I can't believe they kept the camera on close-ups of the Frankie Valley singers instead of showing the montage of The Sopranos. There was obviously this amazing montage tribute to The Sopranos and the camera captured hardly any of it.-- Biggest mistake of the night. That director should never direct again.

No one wants to hear some actors political views on anything, especially someone like Sally Field! Why ruin the show? What makes actors think that because they have a free moment in the spotlight honoring them and their craft, that they can become self made heroes in their own mind and speak out against something they are totally clueless about? Sally Field has never been a mother of anyone who served our country much less the mother of anyone who has ever had a son or daughter who has actually gone to war. She's a dummy. Those of us who have sons and daughters in the military are like our volunteer children; damn proud and not ashamed that they are protecting our way of life. I know of NO soldier who wants war. However, this sure isn't the first time we have gone to war. We learned the hard way at Pearl Harbor that isolationism never works. We lost many more lives helping the French during WWI, WWII, and Viet Nam, than what we have experienced in any of our short and less intensive wars over the past 30 years combined (thanks to great training and technology). We actually lost More in 1 day of WWII than we ever have in Iraq. Additionally, we have been in Germany since WWII for goodness sake and what do we have to show for it besides Beer, Bimmers and Benzs. So, you know we are not going to leave Iraq anytime too soon. I ask you, is saving the French people more important than saving Arabic people? Besides, at least we are getting something back from Iraq. We have never been paid for all that we spent in any of the other wars. We have had more people die from drunk drivers in the USA during since the beginning of this year than we have had for the entire length of time that we've been in Iraq. Iraq is actually safer there than here. Why not concentrate on something that might help everybody? Sally big mouth Field, shouldn't pretend she speaks for most of us much less pretend to care about those of us who are mothers with sons & daughters serving our country in our armed services. We sure as heck haven't asked her to speak for us and I doubt anyone in the audience have a son or daughter in any war at the moment. Sally F. isn't helping me by ticking off our military. Lastly, Why would she think that if mothers ruled the world that we wouldn't protect our interests and serve our country any differently than a man?

In response to Ms. Feilds comments, that where stopped, and I would have liked to hear all of what she had to say... I like her very much and appreciate her efforts in voiceing her feelings... just as the Katy above as done so.. and not so nicely either.... so Katy.. we are ALL aware of the wars and the sacrafices that are made each day and Mother or not... which I am.. and having many relatives serve and die for the very freedoms that you and I have .. freedom of speech for one.. I . do not support such a negative response, its not very American.... in my opionion... so with that ... thats all I have to say... other than ,
God Bless our Troops and our neighbors who mean well ... and help those be more loving.. our world needs that and our troops need all the support they can get... from whom ever they get it from....... Marie

1. You have no idea how much or how little Sally Field knows about the war. You are just spouting off stereotypical assumptions that actors are dumb and uninformed.

3. I really doubt Sally saw an opportunity for gain and said what she said. If anything, she is going to lose opportunities because of what she said. Regardless, what you should have said is that the arena she chose to speak her mind in was nowhere close to ideal. No minds were changed. Award speeches aren't great platforms for persuasive speeches.

Neither has the president who sent us into war. Regardless, this is a pretty foolish criteria for who can and cannot voice their opinion about a war.

Actually, I know plenty of soldiers and their families that think the war was and is a mistake. Military service doesn't make you right.

I'm not sure what you are getting at. We should just accept any number of casualties lower than the totals from the past? Also, there is an assumption that those wars "worked." Maybe they didn't, but I think the biggest argument against the Iraq war is that it doesn't "work."

Seriously? Ignoring, for the moment, your serious lack of math skills, just ask yourself if you would really feel safer if you moved to Iraq than in your home today.

Back to those math skills (or lack thereof) you have to consider the per capita death rates if you really want to understand the level of safety. More people may die here, yes. However, there are also a whole lot more people to work with.

I was going to post a comment. But, after reading Kathy's post, there was nothing left to say. She covered everything better than I could have. I have a child in the military who is serving overseas and volunteered to go to Iraq. To bad that those ignorant hollywood types can't just do their jobs and quit thinking that it's their responsibility to make comments on things they know nothing about.

Sure wish I could say "Once an actress, always an actress..." about Sally Fields! Unfortunately I feel we heard the "real" Sally Fields last night. I was (& remain) completely appalled and offended by what the committee thankfully bleeped during her stumbling, mumbling acceptance speech. She has certainly gone way down in my estimations of her "true" character. Sally, you need to profoundly apologize to the American public, espacially to those who have loved ones serving this great nation all around the world!

Actually if Sally Field and her ilkwish to spout thier political agenda they should run for office. So glad I didn't watch the Emmys. I knew what would happen and I was right. These actors and actresses are starting to believe their media imposed importance. If I spouted my political feelings at my job.... I would be fired.

Hey - how about commenting on the rest of the Emmy's instead of Sally Field?

I for one am puzzled why 30 Rock won best comedy when the only other award it won was Best Guest Actress. i've tried and tried to watch the show, but just don't find it funny. Then again, I thought Seinfeld was overrated, as was Will & Grace. I'm sorry The Office didn't win, but that's just my opinion.

I am sick and tired of cable shows getting Emmys at the expense of network programs. They don't have the same restrictions on content so it is not a level playing field. They already have cable awards, why do they want Emmys too?

Number 3, well said. Some think that Hollywood and Washington are one and the same, especially those in Hollywood. There are true public servants out there who don't want actors and actresses undermining their work. What do they know of the work we do? What do we know of the work we do? It' true, when you place yourself in the public eye you will be subject to scrutiny. But, in the end, they should just "shut up and sing" and leave the stump-grinding to the people with the propert training. You do your job, and I'll do mine. Jill@JillGilbert.com

Katy and kopikat took the words right out of my keyboard! If Ms.Field is to receive an award in the future, maybe they would do well to remember she is an actress and also hand her a script, she doesnt do very well on her own, at Emmy Awards, at least! Also, Kudos! to Vanessa Williams when America Ferrara won her award! It was obvious that Ms. Williams was genuinely pleased for her castmate. It was Ms. Ferrara's moment to shine, but I think that in that gallery of ME! ME! ME! Ms. Williams' light was shining a little too!

Instead of being outraged about some silly hollywood "star", be outraged that this President has gotten us in a war that has cost us thousands of american lives, billions of dollars and has made us LESS SAFE. Our soldiers/marines are not protecting our way of life, they're endangering it. This is the TRUTH, so stop with the "they're defending our freedom" bullshit. And yes I know people who are over in Iraq right now, not any family thankfully.

Just because more people died in Viet Nam or World War II or whatnot doesn't mean that those soldiers/marines lives mean nothing, you're belittling their sacrifice when you imply that it's not "big deal" beacuse not "that many" have died.

Have you even considered the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who've died as a direct result of the invasion? They're people too you know.

Not even going to comment the bullshit about the French. Pick up a history book or something.

Loved Kurt's defense of Sally Field. Well thought out, unlike many of the ramblings posted here. Sally is an admiral person; single working Mom, brilliant actor and impassioned citizen. Carry on Sally and congrats on another well deserved award!

I agree with Dave,that NPH got robbed:in the dead art of the sitcom,Neil is a master.Of course,Hugh Laurie was also robbed once again (remind me why Spader is a dramatic actor,when ABC advertises this show as a comedy?)

1. Dave (Comment 14), it's not the content that often makes cable shows so much better than network shows. It's the willingness by cable to take chances the networks are too scared to take. The Sopranos is not a good series because it features cussing and a little nudity; it's a good series because of its great actors and its great writing. Just because it may have content you don't like doesn't mean it's of lesser value than the same old crap on the networks. 30 Rock is prime example of a crap network series that won when better series like Entourage or Ugly Betty should have won.

2. As much as I love watching Boston Legal, everyone in the Best Actor-Drama category was robbed. Hugh Laurie is long, long overdue for an Emmy. The same holds true for Sally Field. Love her in Brothers and Sisters, but Kyra Sedgwick is long overdue for some recognition by her peers.

3. Once again, Battlestar Galactica got screwed out of what it deserved. Hopefully, this will at least lead to some attention for the ratings-starved series.

4. The last time I checked we still live in a free country. Actors, like all Americans, are free to say as they wish. As with anything you don't like, change the channel and quit whining.

5. I wish I had a fifth thing to say, but nothing comes to mind.
