What to expect in season 14 of ER

What will happen to the cast of ER in season 14?Yeah, you read it right. This will be season 14 of NBC's ER, and probably its last. There were rumors that the show would be renewed for another two years, but they never came to fruition.

Last season brought a number of changes to the Emergency Room over at County General. We were introduced to John Stamos as Tony Gates and Busy Philips as Hope Bobeck and said good-bye to Laura Innes as she left the series and her role as Kerry Weaver. By the end of the season we saw Luka Kovac leave his role as ER chief to be replaced by the more intense Dr. Kevin Moretti (played by Stanley Tucci), Ray Barnett lose both legs to a car accident, and Neela (our favorite object of attention) being trampled upon during a peace rally gone bad

Want to know what will happen to your favorite docs during the (supposed) last season of ER? Well, you can find out after the jump. Oh, by the way . . . .SPOILER WARNING!!!! You have been duly alerted.

  • Dr. Greg Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) will be leaving the show sometime this season. Before he does though, he will delve deeper into his personal issues. This includes getting in touch with his father (Danny Glover) once again and discussing his relationship with Betina.
  • We'll be seeing less of Luka Kovac (Goran Visnjic) this season as he has decided to leave the show. It looks like he may be in about a half-dozen episodes. Also reported to be leaving is Maura Tierney (Abby Lockhart). However, as she said she was leaving at the end of this season, and this may be the last season of ER, her departure may not occur.
  • Stanley Tucci will remain on ER as Dr. Moretti. He will be featured in the second episode on a case that Abby is involved in.
  • Shane West will return to the show as Ray Barnett, but not as a regular cast member.
  • In the first episode of the new season we'll be introduced to a new intern, Paul Grady. He's a 26-year-old who seems to be calm, naturally positive and open. Not like Tony Gates at all! Also being introduced this year are a 19-year-old Doogie-esque intern, an older female doctor, and Neela's cousin, who tends to be a bit rambunctious.
  • Speaking about Neela, she definitely ends up hurt after being trampled by peace demonstrators. She will spend almost the entire first episode of the season in surgery under Dubenko's care. However, his feelings for Neela will cause him issues and he'll need to have someone else take over. Neela will be discharged by the second episode and may end up staying at Abby's.
  • Still more about Neela! It looks like the romantic relationship between her and Tony is done (thank god, because I just wasn't feeling it). In fact, the show is introducing a new love interest for Gates -- a female hospital chaplain.
  • In other relationship news, the one between Hope and Archie Morris (my favorite ER doctor) may be short-lived. In the second episode of the season Hope will ask Morris to go to the tropics with her for an extended period of time. However, Morris will decline the offer.
