(S04E10) "I like being E." - Turtle
Back to the season. This episode did what we like to call "advance the plot." Remember the plot? This show had one at one point, and as much as I've enjoyed the past few episodes exploring E's choices, I'm glad we finally got back to what the show is all about: Vince's career. Another cool factor? Eric had nothing to do with it this time around. As many folks predicted in last week's poll, right out of the gate E seemed to be focusing his energy on Anna and putting Vince on the back-burner. Doubt very much that'll last too long.
The biggest issue? Dana Gordon hates it and Vince loves it. Cue some vintage Ari wheelin' and dealin' and before long everyone is on board without E having any idea what's going on. It felt like the Entourage of old, seeing Ari in his prime like that.
So while all this was happening, E became the moderator between Anna and her tool of a boyfriend Dave. He calls everyone "dawg" and dresses like on of the Backstreet Boys circa 1999. Yeah... he's that guy. While it was amusing to see E deal with a client on a shoot what wasn't Vince, it still took away from the rest of the episode. It would have worked better had we simply known E was working with Anna and then not see him until the end of the episode. Having absolutely no idea what he was doing would have been far more stressful to Vince and us viewers.
Other thoughts...
- Nice turn from John Heard as Dana's new boss Richard Wimmer. Although, I'm not sure I find him as intimidating as Alan Grey over at WB.
- Drama finally said something about Five Towns! It still exists! Apparently, due to the show's large ensemble cast, he only needs to be on set two days a week. Does that sound normal or does he just have a far smaller part than we were led to believe?

I agree that it was great to see Ari wheeling and dealing, but I'm glad E wasn't left out of the episode. The stuff with Anna and her boyfriend was clearly leading to a continuation of the awkward romantic tension between E and Anna. (Notice the extra hug moments when he showed up at her shoot?) Plus, clearly they are setting up a moment where E will be pulled by his new client away from giving Vince the attention he desires.
As great as it is to see Vince evolving into an actor/producer who actually reads scripts now, his love for Walsh is irritating. My hope is that Eric is vindicated on Silo. As fun as it always is when the gang pulls victory from the jaws of deserved failure at all the crucial moments, I'm getting tired of Billy Walsh's winning streak. The guy is a tool. I would love to see Eric be the only one who hates the script, and for the movie to bomb, giving Vince a reason to trust E's opinion on scripts again. It's been E's defining characteristic that he knows what scripts Vince should take. I'd like to see that continue.
But mostly I just want Walsh to crash and burn.

I think the script sounded like a piece of crap and it was only Ari's magic that sold it. In fact, Wimmer was an idiot to buy the thing. The words "Post-Apocalypse" should have tipped him off. What was the last post-apocalypse movie that made money? 12 Monkeys?

As far as everything I've read, Eric is really supposed to be the focal point of the show, not the milquetoast Vince. Liked the episode but I've embraced this season fully, while the last one sucked donkey schlong.

Glad to see the plot return last night. At the same time...I'm saddened to think that there are only 2 more episodes until next summer! :( Maybe we'll get lucky with a Season 4.2 early next year.
There was definitely a lot of awkward tension between E and Anna. However...I don't tink that they'll end up together. Instead, I think Vince may become jealous because of the lack of E's attention on him and he'll sleep with Anna (or better yet actually date her)...thus forcing E to make a decision on Anna or Vince.
I didn't see any mention of the mess that is coming in their trip to Cannes next episode. I can't wait for next week as I'm sure we'll get a few classic lines from Ari berating Lloyd!

Ok, if I was a fan of the book Lost in the clouds, I would never, ever go see whatever the fuck Walsh wrote. C'mon, how far can you stray from the actual material??

You're missing the point. It's not that Walsh strayed from the material of "Lost in the Clouds." The issue is that he just went a wrote another script having nothing to do with the original material he was hired to adapt.

You know, I've become a little annoyed by the constant carping of "advancing the plot", "remember the plot" in the reviews as you dismiss any episode plot points that don't relate directly to Vince. You seem to be suffering from tunnel vision regarding the premise of the show. The show is called Entourage, not Hollywood Star's Career Path.

I agree with the other posters...Vince may be a catalyst for the hijinx but he's not the focal point of the show. I always thought it was about E--trying to make it in Hollywood with some dignity left intact. Even though he got to where he is based on his entourage status, he's trying to leverage that away from pure lamprey-ville.
And Vince? He's as feckless as he was day one...pretending that everytihng is "no worries" but underneath it all, a needy star.

@Jonathan,
Dang you are right. For some reason I spaced during the scene where Ari makes the pitch...I had to watch it again.

Hey, does anyone know the name or artist of the song that played towards the end of the episode. I forget now where the show was when the song played but it was about 8 mins to end and sorta hip-hop but with a reggae beat... need to know. Credits didn't show I don't think

Tim,
If you go to HBO's website and click on Entourage and find the latest episode and they will list all the songs by artist and aproxamately(sp?) where they appeared in the episode. Cheers!

Does anyone know when this season ends. It seems like this is the longest season of any show I have ever watched on HBO. About time they started making more than 8-10 shows! Entourage is one of the best...make it an hour!

re: Justin
This is actually season 3 & 4, back to back.
I wish HBO would really extend seasons past the normal 10 episodes or so. I would also like to see Entourage with a longer episode running time, love this show.
