Hot from this morning's Variety: NBC has purchased the rights to a new script by O.C. writer John Stephens. Warner Brothers TV will produce the show under a previous deal Stephens made with the peacock network. The premise of the show? What starts as a normal cop-show takes a "hilariously horrifying" twist when the not-so-super police officers have to face the likes of vampires, mummies and other supernatural ghouls -- return of werewolf man?
Sounds a little, just a little similar to a comedic version of Moonlight, CBS's problem-plagued vampire detective drama. Although the show isn't a direct ripoff -- it seems a little more Police Academy meets Buffy -- it seems mighty coincidental that NBC would snatch up this show after all the free press (albeit negative) that Moonlight has been getting.
I think this show may work if the writing is strong and avoids stale supernatural clichés for as long as possible. One major suggestion, bring in Matt Parkman from Heroes to star. I miss intra-network crossover episodes. Okay, I wasn't alive for most of that.

This sounds like Special Unit 2, a UPN(?) show that gets rerun sporadically on SciFi

How about this sounds like supernatural on the CW... while dean and sam might not be cops they sure act like cops sometimes. maybe one big differance will be in this show the cops wont know what there doing...

My first thought was Special Unit 2, also. Guess it's par for the course as NBC's new Chuck sounds like UPN's late Jake 2.0. I liked SU2 mostly for the cast, so I'll have to see who is in this one before I decide if I'm going to watch. As an avid Greg Grunberg fan, the idea of "spinning off"' Parkman is very appealing to me.
