It's official: Conan moving to L.A.

There have been rumors swirling ever since Conan O'Brien was tapped by NBC to replace Jay Leno as host of The Tonight Show that O'Brien would be asked to move to L.A. from his current New York City home. And now it's been made official by NBC: Conan will move to L.A. when he takes over the show in 2009.
The network has big plans for the area. NBC is selling off part of its Burbank lot and Conan's show will beam to us from the renovated Studio One at Universal Studios.
Conan won't be alone at the new place. NBC is spending a lot of money on the complex, and across the street will be the new home for NBC News when they report out of L.A. as well as retail stores and many new homes.
Of course, this means no more Burbank for NBC! That's really sad, considering the legacy that Johnny Carson left there with The Tonight Show. Well, at least the new place, Studio One, was once home to The Jack Benny Show, so there will still be a classic TV connection.

All the people who talk about Conan not being funny are stupid and old. Jack Parr? I learned about him in history class, who cares? And Jay Leno is so not funny anymore, he was ok in the early 90's, but lately his jokes tend to tank. You guys are stuck in your old sense of humor and don't get what's funny nowadays. I have been a devoted Late Night fan from the start and I have tolerated watching Jay in order to watch Connan. We will be lucky to have Conan out here and now I won't have to stay up late to watch his show.

It is going to be so odd for him to be in LA and not NY in my opinion. Change is change. Conan still rocks!

I'm still holding out for my dream scenario ... CBS and Worldwide Pants conspire with Conan to find a way for Conan to break his contract with NBC, then take over the Ed Sullivan Theatre and "Late Night" for a retiring Dave... *sighs*

Even though I'm a west coaster, I was hoping they'd move the tonight show out East.

This is good, Leno will get to take his hotrods out and do burnouts and donuts in the parking lot outside every night!

I wonder what this means for Max Weinberg and the Max Weinberg 7. They're fairly rooted in NYC.

conan in la will be different, but if handled correctly by nbc it could be great. i guess they plan on putting jimmy fallon in 'late night' in nyc probably with max weinberg. maybe they could bring andy richter back to help the transition. heard jay leno would do an hour weekly, sundays?, prime time show with weekly monologue, skits and non talk guests. personally i would give the tonight show the 1135 to 1am slot. 85 minutes for three guests, more comics and the guest band palying two songs. and follow that at 1am with a new 'tomorrow show' from nyc! let jimmy fallon do something like chappelle and mencia did in prime time.

I knew it was going to happen, but I was hoping it wouldn't. Cupid and Conan moving to LA... Hollywood may be out west, but I have always liked NYC for late night. I always thought late night shows in NYC were more believable than shows in Cali.

Conan will take over for Leno and then Leno will be picked up by Fox and I will still get to watch him and not the idiot they call Dave or the boredom of Conan.

can't stand conan, and the day Jay leaves, is the day I stop watching the Tonight show............It just will NOT be the same anymore. What about the bands? I guess Conan's current band will no longer have jobs come transfer day. Oh well, who cares. Jay, I sure hate to see you go. Conan, you are by far NOT FUNNY. You are very boring.
