All the recent talk about Ryan Seacrest reminded me of a video that a friend sent me.
The video was shot by a group of young people who took a trip to New York city for New Years Eve. For most of the video, they are trying to get the attention of Carson Daly, who they were there to see. Before the end, they manage to get Carson to glance their way, however briefly.
Right after Carson deigns to grace the youngsters with his award-missing smile an unexpected guest makes a cameo.
I love to watch this video because it shows the side of Ryan Seacrest that made him popular in the first place. When he's not busy being a smiling, smarmy shill he sometimes will show a clever side of his personality. A side that's not afraid to make a fool of itself. Honestly, it's the part he often plays when he and Simon Cowell get into their verbal sparring matches on American Idol.
The best part of the video comes at the end when one of the kids has a less than spectacular reaction to Ryan's appearance

As many bad things as I can say about Ryan Seacrest (and the fact he's hosting the Emmy's, as "TV's Ryan Seacrest, is one of them), the guy clearly has a sense of humour. His riff on himself and the entertainment media he's a big part of in "Knocked Up" was very funny and well-done.

I think this guys gets too much flak, you gotta admit he's a good host... keeps stuff airy, can create interesting conversation, seems approachable... don't know why he gets so much grief.
