Now, don't laugh at me. I'm sensitive, y'know. Not only that, but I've been up all night. Someone has to watch the Head of House endurance comps at the Big Brother 8 house! Someone has to report back to you!I knew the job was dangerous when I took it. So I settled back with a four-pack of Trader Joe's Espresso soda and unhealthy snack foods. I like to think of it as my own endurance competition. I will be the Head of House!
But if you want to know who won part one (no, it wasn't me), read on past the jump for the skinny. Severe show spoilers ahead!
As you recall from the live show, the final three houseguests were each standing on a carrot-stump as a greyhound training kind of rabbit circled about them. They each had to jump to clear the rabbit while hanging onto their key. In typical fashion, Big Brother kicked in with rain.
And so it went. Well, that is it went that way until the first non-clearing of the rabbit.. At about 12:40 AM ET, nearly three hours after the comp started, Daniele tripped over the rabbit.
She killed it. The whole shebang stopped dead in its tracks. Always thinking, Dick and Zach kept their hands on their keys even though the rabbit was just sitting there staring at them. Daniele ran off crying hysterically, took a shower, had more hysterics angry with herself.
The feeds went down for an extended time, then returned.
"Houston, we have a problem. The rabbit died."
"Doesn't that mean someone's pregnant? Evel has been looking a bit puffy around the middle lately."
From that point, it became a comedy of technical errors -- feeds blocking and unblocking, ShoToo kept getting the storage room while the actual feeds had blue vortex, staff members' voices coming through (a big no-no), and there was a sad very wet dead rabbit stuck in the middle of it all. Now, I know the rabbit was fake, but it's still tragic, isn't it? Isn't it?They finally decided on a game plan. Dick and Zach would remain on their carrot-stumps, get doused with hot and cold water and the show must go on!
And on and on and on.
Dick went into one of his tirades going on about Zach's manhood (or lack thereof), his alleged racist comments, blah-rant-blah. The feeds got blocked again, this time for an extended period of time. When they returned, both Dick and Zach kept hanging on, getting wet, and jogging in place on their respective carrot-stumps. But not a word was exchanged between the two, not for hours.
As the comp went on, Daniele was encouraging her father. But, dang, he was fading before our very eyes. Meanwhile, Zach was like a machine. And so it went. And went and went. I know Evel Dick was all about doing it for Daniele, but I was hoping they had an ambulance waiting to cart him away. RoboZach nary missed a beat.
Finally, at 5:23 AM ET, about 7½ hours into it, Dick gave up. I think he probably looked Death in the eye and decided he didn't want to die on Big Brother 8 live feeds to a geeky internet audience.Zach turned to him and said, "You're incredible."
Zach has won part one of the three-part HOH comp. If my mind is still working after watching a rabbit get murdered by a blonde Donato and almost watching Dick go into the trauma unit, I believe the second part pits Dick and Daniele against each other. The third would be Zach against the winner of the second part.
They're cold, I'm tired. And I have no more Trader Joe's Espresso soda. So, I'll bid adieu to you for now, leaving you with a YouTube clip of the feeds -- it shows how unevenly matched in the comp these two were. I recorded it about a half-hour before Dick packed it in.

I kinda hope Zach wins HOH and votes out Dani. His only chance of winning is to go to final two against ED. If a Donato should win, I think it should be Dani as she did almost all of the work to get her and her father to the final 3. JMO. Hope they don't block the feeds for the final 2 parts of the competition. I love reading about it.

I don't think Zach deserves to go to the end at all, he didn't do much thru out the game and doesn't deserve to win. Dani and her Dad belong in the final two and I feel bad that Dick had to give up but I can imagine the pain he was in. As much as I don't like the things Dick did or said without him this show would have put me to sleep, it was by far the worse season of Big Brother I have ever see. Dani does deserve to win it all, she did do most of the work, but without her Dad she would have been gone a long time ago. Zach is a jerk!

I don't want Zach to win & never thought he would make it this far. Should have evicted him & kept Amber, but then again, I didn't care that much for her either. Nick was my favorite. Dani is not her father & think she has overcome a lot to be the person she is & I think she deserves to win! Does anybody know what the final HOH comp is, endurance or questions? If questions, Dick should just let Dani have the 2nd challenge and let her go head to head with Zach. She's much smarter!

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Jen, but Dick just continues to step over the line; in the words of Charlie Murphy, he's "a habitual line-stepper." He's a vile douchebag, and don't even try to say it's all "strategy." To act like this for so long, that's just your personality coming out. And Danielle (aka Dicklet)? About the least self-aware person I've ever seen in my life; she loves to bash people for "backstabbing" when she conviently forgets her and her douchedad did the same thing to Jess and Eric. That's how the game is played, yes, but don't act all holier-than thou, and like you're somehow better than the others - you're not. And she needs to stop the whining, pouting, and generally acting like she's twelve years old. They both suck and CBS is clearly rigging the game for ratings - these new producers need to go, cause they suck too.

And why do the same people who claim that Dick being an asshole is "strategy", think that Zach doesn't deserve to win for his strategy of laying low until the end? He's dominating the game when it counts.

I can't stand the Donato's either. Zach might not be the brightest bulb in the pack, but I'd rather see him win than either on of the Donato's. Take away all the colored hair, tatoos, and nail polish and ED is a dork. Have you paid attention to how he walks...too funny.

I watched these 3 contestants stand there and get sprayed with Cold Water and I thought , this is torture.
I looked up the temp in L.A. at the time. It was 67 degrees and it was dropping. I think this contest put the contestants in some danger with their health and I think it was awful to watch. I did not watch it all the way to the end cause I couldn't stand watching Dick shiver so hard.
Danielle was crying in pain when she went to the shower.
She was shaking so hard on top of the carrot it was unbelieveable she lasted as long as she did.
This was a horrible HOH contest. CBS should be ashamed.

Jackie, if they pit Dick and Danielle against each other and then Dick throws the competition, what happens if Danielle beats Zach? Or Visa Versa?Have they had endurance contests in years past, or did they just start trying to be like Fear Factor? Obviously, I am disappointed but I must admit I didn't like Dick wasting his energy trying to get Zach to give up, he wasn't going to and Dick should have saved his strength don't you think? Oh well, life goes on for the rest of us with or without BB, thank God! BB got me through surgery and a boring summer so now its football season and my beautiful 16yr. old grandson is playing his junior year and my gorgeous l6 year old grandaughter is a cheerleader and my two 13 year old darling grandaughters are in 8th grade cheerleading and dancing, not to mention my six babies 7 yr. old girl, 5 yr. old boy, 4 yr. old girl, 3 yr. old boy and two 2 yr old's (a boy and a girl) will keep me busy, not to mention my 5 great kids and their partners, as well as my husband of 42 years, so why an I wasting my time on this weak study of human character...I'll tell you, because of your updates, Miss Jackie, thanks again!

I'd take Zach over the Dicks in a heart beat. And if it is a Donato final two (awful!), then I'd rather Dick win since it'll totally mess with their relationship outside the house. Bwahaha. Yes, I'm vindictive.
As for Zach "not playing." Sure he floated around a bit, but with the backfire of Kail and her boys, he had to. Plus he actually has won some big competition, especially in the MOST IMPORTANT times i.e. the end.

In your scenario -- hypothetical Dick throws the second part to Daniele, then she wins the third part against Zach -- Daniele would then choose who to take with her to the final two. I personally think that she thinks she has equal chances to win against either of them, possibly thinking she has more of a chance to beat her father. I think she'd take Dick to the final two.
Scenario reversed and Zach wins the final part -- I also think he'd take Dick with him over Daniele.

Sounds like you and I have a lot in common. I'm a grandma too of 3, twin boys 6 and girl almost 3. I had foot surgery last Dec. and my husband of 40 yrs. and I have always enjoyed BB. In the 2nd challenge, Dick will go up against Dani, and the winner of that will go up against Zach for final HOH. Don't know whether 2nd challenge will be endurance or questions. But if it's questions, Dick should throw it to Dani and let her win. She's much smarter than Zach. I remember one year, think it was Allstars, last yr., they had those faces of evicted houseguests with like a nose from one and eyes from another and mouth from another and they were timed as to how long it took them to figure out whose parts made up the face they were looking at. Howie took like 20 some odd minutes and Janelle took like 2 minutes. Anyway, I've always enjoyed BB, and it's been nice to see that extra Showtime too from 12:00am to 3:00 am EST. You got to see who had won HOH & POV before the live airing on CBS. Anyway, that's my opinion, what's yours?

dd - I think it was a definite advantage for Zach, but I don't think it was an unfair one. Both Daniele and Dick have studied the game. They know or could have guessed that water would be coming at them as it's a staple of the comps. They could have brought their own caps. I'm sure there are at least two more caps in the house. So, while it helped Zach, I think they blew it on their end cap-wise.
I honestly don't think the results would have been any different, though. Daniele would have shivered herself off her stump first no matter what. And Zach is younger, exercises, and is in better shape than Dick.
Perhaps it was preordained.
