In addition to the recent renewals and new episode orders for TNT's Saving Grace and The Closer, the USA Network has ordered up thirteen new episodes of Burn Notice.
Burn Notice is great summer fare: a series that doesn't exactly break new ground but is still fun to watch. USA's motivation in picking new shows has been to focus on strong characters, and that's exactly what keeps Burn Notice from being just another crime/detective/mystery series (even though it is just another crime/detective/mystery series). It's also what keeps me tuning into Monk after all these years, even though every episode is pretty much the same. The lead players, Jeffrey Donovan, Sharon Gless, Bruce Campbell and Gabrielle Anwar, work well within the sometimes cookie-cutter self-contained plots, elevating the series to something worth checking out each week. It's not the plots so much, it's the people.
What's going to help the show in the long run, I think, is for the overarching storyline of Michael trying to find who "burned" him to keep building with each episode. So far, they've done well with that, but it is a tough balancing act, and easy to lose viewers if they don't get some kind of satisfaction with each subsequent episode. They don't always need answers, just something to make them tune in the following week.

This is great news! "Burn Notice" is a very good show--fun like "Monk" or "Psych" are trying to be, but with MUCH smarter scripts. And a bigger cast of real professionals. It's not just a good series for summer; I'd watch it anytime. I'm glad to see USA is sticking with it. (Now if they'd only cut back on the INCREDIBLY annoying animated promos that run across the bottom of the screen!)

I forgot to mention that "Burn Notice" reminds me most of "The Rockford Files", which is a huge compliment to the writers, cast, directing, etc.

Awesome news, I love the show! So you are right with your concern about the plot. Thanks for covering the show so far, I hope you'll keep on to that. If you do just remember, the main character who is trying to find out who burned him is called Michael not Sam ;)

Decent show. Funny voice over. They need to shy away from him doing accents as he sucks. Also, somebody please get the scripts to be a bit edgier...he murdered people in the first episode but since he's been awfully sweet.

Sam Axe is Bruce Campbell's character. Michael Westen is Jeffrey Donovan's character, and he's the one that the Burn Notice was put out on.
Great news for the series. Seriously, though. Chad sucks and Bruce Campbell rules.

Good thing I warned you like 20 minutes ago and yahoo wouldn't allow me to log in and confirm my email! Without my delayed assistance, this whole establishment would crumble.

Has anybody read Fiona's character blog on the site? Ties into the show nicely.

This is a good show, not great (yet), but a good show. Something to do in the summer when nothing better is on. For me, what makes this show are Sharon Gless and Bruce Campbell; they are perfect cast in their roles. The commenter who described this series like to Rockford Files really hot the nail on the head. I just wish the show could be a little edgier, but that's a problem USA seems to suffer from; it's like they're scared to be edgy. It sure has been an utter failure for F/X, hasn't it? (Sarcasm, anyone?)

Wow, there is hope I will get to see this then. This to me was the first show where I said "looks cool, DVR the whole thing and then if we find out it is going to stay on the air THEN I will watch it."

What I love about Burn Notice is that it's not just another crime/detective/mystery show. It's a little different. Monk and Psych both solve crimes in cooperation with the police. Burn Notice's Michael doesn't. He's more of a mercenary gun-for-hire type guy. He's more like MacGyver, only again he has a darker side to him. Why was he burned? It obviously wasn't for being a good-guy secret agent. He's got a dark past, and doesn't always do things one would consider moral. He's a bad-ass, he shoots and stabs people, he sets up booby traps that will kill targets. Also, he's not solving murders every week. He's protecting people, doing search-and-rescue, etc. It's more varied.

Actually, it reminds me more of "The Equalizer" than some of the other shows mentioned.

Great news! I've really started digging Burn Notice, and I'm glad it got picked up. Like Mike (#13) said, the difference in BN from other crime shows is Michael's dark side. In the premiere episode he was in the middle of some sort of shady-appearing deal when the burn notice hit. He may be helping people out as he takes his odd jobs, but he's still out first to help himself, to find out who burned him and why. That seems to be what give the show its edge, and what keeps me coming back. Good stuff.

I like the show, glad to hear more eps are coming. I was watching it the other day I realized why I liked it.
It taps into the show's I watched as a child, A-team, MacGyver, Knight Rider, in that it has that theme of helping someone who can't help themselves... Makes for good TV I guess.

Okay, I really like the show and I'm glad that they have called for more eps. The one thing that bugs me and hopefully someone out there can help me is this: what the hell happened to Fiona's accent?? In the pilot, she sounded like someone's Irish granny with the IRA, gun-toting skills to boot. Now?? She kinda just sounds weird - it really annoys the heck out of me - any ideas, thoughts??

hey mimi -
fiona makes a reference to her lost accent in either the second or third episode - michael asks - hey where's your accent ? and she says something like well if i'm going to live in miami
i can't be sounding like a leprechaun - so i'm working on fitting in or something like that

So sorry to see this show coming to a close. It has been one of the more entertaining shows. Also, happy to see the brother has been removed - for awhile at least. His character was annoying and took away from the show - for me at least.
