Remember when VH1 was home to videos that MTV would no longer play as well as shows like Behind the Music? Not anymore, it isn't. Today, VH1 is home to reality shows featuring many of your favorite (or not so favorite) 70's and 80's personalities. Recent shows have starred such icons as Christopher Knight, Danny Bonaduce and Dustin Diamond, who is sooo not Screech.
The most recent addition to this 'blast from the past' line-up was Scott Baio is 45 . . . and Single, which starred former Charles in Charge and Happy Days heartthrob Scott Baio. The show focused on Baio's issues with commitment and the lengths he went through to get past them all. Well, the show garnered enough attention (1 million adult viewers each week) that VH1 has decided to renew the show for a second 9-episode season. Production of this new season, which will comprise 6 half-hour and three hour-long episodes, will begin in the fall.
Slight spoilers after the jump. Don't blame me if you read them.
I wonder if the title of the show will be changing. First off, Baio will probably be 46 or older by the time the show premieres. Second, in the season finale it seems that Scott overcame enough of his commitment issues to ask his long time girlfriend to marry him. Lastly, it turns out that his girlfriend was pregnant. Cue fish hook eye and sappy soap opera music!

Well, Eric, I'm more interested in someone I watched on TV when I was younger than the numerous assholes who make names for themselves on so-called "reality" programs every season.
That said, I watched this show for some reason (I don't normally do reality of any kind), and I loved it. We always see news stories about former child actors (granted he acted as an adult as well) whose lives turned to shit. His didn't. It was interesting to learn what happened to him along the way and to see he was really a decent person with a relatively normal life; he managed his money, didn't have anger management issues, didn't turn to drugs. I'll watch him again next year.
What I won't watch, however, is Brett Michaels - who used to be a decent ex-rocker celebrity - embarrass himself with a bunch of whores while he tries to look for the perfect mate. That is so pathetic I cringe at the commercials.

Doesn't VH1 stand for "Video Hits One"... yeah, I guess just like MTV stands for "Music Television".
I remember when VH1 not only showed videos, but all kinds of stuff... a jazz video followed by a country video followed by some other obscure stuff. I picked up knowledge of many "off the radar" artists and genres by watching VH1.
VH1 Classic started out like the first-generation VH1, and I wanted it to stay that way forever. Now VH1 Classic is starting to go down the path of its parent by showing Pop Up Video, Movies That Rock, and Behind the Music. In about ten years, it will probably be showing all the crap that is on VH1 now.
Oh... sorry... I know this has nothing to do with "Scott Baio...". I just wanted to vent!

Compared to the usual celebrity exploitation reality crap VH1 produces, to my surprise, this show wasn't half bad. Mostly due to the reasons Carissa said, in that Scott Baio came off as a regular guy (As least as regular one can be growing up on camera) who was just trying to figure himself out.
Do I miss the old VH1? Sure, but it's never going to be what it once was, so if they are going to be the "Celebreality" channel, at least make those shows watchable, unlike the excrement that is the shows with Brett Michaels and that silly "Mystery" doofus.

It's useless to argue whether a music video channel should show music videos--you, and no one else, would be watching them. The days of the music video medium being a money maker, and moreso a ratings maker, are long gone. M2 (now MTV2) proved just that years ago. If you want to watch music videos, spend your time on YouTube or check and see if your cable carrier has The Tube.
Anyone complaining about Baio's show--did you watch it? I loathe reality TV, but this is VH1's take on reality, which just takes real characters and puts them in sitcom situations. Honestly, this show is/was funnier than any sitcom I can think of that's on TV right now and they ended the series on a funny and cute cliffhanger. I'm glad it's coming back, and I'd rather see 9 more episodes of this than hear about another New York, Flava Flav, or Poison matchmaker series--those show how bottom of the barrel America's become.

Well, I have to agree with #1 - I don't really care about Scott Baio and never have...I find it hard to believe that people actually watch his show - The old man is 45 and still thinks like a jackass, immature 20 year old with issues(And he wonders why he is single, c'mon).
If this is the best Vh1 can do other than Flavor (Fools) of Love, I won't complain about the second season.

My GF convinced me to watch this with her, and it was not as bad as I expected. Being the reality show nut that she is, I've seen all of the ones that have been discussed (Bonaduce, Christopher Knight, Pauly Shore, Bret Michaels (that one's worth watching just because the girls are sucha collective train wreck), etc. Scott actually turned out to be a decent person, especially given his formative years. But it doesn't matter if I don't want to watch season 2...I've got no choice in that matter.
