It might be a possibility after all. Despite enduring through weeks of abysmal ratings, Ausiello is reporting that FX may actually renew Damages for a full 13 episode second season.
For those of you that are scratching your heads, don't forget that this is the same network that plans to bring back Dirt after the new year. However, look at it this way -- Glenn Close along with Courtney Cox are the only two strong female leads currently in the FX original series line-up. So it's not surprising that FX brass would want to keep them around and develop their shows beyond one season.
I think the biggest question folks will have is how will Damages work in season two if this news does indeed come to fruition? On one side of the coin, it could focus on some new players and an entirely different case. On the other side, we get slapped with a giant cliffhanger this season (three episodes remain) and receive no closure to the Frobisher case and Ellen's jail predicament. I'm not sure either instance sounds that good to me.

please dont compare damages and dirt. i realize they both have poor ratings but dirt is one of the worst things on tv and damages, while frustrating, is really good.

I wanted this show to end after three or four epsiodes. Don't take that the wrong way -- I love it, but I can't wait for resolution.
I am curious to see how this season ends and how they would treat a possible second season.
Until The Shield comes back for its final season, this show and Mad Men are the best on TV -- totally character driven. (Sorry, Rescue Me -- you slipped big-time this year.)

I think they should resolve this story and start with something new next season.
I'm thrilled to hear that it may be getting renewed. I find this show simply compelling! Of course, I found "Kidnapped" to be the same, and I had to watch the second half of the season online, so what do I know.

I thought it was supposede to be 13 episodes only, and not becaus of rating but becaus they wantede it to be more like a mini-series.. they cant keep this show running for that long or it would be just to string people along!

Bartman --
13 episodes is the standard order for a season of a cable series. Sometimes you see 11 and sometimes you see 15, but 13 is the most common. So it wasn't because of mini-series plans. That's just the way it normally is.

I think Bartman may be referring to the similar stance that FX took last year with "Thief" (that was the name, right?). From what I recall, that series had 13 episodes and when it WASN'T picked up for a second go-around (or perhaps sometime slightly before then, when they could see that it wasn't going to go on), it was then billed as a mini-series. I'm pretty sure it was even nominated for some awards as a mini-series, which would imply that somewhere down the pipe they had to have claimed it to be one.

You're right and wrong. Thief was indeed a mini-series and Andre Braugher was nominated and won the Emmy for his role in it. However, it was billed as a mini-series from the beginning. It only had 6 episodes.

I actually like this show so I'm glad. It glues me to the TV for the whole hour. If only it was on Wednesday because Tuesdays are inconvienant for me.

I love "Damages" and I'm anxious to see how it all plays out, but I think it would have been more effective as a six-hour mini-series. Several of the episodes -- especially the ones with Patty's husband and son -- seemed like filler.

I love this show. It keeps my total attention. I am very much hoping it comes back next year with a new case. Was shocked at Ray's suicide, I really liked his character. I do find Ellen a little too strong for such a young person and somewhat reckless meeting with the SEC guy at night in such a lonely place especially with all the violence that has already occured.

How could a show this good get bad ratings? I mean, I'm glad that the mysteries will finally be reavealed in two weeks, but I'm really going to miss the show when it's over.
Maybe this show would have done better in the ratings if they had made it a winter show. People seem to want more mindless fluff in the summer months. Sigh, I don't get it.
Renew FX! Renew!!!!

Actually you're both wrong re: "Thief." It started as a series but due to poor ratings, the show was not renewed and FX and the studio, Regency tv decided to just call it a mini series and put Andre up for lead actor in the mini series category. If the show would have been a ratings smash, we would have definitely seen more episodes of "Thief" in a second season.

If there has ever been a better series on television than Damages, I haven't seen it! The script is spell-binding and the characters are off-the-charts in acting quality. I cringe at the end of each episode for not wanting it to end! Perhaps FX should show more recaps to allow new viewers to catch on to the events and they will certainly be hooked. Better writing and acting can't be found!

There has to be a season Two! I never go online, I never comment on things. However I think that this show Is amazing. I wish they didn't leave you hanging every week, I also wish it was earlier so i didn't have to wait until 10:00. However it's worth all of the waiting. But I can not wait for another season.

Love Damages, Patty Hewes, what a bitch!! Now I know what that mean by Kill all the Lawyers!! Please bring it back for a second season!!!! I think it would do well on primetime television. With Glen Close alone it would draw an audiance. May have to update everyone, but I think it would fly. Or just leave it alone and run it again on FX. Please tell me that Dirt is not coming back, it sucked!!! Who cares about the paparazzi! People are tired of them and the stupid stars they follow and hound to death. Courtney Cox was boring............... Loved Rescue Me and Nip/Tuck, but I think they have both run their course.

I would be so disappointed if Damages did not return. It is an excellent show!!! If this is cancelled, I will have to give up on FX. It's bad enough they cancelled Thief...It doesn't make any sense to commit, if you know if will not be returned.
