Here's some cool news for any Star Trek fans who have been enjoying the new digitally remastered Star Trek episodes currently airing in syndication:
CBS will re-air "new" digitally-cleaned-up episodes of the original Star Trek series starting next month. Forty episodes will be shown in total, starting September 15, 2007 and ending August 2, 2008. You'll have to check your listings to see what time they're airing, though it'll be either on a Saturday or Sunday.
Included in the run is "The Cage," the original Star Trek pilot, airing April 26, 2008. These "Star Trek Remastered" episodes will also be available in HD DVD format this November, if you're willing to spend over two hundred dollars on a DVD set, that is. Although, if you're a Trekkie, it's not like you're spending the money on a girlfriend.*
These forty "new" syndicated episodes don't include repeats of other episodes which are currently airing in syndication and repeats that will continue after the run of these aforementioned episodes. Also, the episode "Catspaw" will re-air on October 27 to mark its 40th anniversary.
*I'm kidding, calm down.

They actually have done a pretty good job with these. I watch them late at night if I can't sleep.

So this is a new batch, or something different? Because they've been airing on weekends with the new digital effects (replacing model shots and some other inserts) for some time. Are these more of those? Are these in place of those? Do they include the new digital effects?

Scott, these are indeed more of the original episodes broadcast in HD (where available) and with the updated SFX.
