(S04E11) "Ninety-seven minutes, E." - Drama
It just keeps getting better. Like everyone else, I've complained here and there about some of the mediocre episodes that have aired this summer. However, it's hard to stay angry when we get one like this. It was perfect really. Hands down, one of the best written episodes of Entourage -- spanning all four seasons. Think about it. When was the last episode that flawlessly integrated every character into the action as well as guest spots from Kanye West, Sydney Pollack, and Anna Faris?
It was great. Cannes or bust, right? Take a look at the episode title. LAX is shut down. Terrorist threats are all over the news. No one is leaving the city on a commercial flight and Johnny Drama thinks he's Jack Bauer. Watching him trying to befriend the Arab guy (so he wouldn't kill him on the plane) was one of the top five Drama moments period. The guy seemed so sad when he found out that he wouldn't really be having dinner with Drama.
The rest of the episode played out wonderfully too. The continued interactions we've been getting from Ari and his wife are great. Especially the stuff at home. Ari is trying so hard to relive the glory of his single days, but it's funny just to see him melt when he thinks his wife might be angry. It's really the only time we see him put on a different face.
With Lloyd... it's different story. It would have been funny to see him frolicking through France. I wish Ari had kept his promise and brought the little WeHo Ho. I liked what it set-up though. Now that Lloyd has taken off on his gay cruise, what's Ari going to do without an assistant manning his desk? Although, I could be thinking about this too much. Lloyd will probably be back the same time the Cannes contingent returns.
Once again though, the real gem of the episode was Vince and Eric. Anna Faris has clearly created a wedge between them, and even though she fired E, I don't see that wedge going away anytime soon. Each episode, the arguments between E and Vince have gotten increasingly heated. Vince wanted Anna in Silo and Eric couldn't pull it off as her manager. As usual, he let emotion take over.
I'm not sure what the big deal is. Walsh is starting to bug me if only because he thought Anna would have been good in the role. I'm not sure she was the right fit. Hell, I don't know who would be. Did you hear those few lines she read from the script? It sounds horrible. This could be interesting though. Up until now, Vince and Walsh have been golden together. What happens when they make something that tanks?

The episode was very very good. However, I must disagree with the Ari/wife tete-a-tetes. Enough is enough already. The phone stuff throughout the entire episode was too "slap stickish" for me.
From scene one I knew he would wind up leaving her at home, and all the excuses he used were rather lame.
It seemed to me they had nothing for Ari in the meat of the script so he just became filler.

I thought E's firing was really abrupt. Did Anna really fire him, or is he just lying to Vince to avoid the truth coming out?

have to disagree. there were a few good moments (anything with ari and his wife or drama are golden) but everything else was eh. eric is a horrible character and vince isn't far behind. their stories don't interest me. if the movie is sold it will be terrible and if it doesnt it will be good. i really think it will be sold because i think eric is right and its terrible.

One of the best episodes of S4 for sure. Good story lines for the most part. I think they got rid of Anna a bit too quickly...but I have a a feeling that's not the last we see of her. As for the trip to Cannes:
- Medellin will come off as "the next big hit" that we've been lead to believe it will be.
- They'll sell it to somebody big. I have a feeling that Harvey will get involved and there will be another confrontation.
- If it wasn't the last episode of the season...I would say that somebody would wind up in a French jail on the trip. Who knows...maybe it will be Walsh.
- I have a feeling that either 1) something happens with Walsh that creates a cliffhanger about his upcoming Silo project and/or 2) Anna will show up at Cannes and create a big rift between Vince and E.
Anybody think we'll see a Season 4.2 in the winter/spring??? If sales of 3.1 on DVD are going well...I wouldn't be surprised if they start doing half seasons now and continue to sell the DVD set at a full season price. Then once the show ends they can release a full box with all seasons in their entirety. Great marketing!!!

^ Yep I want to know that too. Sounded like a Kanye West song.
It was a good episode...I'm surprised E got fired by Anna Faris...I have a feeling he's lying, which will piss Vince off even more.
Anyways how many more episodes left for the reason?

Seems to be Kanye West's Goodlife song, according to the official HBO Entourage website. ( http://www.hbo.com/entourage/music/season04/episode53.html ).
Next week will be the final episode of this season. HBO renewed the show for another season last week, I'm not sure but I don't think there is already a schedule when the new season will air. Btw, did Anna really fire E.? Or only turned down the proposal to be part in the Soil-project? Not sure about that, might rewatch it one more time tonight.. but as said, it was a good episode! Waiting for next weeks big ending.

WOW – I thought this episode sucked. Nothing was all that outlandish and they even cut the Drama/ Turtle Jack Bauer stuff way too short. It never got awkward. I thought there was definitely a strip search coming. Also, does E have to be a bitch in every episode, thinking with his heart and not his brain or “package.” First getting bullied by Vince and Walsh then getting sappy with Anna only to be fired? Lame! I don’t know, the show is much better when it’s just antics and not so plot driven. I do like however the way they make Vince so grounded within his friendships. His all or none attitude is great. I hope there is some fun to be had in Cannes.

I'm going to have to disagree with the review. I thought the first half of the episode kept the pace set by the last few (great) episodes, but then the writing went to crap. The scene shared by Anna and E toward the end reminded me of some stuff I peer reviewed in my intro to screenwriting class back in college. Quite forced and unnatural, if you ask me. Of course, none of this was helped by Farris' incredibly thin acting chops.
Things got worse toward the end when the conflict melted away and things started magically working out for everyone. Ari burned his bridges with Sydney Pollack? No problem - one phone call will iron everything out. No room on the plane for everyone? That's fine; the writers have thrown in a magical celebrity cameo to solve the problem. They should change the name of the show from "Entourage" to "Deus Ex Machina."
I get that the show is a pseudo-satire of Hollywood and its ridiculous in-group culture, but somehow the stuff just didn't work last night. I thought we had strayed away from the trappings of the earlier seasons' plot structures (little conflict, flat dialogue, almost-too-convenient solutions) with the more recent episodes, but this one reminded me of everything I used to hate about this show. A saving grace was the stuff between Ari and his wife - great performances and some good dialogue to boot. All I'm hoping is they tossed this episode at one of the lesser writers on the show (saying, "just get them to Canne") so they could focus on hitting one out of the park with the season finale.

The Watcher column in the Chicago Tribune had an interesting critique of the show stating that there are never any consequences for the characters. Any conflict seems to have a way of solving itself, and is never heard from again. e.g. Kanye just happening by with a jet, Ari making good with Pollock, Vince betting at Dennis Hopper's, E attempting to manage another client. Walsh is "one of the guys now." Enough already! I hope Medellin is a flop so there's finally something to work with on the show.
And to kick the show while it's down, let's hope that this episode is the last we see of Anna Faris. Her scenes with E are dull and tiresome. Stick to the Scary Movie flicks, Anna. Even a half-hour cable sitcom is outside her acting ability.

I agree that I think E quit and is lying to prevent Vince from feeling guilty. The theme at the end was friendship, everybody staying back because turtle couldn't go. In this same vein, E is being a good friend(I think). The transition was just so abrupt that I doubted it was just that simple. And all of you haters are just wrong-the episode was great. I feel like everybody is simply looking for plot advancement instead of character development.

well...reading about a lot of different opinions make me think. No doubt that it was a well scripted episode but some how i personally felt that too many plots were pushed into one episode and certain things could not be done justice to for example the drama move at the airport of trying to befriend an arab charecter(I personally feel that he should have taked off his turban after hearing about the scare!!!).Even though every scenece was well edited and and the transition between different plots was extremely smooth the episode itself was not conclusive enough like usual. The story was not progressing anywhere.I feel it was meant to fill in the gap between episode 10 and episode 12 and was a job well done.Talking of the slight negetivity created between Vince and Eric, i think its more of Walch than Anna who is responsible. And yess I think Anna farris was a good idea...since its some what bringing in light in Eric's life after his breakup with sloan and definitely its nice to see the little manager some what comming out of his "superstar" friends shadow and actually being a productive individual in the real world of reel world.Anna was good and i feel pretty good for E and they should be going out in the further story but the entourage episodes have had enough of her and its time for her to not appear in the frame any more.
And before signing off i must mention my favourite charecter Ari .....like usual....HE ROCKS!!!

It wasn't great. I didn't like the Anna Faris resolution. I was left wanting more. It didn't seem likely that she'd fire him like that. The appearance of Kanye at the right moment felt like a cheap stunt casting. I know, Entourage is full of them, but this one was out of the blue. Like a superhero, in comes Kanye to save the day. It's a bird! It's a plane! It really is a plane, Kanye's plane!
Only 5 people fit on Sydney's plane. They fight over who really needs to go. Drama's excuse is passable, because he can network in Cannes. Had Lloyd gone- though he wasn't an option at that point- he'd have served a purpose for Ari. Turtle? Turtle needs a life- and his own career (what ever happened to that?). And why couldn't they have gone on two separate planes? If they weren't afraid of looking gay they'd probably pee together.
Loved Mrs. Ari and Lloyd as usual but can we just get on with the season?

I didn't like this episode very much.
-Didn't like how the Anna storyline played out. It was so neat and tidy to get her off the show but seemed to come out of nowhere. Come on, E., you're a professional. Sell her on the dream team. It seemed, as someone else commented, unnatural.
-The Sydney Pollock/Kanye West scenes at the end annoyed me. I realize that stunt casting is a large part of the show but what the hell was with the Kanye appearance? Oops, they have too many people for Sydney's plane and like a superhero, in comes Kanye. It's a bird! It's a plane! No really, it is a plane, Kanye's plane! Who really needs to go to Cannes: Ari, Vinnie, E and Lloyd as Ari's assistant, though that's debatable. However, we knew that Lloyd wasn't an option at that point. Johnny has a good excuse to go to Cannes: Networking. But Turtle? Turtle needs a career (what ever happened with that?) and a life. And why couldn't they go on two separate planes? Johnny could have gone the next day - or with Sydney. If they weren't afraid it would look gay the four would probably pee together.
What did I like? Mrs. Ari and Lloyd, of course. Those two redeem any Entourage episode. The Ari-Mrs. Ari scenes were also great.

Although I enjoyed about 80% of this episode, I have to agree with the contingent who hated the way the writers concluded the Anna Faris situation with E. I gotta admit, it blindsided me, because I expected E to solve the problem like he usually does. Faris is a hottie and I wanted an excuse to see more of her on my favorite TV series, but I digress...
As for the remainder of this episode, I loved the high-speed attempts to resolve the "getting a plane ride to Cannes" scenes... with Ari pleading with Syndey Pollack to have him and the boys piggyback onto his charter flight, working to keep his gorgeous wife happy since she cannot go, and dialoging hilariously with his assistant Lloyd. Creative brilliance right there.
And contrary to what the vast majority have stated here, I loved the out-of-the-blue Kanye West appearance -- together with his posse -- coming through with his extenisive private plane... which was also a great excuse to ease in two pieces of eye candy at the end (aka "the two flight attendants). What a way to top off this cool episode, which would've been a home run if the Faris situation had been resolved better -- IMO.
