The first thing I noticed about this DVD is that on the back it says in fine print that the music has been altered for the release, and I got a little apprehensive after the whole WKRP In Cincinnati fiasco. But looking over the episodes I can't find any music replaced or any weird edits to the music that would then make a scene oddly edited. So I would buy this and not even worry about anything missing.

But there are a few things missing extras-wise, but we'll get to that in a minute. Overall, how is the second season set of The Odd Couple? Click on the link below for a look.

Video/Audio: It's been so long since I've seen an episode of The Odd Couple (are they even on anywhere right now?) that I can't tell how these differ from the syndicated versions. I do know that the audio is good for the most part (though I did notice some of the volume of some of the audience laughter going up and down which was jarring in the David Steinberg episode). The video is fine.

Menus: The Odd Couple theme song plays over various moving photos from the series, and then the episode titles come up on the left. Simple but that's a good thing.

Extras: None. That's right, none at all. And that's disappointing, considering the first season set had a ton of extras. That's unfortunate, but maybe they'll make up for it with a packed third season set.

The way that the second season of the show is better than the first season has nothing to do with the DVDs but has everything to do with the show itself. The first season was filmed in a different apartment, with one camera and no studio audience. In the second season they changed that, moving to the apartment we all know and love, changing to three cameras and bringing in a studio audience. It's a massive improvement. The show is livelier and a lot funnier too. And you get the introduction to a lot of the great secondary characters too (though The Pigeon Sisters are gone).

Overall, a fine set. If you forget about the lack of extras and concentrate on the episodes themselves (a couple of the best eps of the series are on this set) you'll be happy.
