The Digital Video Recorder (known henceforth as DVR) is a heavenly, yet evil, device. On the one hand, it lets you record and store shows for easy retrieval. Some models even permit you to record two shows that are airing at the same time. On the other hand, it lets you record and store shows, some of them airing at the same time, that you may never, ever get to watch.
I thought about this as I went through my own list of DVR recordings. Some shows I have on the unit are from the beginning of the summer. Others are items that my wife saves. Still others are those recorded by my six-year-old daughter, who recently learned how to program the darn thing (kid needs to be in M.I.T.).
So, what I wanted to know from you, the devoted TV Squad reader, is what shows you have on your DVR. I'll tell you mine (after the jump) if you tell me yours.
The oldest items I have on my DVR are episodes from the third series of Doctor Who, which I recorded off of Sci-Fi Channel. I have about five of these episodes on my box. I need to be in a certain mood to watch those shows. I also have a replay of Live From New York: The First 5 Years of Saturday Night Live, which was replayed on NBC last week, the most recent episode of Alton Brown's Feasting on Asphalt and a Rachel Ray $40 a Day episode.
My wife has several days of Days of Our Lives saved on the DVR. Like me and Doctor Who, there has to be a certain mood in the house (in other words, quiet) for her to watch the backed-up shows. The kids have some random items saved as well. There are a few episodes of Hi-5 and Hip Hop Harry as well as one or two episodes of Hanna Montana. My daughter did have a copy of High School Musical saved but I deleted it. I can only afford merchandise from one Disney show and HM is it.
So, I revealed my soul to you. Now, it's time for you to fess up. Once you do you'll feel better about yourself.

I recorded many, many movies during TCM's 31 days of Oscar this year, and On the Waterfront and The Conversation are still lingering. Once the fall season starts, things will begin to pile up as I fall behind, but in the summer I tend to stay fairly current.

A few assorted movies I taped during a free trial of Showtime, the "Slap Bet" episode of How I Met Your Mother (which I refuse to delete until I get the Season Two DVD set), the last couple of episodes of The Riches, which I recorded months ago and have been watching over the summer, and the first few episodes of Damages, which I plan to catch up on soon.

I have about 20 episodes of COPS, and 6 of COPS 2.0. These are great when I need 20 minutes of time filler entertainment. The eps from 2000+ always get priority viewing...the quality of early-mid 90's era eps are hit or miss.
I am not mentioning the hottest shows, which are viewed immediately and deleted...there are too many.
Everyone should have a season pass for Mad Money.
I have an Amazon Unbox purchase of Ghost Rider, which I picked up on a $0.99 sale, however I only have 3 more days to view it before it disappears. ( I used my free $15 credit to order it...I'd never pay real money for that movie.)

I had more than a dozen movies sitting on the DVR (the oldest for 15 months), but I just joined Netflix and put them all in the queue. So I'm current for now, with the exception of Sarah Silverman's ComCen show that I recorded but never got around to watching.
By the way, people should be warned about a new DVR software that Time Warner is developing (and VERY prematurely releasing). It's called Navigator. It is a disaster. It's loaded on the Scientific Atlanta 8300HDC machines, so fight for the 8300HD with Passport, which isn't perfect, but is tons better. (You might want to Google "time warner" lincoln nebraska -- that's where the software was first rolled out. TW almost lost the franchise as a result.)

I only just - finally! - upgraded my cable to have DVR two weeks ago. And I have no concept yet of how full it can get. To me, I think there's already too much on there and so I find I'm deleting as soon as I watch something.
I have:
from American Life Network:
My Favorite Martian & F Troop & Combat & Maverick & 77 Sunset Strip plus one episode of WKRP and one of Superman featuring Joi Lansing. Wow!
from USA Network:
Psych, Monk, Burn Notice, the 4400, Dead Zone
from Cartoon Network:
Robot chicken
from HBO:
Entourage & As You Like It (Not sure when I'll ever get to that!)
from AMC:
Mad Men
From Sci-Fi:
Eureka & Doctor Who
From TNT:
The Closer & The Company
from ABC Family:
Kyle XY & the whole run of Fallen
from TBS:
My Boys
from TCM:
New Faces of 1937
From IFC:
Jackie Woodman & Garage Days
from WLIW:
Winged MIgration (sounds like one of those movies you record and NEVER get around to watching!)
The last of the Masters of Science Fiction
and I was dvr'ing The Bronx Is Burnng but I'm caught up and deleted that.
I guess I only have a few weeks before I have to start weeding it out for all of the fall offerings.

As the daddy of twin 3 year old boys, our DVR seems to be filled with a plethora of Wiggles, Little Einstein, Babar, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Sesame Street. Though they have started watching a new show called "Jane and Dragon" based on a book series (and not a bad little show).
As for rare times my wife and I are able to get in some TV time, we've got episodes of Doctor Who, Planet Earth, Last Comic Standing and Top Chef to watch while waiting for the Fall Season to begin. Then we'll be making room for Heroes, Smallville, Supernatural, CSI, House, Family Guy and a few others. Plus, we'll be giving the obligatory trial run (two-three eps) for several of the new series starting, including Bionic Woman, Pushing Daisies, etc.

Most of this season of Rescue Me is on there, but I disliked the first few eps of the year so much, I haven't gotten going on it yet. My wife still has the entire second half of Jericho on there, though I'm becoming less convinced she's ever going to watch them.
Most embarrassing: about a dozen episodes of BBC's How Clean Is Your House? We actually watch that one pretty regularly, but with BBC America showing three eps a weekday, it's still more than we can keep up on.

We've got six people living in our house (sometimes 7), so things don't stay on the DVRs for long. On the one that I have primary control over, I've got
The 4400
Army Wives
Big Brother 8
Big Love
Burn Notice
Damages
The Dead Zone
Entourage
Flash Gordon (thinking about deleting this)
Mad Men
On the one that I don't get to watch as much, we've got mostly game shows and procedurals.
The Singing Bee
Don't Forget the Lyrics
Damages (again)
Grand Slam
Jeopardy
The St. Louis episode of Feasting on Asphalt
and random episodes of
Human Weapon
LA Ink
CSI

The entire Season 3 of Battlestar Galactica - won't delete this until the DVD comes out (and who knows when that'll be!) - we continue to go back and rewatch just to get a BSG fill, and a few eps of Top Gear from BBC America..I'm pretty good at keeping up with the watching, as BSG takes up almost 1/2 of my DVR (only 48 hours of programming...)

I've got 2 episodes of The Office and 4 of 30 Rock, all in HD. I have an ep of Old Christine that I haven't watched yet. I've been wanting to check that show out. I also have 5 episodes of How I Met Your Mother, all in HD. SNL's Best of 06/07 special, 1 ep of Brothers & Sisters, a Matchbox Twenty HD concert, a Rob Thomas HD concert, a couple 4400 episodes, some Live Earth, and Green Day's Storytellers.
Oh, I also have an 8 minute recording of VH1, with the videos of Maroon 5's "Wake Up Call" and Lifehouse's "First Time."

I've got lots of movies recorded, some of which have yet to be released on DVD, like 'The Gong Show Movie' and 'The Last Days of Disco'. Also, every episode of 'The Knights of Prosperity', the last five episodes of 'Jericho' I haven't gotten to yet, lots of 'Mad Men' that I may or may not catch up on and 'The Universe' on the History Channel. I have some serious catching up to do before the fall season starts...

My biggest space taker is all but two episodes of FRIDAY THE 13th - THE SERIES from the Chiller channel. They keep skipping one episode I need, and I have to wait for them to cycle through for the other episode from season 1. I also record WHAT'S MY LINE from GSN every week (30+ episodes). Love the classic game shows! But this stuff has got to go before the new season starts! I also have MAD MEN from AMC and a bunch of Joan Crawford movies from TCM. I do keep up with current shows though.
