Looks like CBS and FOX have won the first real ratings battle of the new season.
Last night's premiere of Kid Nation on CBS grabbed 9 million viewers, while the premiere of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares over on FOX had 6.6 million. When it comes to ratings points, however, the shows were really close, with Nightmares edging Kid Nation by just a little bit. Kid Nation ran over a little bit so that might change the ratings results later today.
I think it would be great if Ramsay guest starred on Kid Nation. Imagine him coming into the town and seeing what these kids were cooking and screaming and swearing at them? "Rock candy? Are you $#&*! stupid? Get off your arses!"
Overall on the night, FOX (Back To You, 'Til Death, Kitchen Nightmares) came in first, NBC (Deal or No Deal, Last Comic Standing) second, CBS (Kid Nation, repeats of Criminal Minds and CSI: NY) third, The CW (America's Next Top Model, Gossip Girl) fourth, and ABC (a Grey's Anatomy repeat and a special Primetime) fifth.

Bob, do you think as I do that the Kid Nation's true ratings will not be until after next weeks show?
I have a feeling a lot of people tuned in to see what all the buzz was about and will maybe not return next week

Nine million really isn't that good of a following. Wait and see how this show does in the next couple weeks before we proclaim a winner.
For TV's sake, I hope this show and Kitchen Nightmares go down in flames.

Kitchen Nightmares, although not as good as the BBC version, was still thoroughly enjoyable.
Kid Nation was a pleasure to watch. I am happy it had good numbers, and I hope all the tards that were up in arms about o before they even watched an episode are bing made fun of by their friends and family members now.

I don't know, Kitchen Nightmares was a bit of a disappointment for me, since I had already been familiar with version that airs on BBC America, which is far superior to the American version. There's a lot less yelling in the BBC version, and Gordon Ramsey is actually an enjoyable personality. They also follow up on the restaurants in the BBC version. It's funny instead of gross.
For some reason, the American Kitchen Nightmares is closer to Hell's Kitchen, which itself is somewhat trashy. Do they think the American audience cannot accept Ramsey unless he's yelling? The BBC version of Kitchen Nightmares is an A, while the American verison is a C.
Also, I suspect the ratings for Kid Nation and Kitchen Nightmares will drop next week. The first week or so is a curiousity factor with most people. Kid Nation stands the most to lose as it's been promoted endlessly on CBS for weeks.

Saint, the BBC version is good. The Fox version, not surprisingly, is a pale comparison.

As a long time fan of the UK Kitchen Nightmares, I am really surprised at some of the comparisons. This weeks KN was a classic! Ramsay really had a winner of a problem with this weeks crew and what we got was much better Ramsay than Hell's Kitchen offered. I miss the recap and hope FOX will run a follow up special later in the year, but the show itself is a worthy companion to it's UK brethren.

Sure it was an interesting setting for an episode, but the actual soul of the show (the food) were never really discussed. We were left with: This is dangerous, this is what you do. Said with no more words. We didn't really get any numbers or insight. And the fact that the restaurant was just given a brand new kitchen left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The son had been incredibly selfish and wasteful in his demeanor and should have been forced to give up some of his fancy ways (like similar owners were forced to do in the UK version). Where as the UK version followed Gordon Ramsay as he fixed restaurants using nothing but his personality (and a bit of the surrounding PR), this version has nothing against using a deus ex machina, which makes it a lesser show. If I wanted that, I'd watch Extreme Makeovers.
Overall, nothing had been improved upon compared to the original. The insane editing, narrator and soundtrack made me feel like it was a Michael Bay movie I was watching.

Mikkel, After reading your comment and rewatching the episode, you are correct! One of the best parts of the UK version is Gordon teaching them to adjust their cooking ways by showing them simple and fresh ways to make the best food they can and drop the pretentiousness. This episode just ran right over any adjustments Ramsay may have made and ignored it in favor of the operation's disastrous drama. Good catch!
