Tonight marks the beginning of my favorite time of the year. The temperature has gone down to a tolerable degree here in L.A, the leaves are turning brown, people are starting to decorate their houses for the holidays and, most importantly, the new fall season is beginning.
Just like a kid on Christmas Eve, I await the arrival of the new fall shows with giddy excitement. I was lucky enough to see some of them already, but there are still plenty to look forward to.
The best perk that comes with working for TV Squad is getting to see the new shows before they air. So far, I've seen some of the new NBC shows and all of ABC's new offerings.
For the most part, I was impressed. The hour-long dramas and dramedies (Life, Chuck, Dirty, Sexy Money, etc.) are right in my wheel house. It's as if somebody finally realized that the multi-camera sitcom is of no interest to anyone.
As has been the case for the past few years, there is a dearth of sitcoms this fall. I really enjoyed Back to You, and Samantha Who wasn't bad, but the biggest surprise for me was Cavemen.
I was all set to hate the show based on the Geico commercial but I have to admit that it wasn't that bad. The premise made me laugh and the cast is really quite funny, especially Nick Kroll who plays the militant caveman Nick. If you, like me, have preconceived notions about Cavemen, I highly recommend you give it a look.
Now for this week's question...
Which cast member of Cavemen have I worked with and what was the name of the project?
Well done Michelle. You got it!

Three camera is of no interest to anyone?
So, what are the top shows in syndication? Surely not Friends, everybody loves Raymond and Seinfeld. Noooooo. Must be Arrested Development over at G4.
Are you freaking nuts? 3 camera is the MOST beneficially lucrative endeavor the nets can do. With the exception of MASH, single cam comedies barely make a cent. Never have. Malcom in the Middle? Doesn't register. Scrubs? Nope. But Will & Grace? Married with Children? Yes and YES. Sit-coms are the direct opposite of reality shows. Which have NO ancillaries. Whose going to watch Survivor, season 2 at 6 on the local syndi net? The networks learned this over the last couple of years and have dropped reality like a bastard child.
TV is about $$ and trust me when I say this: One, just ONE well done, smartly funny 3 camera sitcom is all it will take for everyone and their cable subsidiary to pump them out.
