When one of our favorite TV shows goes off the air, it always brings sadness. However, many times, the silver lining in the cancellation is the birth of a spinoff. Sometimes it can be a great thing (Frasier) and sometimes the results can be less than ideal (The Art of Being Nick). Last month's spin-off ideas were so popular, I decided to make this a regular post. Here are some more spinoff ideas that I would love to see.
The Sherwood-Forrest Report
After the retirement of veteran newswoman Murphy Brown, Corky Sherwood-Forrest and her husband Will Forrest become the hosts of a new show on Court TV. Corky is the moderator while Will provides legal expertise along with a rotating team of guest legal scholars (Marcia Cross, Star Jones, Greta Van Susteren).
The Nelsons
WNYX employees Lisa Miller and Dave Nelson have gotten married and decided to raise a family. In this hilarious sitcom set ten years after the end of Newsradio, Dave is now the editor-in-chief of the Philadelphia Gazette (inexplicably located in Altoona). Lisa Miller-Nelson is now the head of the local PTA and full time Mom to her and Dave's three children, Jimmy James Nelson (Erik Per Sullivan), Billy Matthew Nelson (Nathan Gamble) and little Beth (Brenna and Bronwyn Tosh)
Mike Burton M.D.
The handsomest doctor in Stuckeyville finally gets his own practice. It's twenty years later and Mike's daughter has turned out to be a female Doogie Howser. Sarah is now a partner with Mike and you can bet she keeps him on his toes with her dead-on diagnoses. Rounding out the cast is Ed Stevens' entrepreneur brother Lloyd (Timothy Busfield) as the practice's office manager/publicist.
The Becky Chronicles
After the accidental death of her husband, Mark, Becky Conner moves to Chicago to "find herself." Unfortunately what she finds is a job waiting tables at Hooters. Hopefully with some help from fellow waitress Donna (Drea de Matteo) and her night school professor (Christopher Lloyd reprising his role from Stacked), Becky can find a career and a successful love life in the windy city.
The New Improved Jordan McDeere
Due to the cancellation of the long-running sketch comedy show Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Jordan's tenure at the network is considered a complete failure. She is forced to leave LA with her newborn daughter in tow, leaving her fiancee, Danny Tripp, and Hollywood behind. She ends up getting a new job teaching video production at a community college in New Mexico. Helping her along the way are the idealistic young English teacher (Adam Brody) and her thrice-divorced hard drinking next door neighbor (Katey Sagal).

For some reason I see Dave as being the one staying at home being the "mom". Really though, any time you involve kids in a show you're asking for trouble.
I don't see why Jordan McDeere would move away. Even if she had been considered a failure why would she be forced to leave Danny and get a teaching job? She could stay with Danny and not work or get a teaching job in Hollywood or nearby. I don't like that one. That said, the more Amanda Peet on my TV the better.

So Lisa divorces Johnny Johnson? I don't buy it. Plus, she was the one with the interest in print journalism, not Dave.
Also, didn't Becky already work at a hooters? Or some kind of generic version of hooters?

Lisa never should have married Johnny Johnson. Her and Dave were meant to be together, it was a combination of events that, while ending NewsRadio prematurely, didn't allow for that relationship to come completely full circle.

Hey Thomas, regarding the kids, that is true both Dave being the "mom" and adding kids to a show is a no-no. Then again, Lisa and Dave had to deal with Matthew for five seasons...he's worse than a kid lol. Remember when they took him to the park and he fell off the monkey bars?

Regarding Lisa and Dave -- perhaps the solution here is to engineer some premise where the Nelsons had to adopt Matthew? Maybe some court-enforced custody arrangement because of his multiple drug convictions?

Mike Burton M.D. ... I would watch that, save for the Doogie Howser references. Always liked Mike in that show. Bring back Kenny too as his assistant. Mike, Lloyd and Kenny ... that would be pretty funny.
