When we posted TV Squad's list of 2007-08 network fall premiere dates there was a show that was conspicuously missing: Boston Legal. I wasn't too concerned since the show was renewed for a new season, and a slew of new faces are joining the law firm of Crane, Poole and Schmidt, and it garnered six Emmy nominations this year. I was just pissed because my list was incomplete. Hey, I'm anal that way.
Luckily, things have been all straightened out and we now have a premiere date. It will be Tuesday, September 25th, at 9:30 pm. Oh, and it will be a 90-minute premiere which, in television terms, means a 60-minute episode with more commercials.
The good thing here is, by starting at 9:30, Legal will have the power of its 90-minute Dancing With the Stars lead-in to boost its viewership. Hopefully, those viewers will remain with the show when it settles into its normal 10 pm slot the week after.
Why the delay in announcing the premiere? Blame it on producer/creator David E. Kelly and his peoples. They felt that starting the season with a 90-minute episode was not a good idea. Fortunately, their arms were twisted enough by corporate bigwigs they made a sane decision to go ahead with the extended premiere.
