Fact: Late night TV can keep you up late at night

That's the finding of a researcher in Japan. He also discovered that surfing the web late at night can have an effect on your sleep habits. BREAKING NEWS!

OK, I'm being a little sarcastic here, but it seems like such an obvious conclusion that I'm sure you and I thought this was true even before any study was released.

And it's not just television. The research also concluded that any media use, including the internet, can cause the same results (in fact, internet users were worse off than TV watchers). Oh sure, blame the media again. The funny part about the surveys (there were two) is that they were internet based. The respondents probably took the survey at 1 in the morning while eating Doritos. I think a few of the people said they couldn't get to sleep because they were up "taking some damn web survey."

I always find these "TV/the web causes such and such problems" stories interesting, because I wonder if people like me are included in the surveys. I mean, I watch TV and surf the web all day long, including after midnight, but it's my job.

If there's one thing that web addicts can take from the survey they might like it's this: even though late night TV watching and web surfing made people sleep less, the amount of sleep they missed didn't increase the more and more they watched TV/surfed the web. So if you're going to surf the web late at night, make sure you do it for a long time.
