Although it seems like John from Cincinnati is dead, another HBO summer season show lives on. Variety reports that Home Box Office has picked up a second season of the musical comedy Flight of the Conchords. The quirky hit is popular among young viewers, an elusive demographic for the premium cable channel. In addition to Conchords, HBO has given the thumbs-up to a fifth season of Entourage.
The news is no big surprise, The two comedies have cult followings and help diversify the drama-heavy schedule normal to HBO. If there are any shows that made me wish I was rich enough to afford premium cable, it would be these two -- and Weeds, of course.
If you haven't seen/heard of Flight of the Conchords yet, it is more than worth checking out. The show follows real life New Zealand musical-comedy act Flight of the Conchords, Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Jemaine Clement, as fictionalized versions of themselves. Hilarity and mini music videos ensue as the "starving artists" deal with breaking big and a wonderfully inept agent.
An in-show music video to give you a taste:

Flight of the Conchords is probably the funniest show on television right now. It may be a little quirky for mainstream, but it is definately worth checking out.
TV Squad should definately write more articles concerning the show.

Good news, everyone! Conchords is one of my favorite new shows this year, so that's a very nice surprise.
Entourage, the best show on HBO, and maybe even cable, was renewed? In other news, the sky is blue.

For everyone who is a Conchords fan - check out Peep Show, a weird and quirky UK comedy. FOTC's non-musical portions are pretty much a clone of Peep Show. Not knocking FOTC, just saying, if you like the vibe, you will love Peep Show.
