include football.
Give it up guys. You SUCK even worse than the Raiders!

geez man..these people take things way too seriously. it was a joke. its fine for these same announcers to mock players who don't get it done (theisman mocked jets qb chad pennington all game last year), but they just can't take it.

The "guest in the booth" during a football game is ludicrous. They allow a loose cannon like Jimmy Kimmel into the booth and then complain about the manner in which he acts and what he says.
Its ESPN's own fault. Cut out the crap and just broadcast the game. There are too many distractions. To me it should be about the game, nothing more. ESPN needs to stop the self serving BS!
