Pixelvia PlayTVWho needs a hard drive? Prolink has announced a tiny new PVR that will record directly to a flash drive. That way you can watch recorded television shows on your TV or portable device.

It's hardly a new concept, but it's been a while since we've seen anyone come out with a new flash card-based PVR. In the meantime, flash cards have gotten both larger and cheaper.

Prolink's Pixelview PlayTV (not to be confused with Sony's soon to be released PlayTV PVR add-on for the Playstation3), sports:

  • Support for SD cards or external hard drives/flash drives through a USB port
  • Preview 9 channels on the screen at once
  • XviD encoding
  • Schedule recordings or record live TV with one press of a button
  • Several profiles including TV, iPod, PSP, PMP, 3GP and several phone settings
  • Record and playback videos with resolutions between 160 x 128 and 720 x 480
  • Playback WAV/AAC/MP3/WMA music files
  • Display JPG/PNG/GIF photo slideshows
  • IR remote control
There's no word yet on pricing or availabillity.
