(S04E13) Well, the title of this episode wasn't kidding. It was indeed a giant leap forward for the episode. I was really looking forward to this finale because a) it was such a great season and b) because there were some excellent predictions last week and I wanted to see whether they came true. SPOILER ALERT: Some of them did, and some of them didn't. But seriously, if you haven't seen the episode yet, go watch it first and then come back. We'll wait. I'll knit or something. One of the things that was predicted last week in the comments was that Danny's ability would ultimately be the way that The Marked were cured. I thought that was an excellent prediction, and it would explain why there was so much "to do" about Danny taking the freaking shot. In fact, I thought that suggestion was so much cooler than what actually happened. Originally, I conceived of promicin (in its shot form) as a sort of drug, to which some people are terribly allergic and die. Like a bee sting. But Danny's ability didn't work only to infuse people with promicin. His ability transmitted promicin like a virus, infecting person after person, and causing an epidemic all over the city. While this had the plot-necessary effect of killing 9000 people and giving 9000 more people abilities, which accelerated Jordan's visionary plan in a day or two, I thought it was also a little rushed.
I think I am just a bit bothered by the heavy death poll. toll. Nine thousand people is a LOT of people dead, and we also lost three people critical to three of our main characters. Shawn lost his mother and brother; Tom lost his sister and nephew; Kyle lost his aunt, cousin, and Isabelle. These are pretty hefty losses, especially right on top of Tom's grief about having killed people while he was possessed. I hope next season addresses these losses, and doesn't sweep them under the television rug. Especially in light of the fact that Shawn essentially killed his own brother (even if Danny was begging for it and going to die anyway). Danny was never a likable character, but at least he got to go out with a little integrity.
I am not sure I buy Kyle's line that this means that Tom needs to take the shot now. Do you think he actually does it? If he doesn't take the shot, then he and Diana will be the only two people who were introduced to the promocin who don't have new abilities. Is that going to turn out to be important to the show later on? Or will Diana, who is immune to promicin, be the only one? And how creepy is Maia turning out to be with her crap about, "It's better if we are in charge"? Diana will never be part of the "we" equation-- is that going to turn out to lead to a major mother-daughter schism in the future?
I was sorry to lose Isabelle. I thought she had some fine opportunities to show three-dimensionality this season. Too bad nobody has the ability to bring people back from the dead, but that might be really creepy in a Dawn of the Dead kind of way that USA Network isn't quite prepared to address. I knew, about half-way through the episode, that Isabelle was going to have to sacrifice herself in order to keep herself from fulfilling the nefarious missions of the marked. I thought it would have been a whole lot cooler if she had died after she stopped herself from killing Kyle, though.
I thought it was hilarious when Meghan went down to ask Kyle for help and then said, "I'm so glad Jordan already had a plan for taking over the city. But when you're done, I want it back!" Ha, like that is going to happen, but at least she was smart enough to realize that at the end of the episode. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I really did think she was evil, but I guess I was wrong, and I even sort of like her now. It was cool to see the NTAC people discovering their new abilities, but too reminiscent of the end of Season Two when that happened the first time. They need to get a new trick. The novelty of the abilities is wearing off after four seasons: Having an ability is normal, though the show has done a decent job of creating wonder as people make the discovery for the first time.
All in all, it was a stupendously good season, and I wish we didn't have to wait so long til the next one.

When Danny's ability was revealed, I kept thinking Jordan would swoop in and save the day by taking away Danny's ability.

Ira Steven Behr was in the last scene with Jordan and Kyle on the steps facing the microphones. His beard is dyed cobalt-blue and it really stands out.

I loved in the funeral scene when Tom tells Kyle and Shawn that they'll make it through it as a family, even though they're all on different sides of this "war" right now. Very, very nice metaphor for the whole show without being heavy handed at all. Good job, writers.

I agree: this was a very rushed episode, this would have been much better as a two hour episode. The whole Promicin epidemic was tied up way to easily with an over-the-counter vitamin; the Marked were taken out far too quickly in my opinion; and the death of Isabelle will be a big loss, I think. Of course, as we know, people who die tend to come back on this series depending on what the future has up its sleeve.
This was one hell of a season, the best by far. It will be interesting to see where the events of this season take the series (as long as USA doesn't pull a Sci Fi and not renew it). Two seasons back we got a snippet of a future in which there was anarchy, with Richard and Shawn on different sides of the battle. Maybe the events of this season will lead to that. Moreover, do we know that Jordan isn't still one of the Marked? Nothing was ever shown here, but one has to assume that if Shawn didn't heal the radiation poisoning people would know. I also still think there's something odd about this person who inhabits Kyle.
Was it me, or was Maia just a little creepy at the very end? Conchita Campbell wasn't in very many episodes this season, but those she was in showed a lot of talent on the part of this actress. That final scene with Maia and Diana made me question the character of Maia for the first time; she's not just some sweet little girl anymore.

Though this show has moments of instense cheesy-ness, it still pulls out good episodes like this. It did feel a little rushed, but I liked the rhythmic action (except for the sudden Promicin fix).
The one thing this show does so well is reinvent itself. Every season is pretty much a new approach. And, though I'm a little worried about them sweeping the huge death toll under the rug, the writers did reference past character issues in this episode - i.e. Kyle's possession and "killing" of Jordan, Tom's loss of Alana - so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Thank goodness we have a new fall season coming up right around the corner, because I am seriously intrigued by this show and can't wait for the next installment. Anyone know when that's due, by the way?

this may have been the series finale....
From TVguide, answers question on if the show doesnt get picked up for another season

After an injection of the wonder drug Promicin, one character "becomes a Typhoid Mary," says executive producer Ira Steven Behr. The carrier infects Seattle on a grand scale and leaves corpses everywhere. "And some of the dead we will know," Behr hints ominously. Since there's been no word yet on a series renewal, Behr says that he'll deliver an hour "that could end the series or leave us with great stories for the future."

I will never understand why this series feels the need to bore us with filler episodes and then cram so much into their finales. This episode had material for at least two or three episodes.

Rushed and good in my opinion. This and couple of other summer series had a bunch of filler episodes, but none the less I was satisfied with the finale.
I love the Pixies and the end of the show, made me think about Fight Club.

It was rushed, way too rushed considering some of the pointless episodes we had this season. Vito is right, they move along very slow and then everything happens i nthe finale. You could have gotten away from only watching 2-3 episodes this season, same with last.
There was very little buildup to this episode, I would have much rather have seen the finale be three episodes because many that we have were useless. More happened within the first 4-5 minutes than the last 4-5 episodes.
And I think everyone in Seattle is on the same side now, it's them verse the rest of the world. Seattle is now the walled off city.
I think there will be one last season and that's it, it can't continue for much longer. The evil future people are gone, and all that there is left is the government and I think next season will be about that.
I don't understand why Jordon didn't save Danny, no one even through of that on the show?
And I hope Isibelle is really dead, her charter was terrible.

I like the session finale, although I was also surprised by the high body count. But that was pretty clear to me by the end of last weeks show. Someone who kills half the people around the, ouch. I wonder why they did not at least try and give him the supplements.
I did like the NTAC agents getting their abilities. Teleportation, cool.

Rushed? Maybe. But packed and not a moment wasted? Definitely. And isn't that what you want in a finale? (Confession: I'm not a 4400 die-hard and just started watching the show this summer, including some of the older episodes). But that last montage, with the Pixies song over Jordan sermonizing, the cast developing abilities...wow. I'm still thinking about it today.

I like how there is still a possability with Isabelle returning. If you remember the season she first grew up, you'll remember she would kill herself and then come back to life. Couldn't they do the same now somehow (even though the story jumped ahead a week at the end). What I thought was also great about the episode is that this could be the end of the series and for the most part I would be OK with that, but if it isn't the end, there is a 3 way war being raged between NTAC and the Governments way, Shawns way and Jordons way.
I was disappointed we didn't get to find out who the other Marked are.

I loved the episode, I left the episode feeling it was a series finale though, as it may in fact be the final episode.

As with the DeadZone this season finale made it possible to be a series finale giving us a blend of feeling good and hoping for more. I don't know what's going on over at USA, but ever since they started working closely with NBC and SciFi even their amazing shows get put into limbo. I for one hope we see a return and I am positive Isabelle will return. She grew so much as a character this season.
I also marveled at how all surviving memebers of NTAC now have abilities. The question was posed, "Do we arrest ourselves?" The promicin shot did what it was supposed to do, people in powerful positions had to be exposed in order for great things to happen. Promicin isn't just a grassroot movement anymore.
And yes its still up on the air whether Jordan isn't already a marked. The weakest point of this season would have to be Tom and Alana. We all loved Alana and their relationship. Why work so hard to create this relationship, just to ditch it and have him hook up with his boss. This irked me on many levels and I hope after Tom's been to the darkside this will squelch that lurid affair.
Overall I'm happy with the upbeat, but open ending and ready for more. I hope they once again push themselves and actually have a season with good episodes from beginning to end.

I have a feeling the next season will deal with the list of 7 "Marked" that Tom gave Jordan Collier. Remember, Jordan said there were some important people on the list.
Another thing though, are we just assuming that Jordan had the "little machines" taken out of him with the help of Shawn? It's never really shown.

I felt it was good, and rushed. A few episodes left me wanting more. I wanted Alana to come back, Lilly to REALLY be back, Richard to stand by his daughter, protect her, and keep her with us. Can't tell you how sad I am that Isabelle is gone. Sooooo sad! I am hoping that if we are lucky enough to get another season, we can get her back! Anything is possible in this wonderful show. Writers, please make it so.

first of all Diana can get an ability just not from the virus she would have to inject herself to receive an ability
second of all there is an ability to bring people back from the dead...i cant say who it was cause they never showed the person but someone had to bring Maia's parents back to life.
third of all i love kyle's new wardrobe style.
forth of all i thought it was a very good ending for such a great season, i thought it was a great season finale, i mean it was a big jump but the season was already moving fast so i think it was the perfect way to end such a great season
PS. they killed off one of my favorite characters...the nerdy Ntac science guy who i can't remember the name of because he wasn't a big part anyways.
