A poem for Whoopi........I stopped smoking the other day.........all the craving.....the yearning ....the desire....is all gone away......to my dismay......the newness of Life......that i feel....i cant believe its real......People say i have a glow.....My prescence is a beam......some one even told me.....My breath smelled clean....It was an ongoing desire.......i held in my heart.........to quit again.......I didnt know where to start...........I expected with drawals...anxiety .....and irritation.......having stopped now....is a new sensation...........I notice my vision....and how it has improved.....without the cloud of smoke.......I have a new groove....my sense of smell.....is that of a hound.....abd i havce not gained ...not evven a pound..........My sense of taste......makes each taste a delicacy......no desires for a cigarette breal.....,makes me feel so free......i never knew being a non smoker...could be so much fun......and it is amazing...without a break...how much i get done.......Just remember to take a moment .....give yourself credit ....for a job well done....

I want to tell Whoopi to say a "Hail Mary" whenever she has a cigarette craving. It takes 45 seconds to say the prayer and 45 seconds for the urge to pass. This worked for me. After the urge passes just thank God for allowing it to pass and keep telling yourself "I don't smoke".

At 53, I thought I would never give up my smoking habit. I smoked from the age of 16, about a pack a day, and I never have been without a cigarette, until November 18, 2007. That was the first day I had no tobacco. A friend of mine had to quit for surgery and she was given a prescription of Chantix. She had one packet left, that is 14 pills 1mg. I took these, one a day and right away was able to cut out most cigarettes. This is a very strong medicine because I took half the dose and had results. I do agree with Whoopi, this medicine needs more testing, however so does a lot of medicines we see on television ads every day. I do know people must not drink alcohol while taking Chantix.
Anyway, I did put in my mind I really wanted to quit. For starters, I had to hide my coffee!! I start the day with a glass of water and breakfast. I also have straws cut to the length of a cigarette. But everyday is still a new day to not smoke. Maybe, it's like always being an alcoholic ,who doe not drink.
Smoking is one of the hardest addictions to kick!! Everything I do seemed to involve smoking. Quitting has become a little chess game for me! I believe I have the little rolled in paper chopped vegetable in checkmate!! Best wishes to Whoopi and all those who are on the path!
