Ryan Seacrest + Super Bowl = Is Nothing Sacred? When you think about the Super Bowl, does the name "Ryan Seacrest" come to mind? Probably not. I'm pretty sure I know more about football than Ryan Seacrest (which isn't saying a heck of a lot). Yet somehow, Fox has awarded Super Bowl hosting duties to their American Idol golden boy.
As master of ceremonies for football's biggest game, Ryan will host pregame red-carpet events, as well as the halftime show. Super Bowl XLII is set to take place in February at the University of Phoenix stadium in Arizona. And while halftime entertainment has not yet been announced, I'm starting to suspect that we might see a couple of American Idols perform.
Fox Sports Television Group chairmain David Hill stated: "The Super Bowl has grown to become a landmark holiday on the American calendar, attracting not only the sports world, but the biggest stars in music and entertainment. Naturally, we'd like our broadcast to reflect that growth, so we've expanded our pregame lineup beyond the realm of sports."
I have to ask: Do we really need a red-carpet at the Super Bowl? Should we expect to see celebutantes (fresh from rehab) making grand entrances at this sacred sporting event? Doesn't the Super Bowl have a large enough viewership already without trying to reel in non-football fans? And finally: how many dang hosting jobs does Ryan need before he officially wears out his welcome with American viewers?
Ryan said, "It's bigger than a game, and I am thrilled about joining the absolute best sports broadcast team in the world."
I'd personally love to hear what Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, and Jimmy Johnson think about Ryan Seacrest crashing their party.

Worst news of the past week. I just don't even want to hear the commentary that his twit has to say. Let's not forget the typical fox, all to obvious cliff hanger:
It's the final seconds of the game. The score is tied and (insert team here) has the ball. It's 4th and goal. They set up for a touchdown. The ball lets go, QB drops back for the pass the ball is mid air headed for the reciever ******SCREEECH****
Secrest: AAAaaaannndddd the results of the Super Bowl after a quick word from the spnsors....

Eric,
Luckily, Ryan will not be doing any play-by-play during the game. But still, his mere presence at the event is sure to annoy diehard football fans.

Well I guess I wont watch the halftime entertainment then or the pre-show during the next Superbowl. Makes you wonder who'll do it in the future, Star Jones? Come on its still sports entertainment, we're not looking for a red carpet we're looking for some friggin football! Hire someone who has some history with the game.

I'm not sure I understand why everyone is so negative so far. The Super Bowl is the premier TV entertainment event of the year. It's only nominally a sporting event, since the largest TV audience of the year tunes in mostly for the commercials and the entertainment portions.
Why shouldn't Ryan Seacrest host this, as the host of the highest rated TV series?

Real football fans know the biggest games of the year are played two weeks before the Super Bowl: The NFC and AFC Championships.

Die-Hard football fans have been complaining about the celebrities for so long. I can't wait to hear what they'll think of the whole "red carpet" angle. Are they seriously gonna have a red carpet to the stadium. Amidst all the tail gateing and pork ribs... there's gonna be Versace perfume and Ryan Seacrest going... "who are you wearing?"

I don't understand how Ryan continues to get more work. In a town that is constantly looking for new talent, why do they always fall back on this guy? If Idol were to ever have him replaced, he'd immediately fall off the map.
